My L. Parahybana came to me from a store that dealt with a shady breeder. She was sold to them as a B. Hamorii sling. I only found out that she wasn't one after her 3rd molt when her colors started to show a bit. They're gorgeous Ts and I love mine, but apparently this happens a lot because they're so cheap, and often it's the store that you buy it from that doesn't know any better just as you don't. Be careful and don't get scammed!

Nice list; I have three of the species you mentioned. I received my _Acanthoscurria geniculata_ as a freebie sling in January 2017, and he is among my favorites. He is normally not too inclined to kick hairs, but he did kick up a storm when I upgraded him to his adult enclosure, and sometimes -- especially when he was in his juvenile enclosure -- he would kick hairs when I retrieved the water dish for cleaning. I bought my _Psalmopoeus cambridgei_ as a 2.25" juvenile in May 2017 for $35 shipped; she is a big goofball who has been known to run toward any crinkling noises (like opening Twix bars) near her enclosure. Finally, I picked up a 2" juvenile _Aphonopelma chalcodes_ for $30 at a show in February. I had been eyeing them for a while, because I love how soft they look. It hasn't molted in my care yet, so I don't know the sex.

That’s really neat about the Psalmotoxin. I work in the ER, and sometimes hear neurologists talking about the pH in the brain being low after the stroke happens (the ischemic strokes cause the blood in the brain to become acidotic). To my knowledge, the Psalmotoxin helps mimic the production of calcium, so the pH raises and helps the brain survive by not becoming too acidic and causing the cells to break down. Really neat to see Tarantula venom used in the real world. Now my coworkers can stop giving me shit for owning Ts ha. This is all super condensed, and far from a good description, but it’s what I understand to my knowledge. Thanks Richard! As a bonus, Psalmotoxins are used to treat the same type of brain tumor my mom has, so she can’t hate on my little guys anymore!

My daughter's "first" tarantulas were a T. Albopilosum and a T. Vagans. (Obviously I always make sure that she and the Ts are safe). Yes they are a "common species" but they inspired her to study T's and promote them (the amount of teens we had around to see them is unreal). LPs are also a hit.

Ok you put the Cyricosmus Dwarf on my radar, I probably will scoop one next time I see it. I love my GBB, so a dwarf species with a similar nature sounds awesome. I'd stopped getting Ts because I didn't want to have to worry about any more large enclosure space. I'm not afraid to raise small slings. I have several of the Ts on this list and they are great! Curly Hair and Arizona Blonde are always solid choices. I got a Trinidad Chevron freebie when I got a Purple Pink Toe, they were actually better about their first rehousing than the PPT. However, I just upgraded them again and they decided to make a sudden leap! I saw a brown spider splay-legged gliding towards the floor! I was so fortunate they decided to go in one of my empty spider cups I had nearby, so I put on a lid and got them back. I had made preparations, but it wasn't enough! I do see them out more than my PPT, and they are starting to get their adult colors. I know they're hungry when I see their legs out of their burrow. I was told their care was similar to Avics, but mine has made little web tunnels and burrows covered with dirt that fill up the whole sling enclosure so far which has been really interesting. Kinda surprised Pink Toe wasn't on there?

I bought mine at a reptile fair in the Netherlands. I got my 2 year old Tliltocatl Albopilosus girl Fluffy for €20,- My 2,5 year old girl Neoholothele Incei Tiggy was €15,- My 2 year old Grammostola Pulchra girl was €100,- They're all doing great and these videos and those of Tarantula Kat, Clint's Reptiles and others are a great help!! I really want one of each species but I made a deal with myself: I can have nine Tarantulas in my house maximum. I won't buy any new T's when I turn 65. That way I'll be sure to always take good care of my cute lil' horror-hamsters. They are living animals as you say, and I don't want to treat them as a collection. I also don't have the time or room for that anyway!

The US Aphonopelma species are hard to come by in Europe. Had to look for a pretty long time until I got a good chalcodes offer. Seemanni are reasonably cheap to get though.

Hello. I am new to keeping tarantulas and I was attempting to feed my T a cricket but it just seemed to back away from it acting like the T was scared of the cricket. It has been around 10 days since it last ate and I would really appreciate some advice.

Probably premolt. When they aren't hungry they act like the food disgusts them.

Next on my list is an LP. I hate to add the cost of shipping and the only local ones are around 45. Grrrr.

Mexcan red knee brachypelma smithi or hamorii you can get slings cheap or free and one of my favorite Ts mine stay out in the open all the time

I think number one are Pinktoes, Avic Avic. See some for less than 20, and have seen slings for 7.99 before. I would say Stromatopelma calceatum is around the same prices generally as H maculata. And they look so similar at first glance, like the Nhandu, and A geniculata. I think it is odd that some really not for beginner species are often less expensive. 1. Cyriopagopus lividum or the hati hati's 2. Chilobrachys in general. Many under 50 bucks. 3. Lots of Psalmopoeus. They are NW, but are so fast and venom that is atypical for NW.

In general, South Africa is really cheap regarding T prices. Curly Hair you can order for less than 1 Dollar, Chaco Golden, about 1 Dollar, B hamorii about 3 dollars, purchased am Sun Tigger sub female for about 15 Dollars. The hobby isn't very big but we lack awesome special species, Jumping Spiders and so on.

Wow, $20 US for an OBT? Prices must have spiked, these were recently like 5 bucks a pop in Canada. Anyone looking at T. albopilosus, the Nicaraguan is only 5-10 dollars more and totally worth it imo. The difference in fluffyness and colour contrast is huge. Also, proposed addition to the list: Davus pentaloris. Super active T, eats well, easy to care for, gorgeous, grows pretty quickly. Checked my country's best dealer and it's 25 dollars Canadian solo or included in a 5 for 20 deal.
