Top 10 Card Games of 2024 - with Chris Yi

I genuinely think we are at saturation with trick taking games. I really enjoy them, but so few of them do anything as interesting as Wizard or The Crew (which pushed the genre forward by being cooperative). Chu Han, though, is fascinating to me as I mostly play two player and it is genuinely innovative (unsurprisingly, as Lehmann is right up there with Knizia as a design genius). I would advise anyone curious about this genre, though, to pick up Tichu, Wizard, and the Crew, then decide a few months later how many you really need. I would love to own all of them and play them all the time, but it's just not realistic and these games often get deeper and more satisfying with more plays (unlike hobby boardgames which are often most fun the first couple plays).

It’s got to the point now where if someone tells me something is a trick taking game, I immediately lose interest and stop listening. It’s the latest fad (was roll and writes, then nature games) and it’s gotten old.

Wish I could thumbs this up more, love this genre! Wish Chris and Mike did a card games podcast. Six of VIII and Rainbow are my go to games for introducing to friends and family. Have you played Petir from Leo (Vivo) this year? Haven’t tabled it yet.

Star Wars Unlimited is the bees knees! Best CCG I’ve played on a very long time. I’m extremely excited about this game… great pick, great list!

We have loved Trio. Maybe it was released last year. Very simple, but our entire family can play. Hope rainbow comes in stock!

I got my copy from Philibert - you might find it listed as Fischen, but it should be in German and English

I really think you should give Altered a try or new try. The review that came up didn't give a chance and stayed on a very surface level.
