sorry but I feel no sympathy for celebs that Go broke. I mean you made the millions, and chose to blow it on stupid shit. regular citizens are working 9-5 with shit pay, and still manage to support themselves. if celebs can't even live off the millions they make and can't even spend their money wisely, then why should we feel sorry for them? lol

As a native American, nearing retirement and spending the last 36 years working in various Law Enforcement Jobs (Parole/Probation/Federal Security, Investigator), I've noted ONE THING that we mostly take for granted. Americans think the solution for almost all things is to put people in JAIL or PRISON. Drugs? Prison. Tax Problems? Prison. Can't get along with ex-girlfriends or boyfriends? Jail. Putting ANYBODY in prison for 2-3 years usually serves NO practical purpose. We think that the "threat of imprisonment" will make people behave. WRONG! Human behavior can't be changed very much by any outside threats or fear. Drug addicts don't clean up because they are "scared", they quit when they are damn good and ready. Putting a Star Athlete or Actor in Jail just assures that they can't earn the money that the Government is demanding. We are just plain ignorant of human nature and have a Police State to prove it...

This is both taking the moral high-ground and being an awful snob but it's worth bearing in mind that a lot of celebrities are poorly educated, come from rough backgrounds and to put it bluntly have never worked a proper day in their life. They can be ruined by their own naivety, their scummy friends that followed them from the gutter and just plain lacking the concept of value.
@LaCrownedGamer

true, when you come into money like that, if you do not know about how to invest money and do what you have to do (taxes and such) then educate yourself before you become broke, its not hard, invest in learning about YOUR money. I do feel sorry about Gary Coleman, since he was a child actor, the money went to his parents, who spend majority of his fortune on themselves, instead of getting him what he needed for his kidneys, sad really :(

What about Ginger Baker? Cream's drummer eventually had to make a instructional video and tour with a band that opened for grunge bands in the 90's! He squandered his cut of the lucrative Cream reunion show on a farm and horses which he eventually had to sell anyway. Surely he is worth at least an honorable mention.

He was a child who got ripped off by his parents. Money wasn't his responsibility at his age, as he probably thought his parents would have his best interests at heart. Also, it is ironic that the very thing he was most known for, (being short, and looking like a child, which got him the role in "Diff'rent Strokes") is also the thing that bankrupted him, and made his life a nightmare.

Iverson didn't go bankrupt, he went through depression. During that depression he leaned onto alcohol as a crutch, and during that time he dropped everything that he had around him, like a lot of people going through depression. Paying bills and giving out money isn't important when you're going through that bad of depression. Im sure we can all understand that.

It would have been nice to include some historical celebrities that went riches to rags like Mozart or Alexander Dumas. They included all the black celebrities that went broke in the 1990s but not the first black celebrity ever to get really rich...then lose everything. Dumas was a trend setter in many ways, not just in the art of the novel.

Rachmad Suhartono sort of. lots of people know who he is our at least know *OF* him. wolf on wall street was a pretty big movie. If a movie about your life, has nothing but big name actors in it, grossed over a $100 million dollars, has great critic reviews and just plain *Kicked Ass*, gets made, you've reached celebrity status. Granted, they could have easily used someone else with more notoriety. But then again, mention the title of this movie to your friends and family and i bet the majority of them know what your talking about our at least read about him in the papers or saw him on the news.

True, I mean some of the most well known business magnates / entrepreneurs like : Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates , Disney co-founder Walt Disney , Ford founder Henry Ford , or even the current President of the United States & CEO / chairman of the Trump Tower Donald Trump are more known names in business world than Jordan Belfort BUT none of those above listed well known names could've cracked the director's idea for a biographical film like that of Belfort's name & his life story serving as the main inspiration for The Wolf of Wall Street, a 2013 film !!!! It doesn't make Gates, Disney, Ford, or even Trump less famous but it's that Belfort's lifestyle & his image was more interesting in the mind of director Martin Scorsese to convince actor Leonardo DiCaprio for starring in the biopic !!!!! Morover Bill Gates, Walt Disney, Henry Ford or even Donald Trump don't want biopic to make them famous as their billion dollar wealth speaks volume for their status as a public figure !!!!!

Its very sad that these popular iconic well liked celebrities made so much money and fell from grace anyway I heard once that when your making a lot of money its great to take the time to enjoy what you've earned because you worked hard for that money and these celebrities some I admired and followed their careers didn't do what I thought they would do which is keep an eye on your finances if I were them I'd would have done that remember your Make so such money your not worrying about it but if your not keeping an eye on your money the ones taking care of your finances will get greedy first by taking a little then as time goes by they see your not watching they'll take more or these celebrities make poor business choices too and more importantly not paying your taxes which always catches up to you in the end some celebrities think they're untouchable but against the I.R.S no one is untouchable and everyone with a lot of money should always pay they're taxes I know I would the I.R.S is known for letting you think they're not going to do anything they wait untill you owe more money or what you owe builds up then they come after you when that happens usually that person being investigated by the I R.S is 99% of the time not ready for not paying their taxes everyone pays there are no exceptions no matter who you are celebrit or a regular person it doesn't matter

Those of you saying these people don't deserve sympathy because they're celebrities, I disagree because everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect. Unless you earn millions of dollars and spend it responsibly, you're in no position to be pointing fingers. Its easy to judge these people and say they're "idiots". Now I'm not saying they're justified in their poor spending habits. But at the same time if you're given large sums of money, the temptation to over indulge is very real and a lot of people unfortunately slip and go broke. I can't speak for everyone but generally, people will choose to overspend if they have the opportunity, especially people with tons of money they've never seen before. So its not fair to demonize these people for that because everyone makes stupid choices with money at some point in their lives. These celebs are still people at the end of the day. So bottom line, make sure your own hands are clean before you point at someone else's flaws.

Well celebrities don't need all that money anyway, they tried to take the easy way out of life, with their talents, made it then screwed it up with various means. I can see why some laugh. But those who say they don't deserve sympathy, it is kind of true I hate to say... Most of the people on this list would look at us normal people and see us as scum not worth their time. Most only act nice to lower people because they know they may be watched. If they feel safe, true colors fly out. Won't say all celebrities because I know full well some are actually nice. I don't know much about this list (not a fan of them so don't bother to keep up) but I will just say as a whole group maybe about 30 or 50% celebrities don't deserve sympathy if they go broke. I don't disagree with your post Vector but I'm just saying not all celebrities are good and need our sympathy. I only post this because yeah what you say is good but you have to think would some of them consider us people? I agree with your post because reading these comments it doesn't look like those people think that way. XD

I will point out that MC Hammer going broke was not all due to his bad spending habits. He also was known as a very giving person and there where people coming out of the wood work that would take advantage of him. There where accounts of people asking him for huge sums of money and he would just give it without question. Most of the time people would feed him some sob story about them or a family member being sick or having cancer and then they would insist they needed large sums of money. Them He would feel sorry for them and give away large sums of money. He also spent alot of money on his family and his so called, "friends". So essentially his kindness ended up getting him in trouble as well as his bad spending.

They glossed over MC Hammer. His biggest expense was the 30 million dollar home he had custom build in Beverly Hills. He bought it BEFORE paying taxes or his agent. After the IRS took their cut and all his employees, he had to sell the house at a gigantic loss. To this day I think he's still in debt for millions.

+shortylickens69 Yes, I heard he had to spend 4 mil a year to just keep his multi colored fountains running at the mansion. That's sort of a red flag on spending priorities. If he just put half that money away in an IRA for 20 years he would be all set for the rest of his life now.
