@ashanirpaneer6 жыл бұрын
So why is Armor King not Top Tier? He seems to have almost every damn tool you need to succeed in a game of Tekken. Basically has the best features of King combined with some of the best staple moves of other characters. I find it pretty insane.
@joshjones97496 жыл бұрын
I'd agree even after this short time we've had him, I'd already put him way up there. He's handpicked the best King's got but with more of a compact feel. He has a handful tools so good you don't even have to think of which ones to use. Combine that with lightning fast punishment and fat combo damage and he's a big problem.
@swanscream51526 жыл бұрын
+Josh Jones In handpicking the best King has, he missed all the tracking, King's superior DF2 and DF1, and other stuff like King's better chainthrows, better Shining Wizard and, as far as I've heard, vastly better oki in general. AK is so hugely linear that a cancelled SSR blocks both homing moves but evades just about everything else bar -12 DF2 and poke lows. You can't play such a linear character thoughtlessly unless your opponent has bad movement, IMO; it's like playing Lili.
@joshjones97496 жыл бұрын
@@swanscream5152 King is still the better character in my opinion...but I agree with AK's linearity...its never presented a huge problem for me personally but then again I don't make a habit of just throwing alot of moves out there.

+Nicholas Crawford Huh. I think you're right, though I actually like his plus frame moves at first glance; the way F4 pulls them in & prevents people backdashing away, but I guess that'd matter a lot less to me if I fought more people who would SS these moves & launch me for trying them. What do you think of A.K's wall game? I feel I don't know enough about it, although I'd guess DB1+2 is better there since the pushback wouldn't prevent further pressure and it's basically a plus mid launcher.

Nina is incredibly easy to side step, and if you stay at mid-range, half her game falls apart, and forces her to use her own mid to long range moves which are not great at all. I really enjoyed this...and I HATE to be this guy...but isn't what Speedkicks said at 43:53 to about 44:10 the exact same concept that Mainman was trying to convey? I'm sorry if it isn't, but that's how I took what MM was saying. Are there options to beat these characters? Absolutely...but the work it takes for you to beat these types of character mechanics are much more complicated than the work it takes for the person to execute those mechanics.
@kylefields39516 жыл бұрын
It is the exact same concept, it was the MainMan's phrasing which probably got a rile out of Speedkicks. Good catch.
@LinDUNguin6 жыл бұрын
I like the point you're making here! However, I think what MainMan and Speedkicks argue are fundamentally different. When MainMan talks about imbalance, it's the work required into knowing how to deal with a certain character's gimmicks. Often times, those gimmicks have direct answers & once you know them are easy enough to implement in fighting said gimmick. This argument is that Tekken is imbalanced at lower levels because there exist characters in Tekken that are difficult to deal with UNTIL you know the answers. Conversely, Speedkicks is saying characters like Alisa & Asuka have tools that are so good at controlling the pace of the match, that you are forced to play their game regardless of whether you know how to deal with these tools. That's just how I take it anyways :)
@xbm79316 жыл бұрын
@@LinDUNguin Hmm I like that! At lower levels, lies your snake edger whether it be Lili, Bryan , or Law. A low level Mishima player doesn't have to tools (or knowledge) to crouch cancel electric those (or Twin piston if you play Kazuya for 0 risk high reward) But at higher ranks, Alisa truly does control the pace of the fight without really having to think about what the opponent is doing. I play Hwoarang, where 90% of my moveset requires me to be in the risky situation of not being able to block, so I must always be mindful of the opponents reactions and when I should pull back. (I'm just rambling now)....but yeah I like your interpretation of their minor disagreement! Good decipher lol.
@SirSov3r3ign4 жыл бұрын
@@LinDUNguin I agree with what you said but I feel mainman had a degree of truthfulness in his statement. You can authentically feel the fundamental difference between being pressured by nina or hwo compared to kazumi, lee, kazuya etc. There is an imbalance in complexity/book learning between the aforementioned characters that the defender must partake in and then condense that knowledge into something actionable. How much effort exerted for this to succeed fluctuates depending on who you defend against. Theres also the factor of who YOU main. If you play kaz and have to deal with playing someone like eddy, you can feel the disparity in knowledge checking(eddy having more stances and obtuse hurtbox interactions that require further labbing) between you and the eddy player. kaz being far more simple and less tricky to deal with even tho his vortex is lethal. Most of the playerbase just play online where they don't even get to decide what matchups to consistently test so learning can feel frustrating due to how little power you have. Arslan ash and his friends have the best work ethic. Just hang out together physically and learn different characters for hours offline. A true conducive environment for learning. mainmanswe realised this in a vid a while back, mentioning the following - "you cant play ranked and master this game, theres too much to learn". I wouldn't put it exactly like this but I understand what he means.

@eutimiolongoria46966 жыл бұрын
You can just stand block against King all day. React to his slower lows (which don't even offer that much reward) and launch punish him and just take the minimal damage/ + frame on his faster ones. Kings will use throw mixups to scare you into ducking which then opens up his gameplan (hopkick, Atlas Hammer, etc) but if you can consistently break throws he's forced to wittle you down with poking, which other characters can do better. King's great, don't get me wrong, but I agree with him not being top 10
@swanscream51526 жыл бұрын
+Eutimio Longoria But his chainthrows cannot be broken on reaction; both CD chainthrows have identical animations, and I'm not convinced dash GS / iSW is reaction breakable. Also, hopkick & Atlas Hammer? Good Kings are going to be using safe moves like F3 for mids.
@eutimiolongoria46966 жыл бұрын
@@swanscream5152 Even if you get caught in one of his chain grabs you can break in the middle of it. Not guaranteed damage. So what if King uses safe mids? Safe mids typically = low reward. Block one of his safe mids, he's suddenly minus and loses momentum and it's your turn again. So he has to rely on lows to open you up. But they're shitty. King does not have a hell sweep and the only low that launches can be blocked on reaction. Literally no reason to duck against King. iSW and GS are definitely reactable. Hard sure but not impossible. Again good character but not top 10
@swanscream51526 жыл бұрын
+Eutimio Longoria Yes, you can pass a 30/30/30 or 50/50 to avoid further damage in a chainthrow. But you can pass any mixup. Mixups that vastly favour the attacker & can end in an RDC remain a tool to open people. Think of each tick of the chainthrow as a low/mid mixup; when King is doing 30+ damage per right guess after the initial 20 damage, & it escalates to even higher damage, that's better than many low/mid mixups in the game. Landing the initial chainthrow is less favourable, but still good, since King's mids include an i15 38 damage safe KND with great oki, a -10 mid launcher and multiple slow, safe mid launchers, with great punishment & CH tools to back it up. If there was no reason to duck, pro players wouldn't duck vs him.
