This is a very good list. I like the rank of the pit lords demon farming. If you can land a hero with diplomacy and some collatoral damage spells like fireball....in an XL map you can build a serious army of demons. Another sweat skill is vampire lords with counterstrike. I encountered this once...and vampires backed with liches were so nasty at taking down garrisons of massive walled up armies

Black Dragon's ability is the strongest in my opinion. If you have enough of them, enemy will not be able to defeat them physically, and of course they can't use magic.

3:00 is wrong, it doesn't reduce the targets defence, it simply ignores it for 80%.

it's even more wrong than that. it says "with every attack and retaliation, the Ancient Behemoth will decrease the target's defense by 80%". that would mean that with every hit, the opponent's defence would go down. so if you start with 100 def, after getting attacked by AB you go down to 20, and after you attack them and they retaliate, you are left with 4. that would be seriously OP

Mighty Gorgons are no 1 hands down. Vampire Lords can be number 2. Ghosties aging is useful on huge custom maps made to be crazy like Wayfarer, where you have to deal with literally thousands of level 7 or even tougher creatures. Aging 2000 Titans can be vital and even one Ghost Dragon is capable to do so. It is no big deal when the enemy stack is smaller. Interesting to see how HotA changed this, with Phoenix having only 10 percent rebirth, Archdevils rocking a nice -2 luck etc. Do an update... even though that is an unofficial expansion.

before the video started I guessed in my mind that aging and death stare would be #1 and #2 (not necessarily in that order). I was pretty close, although... I don't think you can create rankings of creature's specials because most of them are very situational. For example, death stare doesn't work on undead and elementals, while lifesteal only works on living units. Given these limitations hydra and magic elemental's multiple attack + no enemy retaliation combo makes these specials much better overall because they work in 100% of the cases. Anyway, glad you took the time to make the video. I had something to watch while I was eating :)

agree with you Mathieu. Rampart and Fortress are my favorite towns, and I love those dendroids so much. People don't like them cause they're slow, but I used to play Kyrre a lot so I wasn't inconvenienced by the dendroid's slow speed too much, especially considering how sturdy they are and how many of them grow per week (8 if I remember correctly). Just haste or teleport them near the enemy's strongest creature and it's pretty much game over :p

I personally love marksman/grand elves double shot, sharpshooters (though I don't like their anachronous bows), and titans (lvl. 7 ranged is hard to beat). I basically prefer to shoot/magic things down.

We might mention serpent flies, very fast creatures, dispell all positive buffs on enemy plus weakens opponent. Covering wide area on battlefield too.

It's nice to see your preferences... I for example don't value the the Hydras and Magic Elemental that much since their abilities can be easily avoided with range units and careful unit placement, so I would put more value on the aoe effects of Magogs and Power Liches since they are ranged units and if you use haste/prayer/slow/high speed units, you will do major dmg before the opponent even moves. Enchanters are also very good but then again, they are neutral creatures... so unless you are in the campaign or you're playing with Diplomacy, building a stack of them from neutral dwellings is very inefficient, I would go for Master Genies since they can cast allot more spells even if it is on only 1 unit per round, they are much faster as units and also building a stack of them is far easier and more efficient. Pit Lords are great but their ability comes with a huge trade off so unless you are ok with loosing a ton of units every fight ... then you might as well put them on the same lvl as Zombies cuz even if they are very slow units, a high stack will make the Zombies a more effective tank. Ghost Dragons... what can I say even though it takes a bit longer, the Wyvern Monarchs ability has a higher chance, does the same thing, they are also allot cheaper and it's easier to build build a stack... and also if you plan to play using official competition rules, everything coming from either Conflux or Necropolis is out from the start. One last thing ... why did you totally ignore Wolf Raiders and Crusaders? That double attack makes their ability better than the Dread Knights ability.

Alexandru Harabagiu Magogs' ability is a double edge sword. It also affects friendly units, regardless of the fire immunity (Eefreeti) because their fireball attack is considered a melee one. Power liches on the other hand cannot harm friendly (undead) units so their death cloud is much better. And Zombies... Before they get to do anything it's very likely that the match is over because of their ridicolously low speed and thus, vulnerablity to ranged attacks.

@Aleksander Rejterada Since the tests are done on the HD mod the Magogs ability can be toggled between aoe and single target to avoid friendly fire, otherwise if we were to talk about the standard version of the game, then Hydras, Elementals and even the Cerber would cause friendly fire in cases where your units are close enough, as for the Zombies, I made the case that they would be more effective as tanks (therefor I would gladly have them take range dmg) and I did specify that they are very slow, but then again, the haste/prayer/slow... tactic I mentioned for the Magogs and Power Liches, mitigates the Zombie's disadvantage also. All in all it's nice to see that even after so many years, the community still has different preferences when it comes to units and tactics.

Aging is my favorite creature ability, but it has very, very low proc. My second favorite might be Scorpicore's paralyze, you can quickly disable units with it, has a very good proc chance and Scorpicores are fast and fly. Third place I give to Behemoths.. what monsters! Of course Vampire's leech is easily the best, it's borderline OP, especially coupled with no retaliation, which is also an excellent ability and helps even more with sustaining their numbers

Well it also can be turned into your damnation if you overestimate yourself, or your opponent has an unexpected strategy, like Immune Armageddon, Destroy Undead / Death Ripple, early Implosion, early Ressurection, Berserk w/o your Expert Dispel, Blind when you have no Dispel, Expert Forgetfulness while you have mostly ranged units, anti-magic / Black Dragons / Psychos / Orb of Inhibition when you're mage, Orb of Vulnerability when you have Black Dragons vs mage, etc etc etc. Even Ghost Dragons and Wyvern Monarchs can cause trouble to your thicc stack, or Mighty Gorgons / Ancient Behemoths vs your beloved lvl 7 units. Sometimes Teleport freaks the hell out.

Aging is crazily overrated here (low chance), it should barely make this list, if at all. I'd personally put Death Stare on no. 1 with VL on no. 2. The rest is pretty much correct even though I'd definitely include Crusader's double attack.

Aging has low chance of happening for good reason. Imagine the dragons aging half of the creatures in 2 turns. If you don't have mass cure / dispel your army is fucked. Like, REALLY fucked. If Aging had even 5-10% higher chance of happening Necropolis would be even more overpowered than it already is, given their many strengths (necromancy, unaffected by morale, 2 tier 7 creatures - yep, I count the DKs as tier 7 - or the non-dying Vampire Lords). Necro would have too many strengths if aging occurred more frequently

Aging is a joke of an ability. Even when it works (only 20% chance) IT CAN BE CURED AND DISPELLED. I wouldn’t even mention it here. Hydras ability is better than Elementals, because Hydra is a 2 hex creature. It can reach more enemy stacks. Cool idea for a video, but the ranking itself needs more research.

Archangel Resurect ability is number 1 ability in the game. Ofcourse it is context based, as behes ability can be the top or the Vampire Lords.

Best abilities are those who always work. Aging is very unreliable, not worth mentioning. Vampire regen is good, as long as you don't get overrun, at which point your vampires will die fast, also it doesn't work against undead or creatures without blood, Skeletons destroy Vampires. Gorgon stare is awesome and works fairly constantly if you have 30 or more of them, then 10% of their number almost always die (3 in this case). This is only effective against high tier creatures, killing 3 goblins or even 3 orcs won't make any difference. However, the best ability is the Behemoth's defense reduction, that makes it able to kill ANY creature, very fast. The only reason it works so well is thanks to the Barbarian Offense skill and very high attack, but it works flawlessly. Azure dragons are utter shit vs Behemoths, and no luck involved here. Unlike Gorgon's stare, the Behemoth destroys ALL creatures, whether low tier or high tier. As a side note, 10 A. Behemoths vs 30 Mighty Gorgons. This is how it's played out. Beh. waits, and strikes at the end of turn (thanks to superior speed), killing at least 10 Gorgons with first hit, Gorgons retaliate and are unlikely to kill 1 Behemoth with damage, however they will kill 2 Behemoths with the stare. Next turn begins, the 8 Behemoths strike again, killing at least 8 more Gorgons. At this point, the Gorgons won't be able to kill more than 1 Behemoth per shot, and it's game over, the Behemoths win. It's even worse when a Barbarian is leading the Behemoths.

You gotta be kidding me that Mighty Gorgon stare is not at no.1 spot. This ability is so ridiculously overpowered that there's really no debate around it. Ability to kill any high level unit bypassing any amount of HP, resistances and defenses, combined with 100% chances if you have a stack of more then 10? That's just silly. Vampire Lords regeneration you can replicate with ressurection and other spells and abilities. It is also easily countered by spells, archers and generally all units that will deal more damage to vampires then they are gonna deal. And there's plenty of those units.

Rust Dragons acid breath is brutal. Built in disrupting ray and bonus damage, both high % success too. Worse than Ancient Behemoths ability if battle is dragged out too long

Actually, the best ability is the necromancer raise dead ability. I got a stack of 10,000+ skeletons. They totally destroy everything and keep growing bigger in number. When the number is big, it is very scary - it one shot most creatures in one hit.

@@szhzs6121 Ghost Dragons aging is good IF they live long enough to actually proc it. they're one of the weakest tier 7 units hp wise pretty much every single other tier 7 can drop a ghost dragon before aging procs seeing as its a 1 in 5 chance per attack to actually proc

life drain doesn't work on many units like golems, elementals, gargoyles, undead etc. so it's not op unless vampire lords had unlimited retaliations like royal griffins which you missed. my first would be death stare. there's nothing more frustrating than a level 5 mighty gorgon stack destroying your level 7 archangel stack. also mighty gorgons are the only one unit that has a chance to defeat azure dragons 1v1 without spells buffs etc. in base game without mods.
