My random fact is how I changed Disneyland in a relatively significant way. Dumbo the Flying Elephant specifically. When I was 3 or so, we were waiting in line. Being the little kid that I was, couldn't hold my attention at all. So I looked at some flowers behind the bars in the fence. Lo and behold, my head was soon stuck in the fence. It took longer than it should have to get me out since I was freaking out, but it didn't actually take all that long. The next time we went, the bars were far closer together, so that other stupid kids wouldn't try that again. That is one of my proudest achievements.

Casey Jr. is a must ride every trip due to some very specific childhood nostalgia. When I was about 12 years old my dad and I arrived at the park towards the evening on Christmas eve after a National Lampoon style roadtrip from hell. Everything in the park was packed, so I ended up marathoning Casey Jr. which was a walk on. I tell ya, the atmosphere on that ride at night really is something else. The canal boats are definitely the superior way to see the miniatures, but Casey Jr. gives you a really wonderful overview of Fantasyland and even has a fun little themed lifthill. The attraction is exactly what my mind goes to when I think of stuff Disneyland has that really sets it apart from the other parks.

Here’s a useless fact: in late 1981, I was chosen as part of a crew to do overnight monorail beam electrical testing on the Epcot line, and we literally were paid to pilot a train to a portion of the Future World loop that wasn’t even completed yet! They had electrical power to a certain point, made us drive a train to that point, sit there with power on, then kill power to the train, boot back up, kill it again…and so forth and so on. This went on literally ALL NIGHT LONG! We were told not to doze off, but honestly, it couldn’t be helped. I napped for at least 2 1/2 hours at one point with nobody contacting me to do ANYTHING! It had to be the most boring night of my Disney Monorail career, but it apparently was for good reason. I did that overnight testing for 3 days straight, then was put back into regular day shift rotation…but it WAS kinda fun, thinking back on it. The other fun aspect of those testing nights was getting to run a monorail at full speed on Epcot’s beam from the back cab in full reverse mode all the way back to TTC. That was pretty wild…good times for sure…

My least interesting Disney fact: much like Santa Clause and the old Coca-Cola ads, the modern image of leprechauns wasn’t cemented in most people’s minds until the Disney movie Darby O’Gill and the Little People. Therefore, the idea of a little green-clad man with a pot of gold that most people imagine when they think of leprechauns is _exactly_ as old as my mother!

Here's one nobody cares about: There's a cabinet behind Madame Leota in the séance room. It's a "Spirit Cabinet," a thing mediums used to produce ghosts in the old days. So much about the séance room is based on things that would actually happen in real-life séances. The circle the doombugies make around Leota, the floating objects, the musical instruments played, the rapping on tables and ringing bells, the orbs of light. The Imagineers made so many references to the conventions of ghost stories and spiritualism, it's a little shocking. They either did a butt-load of research or this stuff was more common knowledge back then.

One of my favorite obscure things is the hidden astronaut that was at the top of Spaceship Earth. That scene before the descent, where you're looking out at Earth from space, was initially supposed to be a view from the moon- if you've ever noticed those weird shapes in the dark along the floor, those are painted black moon rock props. There was also originally a small space pod above the track just before you start descending, with an astronaut figure looking down at the surface of the moon. I don't remember if it were actually implemented or if it was just in concept art, but I also remember there being a buggy. Early riders and the first few weeks of guests noted that the effect wasn't at all convincing, so the Imagineers did the cheapest and fastest solution they could and just went to Home Depot or sumn and got a ton of black paint to hide it all without actually moving it out of there. This includes painting over the space pod and the window on it, so for some indeterminate amount of time from a few weeks after closing, there was just this hidden animatronic figure hanging above and looking out over all the riders, which freaks the shit out of me. I didn't even like that easter egg in the Pooh ride where there was the mounted moose head behind the cars when you enter a room, recycled from the ride that was there before.
@Shag4712 жыл бұрын

If your eyes are adjusted enough you might notice a dark column on the right that extends to the ceiling. This is a black duvetyn curtain that hides a high reach machine used to get to the hatch. The interior hatch is offset to the right and then you crawl about 30’ to the putter hatch on the roof. Yes, I’ve been up there. No, it’s not cool or even that interesting.

In all my years as a Disney fan I have somehow never heard of the Mineral King ski resort! That's an amazing Easter egg in the refurbished Carousel of Progress! Edit: I just looked up some information on it. It looked really cool! They had actually done a lot of planning for it before it got cancelled. Then they were going to do another resort in Tahoe that they put even more work into but it got derailed by government bureaucracy. Kind of sad, although I can also see the environmentalist side of wanting to leave these areas undeveloped. It would still be cool to see Disney build more resorts not connected to their theme parks. Só let me get this straight. There was A LAMP in Walt’s apartment. When Walt was in the apartment, obviously it would be on and people would know. so while the story that the lamp was on to remind people may have no evidence, but does it not stand to reason that the workers glanced over and saw the lamp on and deduced Walt was in the park, and that just became a thing? I’m willing to bet that’s what happened and then years later someone was talking about the good ol days and how they’d look to the window to know if the boss was in and from there they said, that would be a good way to honor that memory. Most likely to reduce wear and tear, as it's initial animation was quite quick and snappy. And another one: It's Tough to be a Bug, while having identical shows at Disneyland (when it was open) and Disney World, The animation of Hopper actually differed between the two versions! So glad I know these random facts that have no effect on my life but can't remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday :)

Pirates (fun FACT) The pirates in certain scenes where there are many are actually scaled "down" to be "optically correct" If you view them up close, they look more exaggerated. The women on the turn tables chasing the pirates their cleavage actually bounces (this effect was designed by Alice Davis, Marc Davis wife) Disney staff + their kids were used in some of the "AA" figures. Harriet Burns "hands" were used to go on some of the ladies "AA" figures. Bonus Pirates. The one in Paris has a drop midway through the ride because the 1967 From Pirates to Disneyland (Wonderful of Disney show) showed the ride through & 2nd drop was actually put just before the Yo Ho singing pirates. They wanted the ride to "pace" that way. The "story" is also told 'backwards' in Paris.

I have two Disney Parks facts that nobody cares about. 1: Phantom Manor is the only version of the Haunted Mansion where you go in through the front door 2: if you stacked Cinderella Castle, Spaceship Earth, the Hollywood Tower Hotel and the Tree of Life on top of each other it would still be shorter than the Eiffel Tower
@SaltWaterLullaby2 жыл бұрын
Okay first off every single one of those facts was amazing and I was very here for it. A little confused as to why you focused on the "goblins" lie and not the "999" lie 🤣🤣 HOWEVER!!! I would be THRILLED to have a Madame Leota paperweight!!! I already have her portrait in my classroom (my students read rough drafts to her to see if they sound right lol) so I think a Leota paperweight on my desk would fit right in!

This is what I'm like at the parks as well. My sister and her family want to plan a Disney trip and I can imagine myself sharing all kinds of useless trivia with them as we wait in line (much of it probably gleaned from your videos). As for goblins in the Haunted Mansion, the gargoyles look kind of goblin-like - small, ugly humanoid creatures with pointy ears. Or if you consider gargoyles a separate type of creature, Madam Leota does call out to goblins in the seance room. They may be hiding in the shadows.

Disney actually has favorite high school marching bands, or at least favors some over others. When we played there last year we were backstage at the same time as another school, and we did our little parades back to back. They gave us both speeches and everything after we played it was honestly kind of surprising how highly they spoke about our band compared to the other? I still have no idea why they like us so much- our school is invited something like every 4-6 years and apparently someone usually gets sent home early for shoplifting, so maybe there’s money involved or something? Anyways that’s a useless fact for you

I was so thrown two weeks ago when I was on my honeymoon and went to WDW and saw all the new outfits in the last scene of the People Mover. The hair change gave it way but I kept second guessing if the outfits were different. Glad I was just that observant and it was actually changed

The goblins in Haunted Mansion are obviously locked behind one of the doors in the “endless hallway” so they won’t escape and steal the treasure from POC!!! 😎

Fun fact, in the 1990's (do not know if it is still there) there was a secret lounge in spaceship Earth that only Employees of AT&T and their families could access. It had special merchandise for sale that only they could purchase, and free sodas as well! This was due to AT&T being the sponsor of spaceship Earth

When I went to tour Walts apartment they made it pretty clear the current lamp was placed in honor of Walt and that's pretty much why it's the only thing you can take a pic with since it's not an original 😅 I can see where people got confused though since most don't take that tour! People should talk more about the staircase to his apartment! Now that's a boring topic 😴

@MonzterMichelle2 жыл бұрын
@@annaliesequartermaine1866 Haha, its more just an observation I made when we went up there since it was a pretty small work staircase that you might find at home depot or something and it just made me wonder how Walt and his family used it at the time or if it looked different back then. The shower is interesting though!

Isn’t the second half of Pirates supposed to be a look at the lives of the pirates before they all meet their demises? If so, then it would make sense that the Wicked Wench would be in its own pre-sunken and -rechristened state, I think.

I like this style of non-content. It's always fun seeing what makes people interested/annoyed on small relatively pointless scenes Speaking of while there is no goblin ON the ride, there is 1 "goblin" technically there, Azalea, originally just concept art unused, but officially she's a ghost explosives lover so when she's throwing ghost bombs everywhere. it can hurt other ghosts and cursed items(ie the doombuggy) she's the official reason the ride breaks down. ergo if you've ever been stopped on haunted a goblin done got u good! I'll give you she looks nothing like a goblin, she looks like a 40 year old 4 foot lady who needs a shower and has chicken legs.

I can honestly say that walking around and enjoying Disneyland with someone who would basically be giving me a personal tour of all the secrets and hidden facts would be the best Disneyland trip of my life. Seriously so awesome. Even if I already knew many of the facts, the fact that you are so excited about them as you’re telling me, would just make them fun to hear all over again.

Related to the Hidden Mickey you showed at the Mark Twain dock...it is the only full body Hidden Mickey I believe anywhere. Also, when the B of A was in operation it was noted as the only bank that was open on Sunday. Oh, and Casey Jr. was the first ride my son ever went on (at like 5 weeks old...yeah, we had a hard time waiting that long to bring him to Disneyland) so he makes up for you never having been on it.

My uncle has cerebral palsy, and when he was growing up, he had a service dog named Island. Somewhere in the early 80s, he and my mom's family went to Disney World, where Island was one of the first service dogs to enter the park. She served as a basis for how to accommodate visitors with disabilities.

I'm sure something in the Haunted Mansion counts as a goblin. It just has to be small and mischievous so I guess the gargoyles count. They mess with you (or are supposed to) by whispering at you in the stretching room. We could even just not see them because do you see all 999 ghosts on the ride? There are for sure goblins in the holiday overlay. Already I just destroyed this man's whole career.

I loved this!!!! Not gonna lie, when I would go with school band and choir in the mid-to-late 1990s, there was a small group of us that these types of facts would pretty literally be what we would talk about during the entire trip 😅😍 Especially before Fastpass and we would wait like 2 hours for Splash Mountain, we needed something to talk about in line.... before Pin Trading and cell phones this was quite exciting conversation to us 😍 This was also during the early days of the internet where it was just beginning to be possible to share Hidden Mickeys and other fascinating facts online, so we always wanted to be the first to share a new Disney secret to our friends (anyone else remember "EverNotice" online, where we shared Hidden Mickeys and other obscure facts?) My favorite boring trivia is the Eeyore sign in Indiana Jones. I've mentioned it so much to my Husband since I met him 20 years ago, that I can barely mention Eeyore himself without my husband asking about his parking lot sign, hahaha! (Again, before easily accessible photos and videos of this on the internet, we were quite the big deal if we ACTUALLY saw it back in those days!)
