Glycine Combat Sub is absolutely terrific. I own many divers, and I find the Glycine to be one of the best deals in this price range. Swiss movement, sapphire crystal, milled clasp, and more importantly for me, a very slim profile at 10.6mm thick. Wears like a dream.
@han79022 жыл бұрын
36mm and 39mm models that came out in 2021 and 2022 made the combat sub even better. Both models add extra 100 meters water resistance, in compare to the 42mm model.

I like the Tissel subby homage, it has a clone glidelock on it which is nice. I lprefer it to the Phoibos, cause I can get it no date (I think the date ruins that phoibos), and a kermit option (and the green ceramic is actually nice and dark). The phoibos does have a cooler logo tho.

@PT1111115 жыл бұрын
Not sure it matters to be honest. It's the easiest part of the watch to swap out and/or replace, both in terms of the aftermarket choices available and the actual swapping out of the bracelet. That makes it the least important factor in my purchasing decision in this relatively affordable price bracket. Once it's above $500 that's when I start to pay attention to the bracelet.
@frznrrfan.frznrrfan1025 жыл бұрын
@@PT111111 a good quality bracelet is nice and matters to me. If I drop 3-4 hundred on a watch I dont want to have to go on strapecode and spend another 100-150 on a quality bracelet with solid ends and milled clasps. Just my thoughts.

Great list Jody. Personally I reckon the Lorier Neptune deserves a spot in the list as it just scrapes in at US$399. It has vintage dimensions and aesthetics as well as being beautifully finished. The attention detail and passion is evident in nearly every aspect. They sell out within a couple of days but they restock every few months or so timing is everything when trying to purchase one.

@jarrodcilia5 жыл бұрын
@@mitchaelhollingsworth1698 When it comes to supply I reckon they are being sensible and sustainable. We've seen many microbrands fall into the trap of overstocking an item only to have it not sell and then have to reduce the price down just to move stock. By being sensible with their stocking levels, Lorier are not overstretching themselves and as a result they are able to continually sell out of their stock at the price they want to sell it at. For those interested in buying one, the best thing to do is to follow them on Instagram. They always post the exact dates and time they are restocking an item which will give you plenty of time to put aside some cash and put a reminder in your calendar. One other really nice touch they do is not waste the customers' money with some fancy box and packaging. Instead they use a standard simple cardboard box with the watch packed in a nice leather watch roll. Fancy boxes are nice, but they just end up in a drawer or cupboard somewhere. Like most collectors, I store my watches in a multi watch box or in winders. A leather watch roll is something that is actually useful, especially for those that travel around a bit.

One of your best videos Jody. I will have to watch this again. I did not take notes. My biggest problem with dive watches is the weight more than the size. I hate heavy watches yet dive watches are heavy. I know this must have taken you a lot of time to research. Seiko's keep going up in price. I remember when you could get a Padi for 250 dollars and SKS for 160.00 dollars. (USD) I like swiss ETA over SW-200 any day unless its sw-200-2 which does not have the gear wearing out problem. That is why some of these swiss watches are so cheap from the sw 200 being dumped because they know it has a flaw. Take care.

Heimdallr do a very nice variation of the 6105, the case is more Turtle than Willard in outline but has the Willard style crown guards. It's from their Custom-made range and comes with either the PT5000 or if you can find one a Swiss made ETA 2824-2. Case finishing is better than the NH35A variations but it's only available on the waffle style rubber strap. The lume is Lumibrite standard, easily visible thru the night. Obviously a bit more expensive and not quite a Captain Willard homage but I think that makes it a little more unique but a bargain for £250 ish for the ETA version which performs within COSC tolerance on my example. The Merkur is also a standout, case is great. Really interesting video, thanks.

Maybe the 8200 movement is outdated and the rotor is a bit noisy, but I've made full service on the 8200, 15 years old, and the famous seiko 7s26 movement. At 8200 the wear was almost non-existent and the anti-shock system on the 8200 rises to the level of some Swiss mechanisms. And let's not talk about the consistency of accuracy on the 8200..

I think it was a Promaster model nicknamed an 'Orca'. It had a distinctive approach to the design of the markers, like (but not at all like) the sharktooth Monsters and it's nickname was well deserved. Looks great! Not saying 'you've ommited these from your list', by any means. I guess I'm only reminiscing with the dive watch appreciation society, ha.

Definitely check out the Triton. I picked one up a month ago and love it. The bracelet is very nice but the clasp is cheap. So instead of replacing the whole thing I only upgraded the clasp with a Strapcode diver clasp.

Great vid. This would be pretty close to my list too. You should check out deep blue. They've been around forever and produce great watches. They used to be larger only, but recently they've expanded to 40mm divers. But the BEST part is the price. There is always a coupon code for 40% off -- right now it's BLUE. You can get a 40mm nh35, 300m diver with 120 click bezel, sapphire, and any color face (even colored full lume or multicolored abalone) for $150 on strap for $200 on a nice bracelet. And you don't have to take any risks on Ali. (No affiliation, just feel like they should get a mention.)

perdendosi Great overlooked brand! My 40mm 1500m Sea Quest is the bomb!

Oh, you should also check out Bernhardt. They're one of the original microbrands, but still in existence. Their entry level divers float around the $300 mark with Miyota 9015s (their older models with 8200 series movements were closer to $200), and they're known for their excellent finishing and superlative (can I use that word?) bracelets -- especially at the price point. They've upped their design game a lot in the last couple of years and I think they get overlooked because they're not the "latest and greatest" and they don't go chasing reviewers and influencers. (No offense, Jody.) Seriously -- look them up! www.bernhardtwatch.com/

Great video like always and the options are really good for the price range

I really like Helm and Zelos. Isn't it amazing how so many microbrands use Seiko movements and produce better watches. Now that is QC.

The Phoibos 007 is fantastic. I’ve had mine for 10 days and it’s lost just 5 secs. They seem to have sorted the QC issues you mentioned in your original review too. 👍

i think the Tisell marine diver is a better option than the phoibos...and its almost $100 cheaper. sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, miyota 9015.

The claps in the Tisell is a no no, and doesn't have lumed bezel, some of the things that makes the Phoibos PY 007 a better watch.

Costco a few months ago had the glycine combat sub for only $275 if I remember right. It was a heck of a deal!
