DQ3 is the hardcore fan's favorite, which refined the systems introduced in DQ1 + 2. This is an extremely polished JRPG that probably had the strongest influence on the whole series. From what I gather, the popularity vote goes to DQ5, which is the FF7 of the Dragon Quest series. It perhaps has the most dramatic story of them all. DQ6 does nothing wrong and the content is huge, but as the final part of a trilogy, the novelty is gone. DQ4's chapter system is also very well received. DQ7 stands its own. I consider it fan service. It has so much content that it can be overwhelming for non-hardcore fans. But for those that just can't get enough of Dragon Quest, this is probably the title to spend the most time with. DQ8 was probably the most successful, though, but I think it's because for the first time Akira Toriyama's artwork really came to life in 3D. It's an incredible world to explore, with addicting music and lots of humor. Sadly I haven't played DQ9-11 (but 10 is more of a spin-off anyway). The most popular spin-off now seems to be Dragon Quest Builders. It adds the charm of Dragon Quest and its great music to Minecraft. The hack-and-slash titles DQ Heroes are ok too, but this video handles them enough.

in all honesty, if a DQ game gets a 3DS remake, it has to be IX it's practically made for the 3DS from the online functions to the pseudo-streetpass system, it pioneered the mechanic, and it was a damn shame for the DS servers to close down because the free cameos from the past characters were amazing, and it always helped to have some certain items in stock from DQVC

+1.21 Gigawatts It's because the deal wasn't to mention dragon quest heroes 2 similar to how one does with a Crunchyroll ad. But to make a video about dragon quest heroes 2. I think making it a part of a top 10 series for the video is much better (and financially smarter) than just making a gameplay video of the new game.

@RoastedCatGames7 жыл бұрын
+Moosh *"every shifty-ass deal that comes your way"* This sort of shows how little insight you actually have to this specific situation and sponsored content in general. He gets more offers than he could make use of every single week even if all he did was making sponsored content. He obviously takes the best he gets as intentionally taking a bad deal that harms his credibility (but gets him more money) is not in his interest. But yeah regarding the rest of what you said. You could also just go out of your way and only watch the videos that aren't sponsored, it wouldn't take much effort. Or as you say simply stop watching. When I say "you" I don't mean YOU but everyone reading this. I feel like there's a lot of anti-fans here that intentionally watch things they don't enjoy so that they can expose their negative energy onto somewhere.
@OhLookNoNumbers7 жыл бұрын
I didn't mean literally every shifty deal. I know there's worse out there, but there's also plenty of sponsors that don't put conditions in the agreement that you have to bring up the product every 5 minutes. It harms the quality of the video, makes the script feel awkward and forced, and hurts the credibility of the channel more I feel than just doing a half hour video about the sponsored product. I'd much rather have a video that's 100% advertisement that I know to skip or one where the advertising is so subtle and subliminal I don't even notice it. Or a short plug for ScamCrate bookending the video. Basically anything that isn't this.
@RoastedCatGames7 жыл бұрын
+Moosh Well, I already went into most of what you said. You should read my original comment that wasn't targeted at you that is in this thread. This video is supposed to be a sponsored video about dragon quest heroes 2. But instead of making a gameplay video about it that will get way less views he chose to incorporate it into a top 10 video that he likely would have done regardless at some points. This is very smart from a financial point of view. And it's not a malicious motivation to do it as he is not making ridiculous amounts of money from this. I personally think it feels quite natural as the promotion and the video share source material. And I'm able to tune out for the short moments that he talks about the new game as I would with micro ads throughout a sporting event etc. He was open with the fact that it was a sponsored video seconds into the thing. And he get's basically no money from views anymore so it's not clickbait either. Especially if a person only watches for a few seconds. Are you mad because he made you waste a few seconds watching the video to check if it was an ad? Ironically he probably wasted even more of your time and you likely went through the entire video even though you knew you wouldn't like it from the start.

I'm sure people are probably mad that this is a sponsored video, but I don't care. Not enough people talk about Dragon Quest, so I'll take any video about it that I can get since it's my favorite classic-style JRPG series (since I don't count Pokemon since I consider monster-collecting JRPGs to be their own sub-genre. Though of course the Dragon Quest series has several games that fall into that sub-genre themselves) Also, I seriously don't understand why people hate sponsored videos so much in general. KZbinrs need to make a living and sometime normal ad revenue isn't reliable enough of an income.

"since I don't count Pokemon since I consider monster-collecting JRPGs to be their own sub-genre." So how you define that "own sub-genre"? I could make whole list of examples how really illusive this division is.. just in some games like Pokemon it isn't.

I have only played 3 DQ games... DQ8, DQ9, DQ Heroes. I have to say, out of these 3, My favorite has to be DQ8. DQ 8 was the first DQ game I've played so it has place deep in my heart. DQ 8's Music was so beautifully done that when I hear it now, I feel the nostalgia from my time as a 9 year old with his PS2. The story was like no other game I've played before. I was engulfed in the story wanting to find the next objective and chasing after the villain of the story. *Skip paragraph 2! Major spoilers!* I remember meeting Dhoulmagus and thinking, " How am I supposed to beat that!" But as I chase after him, getting stronger and stronger, It truly made me believe more that I am a match for him. This concept made me feel antsy because every time I got stronger or got better gear, it made me want to fight Dhoulmagus even more, rather than fear him. This made me truly want to test my strength with Dhoulmagus. The same Villain who I feared was a god back when I was lv. 1. Once beating him and finding out about the true boss in control of everything and killing him too, It clearly made me feel accomplished. I avenged everyone and stopped him. A great feeling to end the game! (until the dragovian trials) The voice acting was well done! Everyone I met in my journey had spectacular voice acting that presented their character. For example, Yangus the Bandit. Now, You have to admit that voice acting was spot on and fits him. I can go on with many other characters in the series but in my opinion, Yangus had the best voice acting that fit so well with his character and personality. For a PS2, the graphics at that time to now still blows me away. Though everything is not as detailed as games nowadays, I have to give the creators my respect. The scenery was majestic. Climbing mountains or hills, walking on high paths, traveling almost everywhere! It felt so good to stop your tracks and just take in all the beautiful scenery at a high or low view. There is so much for me to talk about in DQ8 but I feel like I typed too much lol. I bet some people only read the first couple sentence because of how long this is. I'm 18 now, and to conclude this comment, I *love* the Dragon Quest series and I would love to play DQ8 all over again and relive the whole experience in the same way again! (Or in a new way)

I still remember showing up at a Dragon Quest IX event at my local game shop. It was the first time I would attend such a thing, and it was just such a blast. We were a bunch of people too, surprisingly, and they had some merch for everyone. Too bad there wasn't more people in my area playing this game. I remember it was such a huge thing in Japan when it first came out, everybody hanging out together in the streets, playing the game in coop.
@azazeltheundyingdamienkali57005 жыл бұрын
One thing I especially love about Dragon Quest IX is the fact that, if you have enough imagination, you can pretty much make your own narrative for your main character and their party members. For example, in my recent second playthrough, it was the story of Six, a small Celestrian girl who journeys through the Protectorate with her companions, Kumoko, Ghost, and Bonnie, all while coming to terms with the fact that her entire life as a Celestrian is crumbling around her, and how she has to move on from it.
@theacapellamaestro57864 жыл бұрын
@26:42 "Final Fantasy has only 4 classes compared to Dragon Quest III's 8 classes." The first Final Fantasy had 6 classes. That's not even counting the evolutions of the classes, which technically bring the total classes in the very first game to 12.

"Dragon Quest III - The Seeds of Salvation" was my favourite due to the job system, first Dragon Quest game to have an underworld component like Alefgard, first game to have day and night sequences, and the origins of Erdrick. It was also the first JRPG to be a prequel as its held about 100 years before the events of Dragon Quest. "Dragon Quest V - Hand of the Heavenly Bride" was also excellent as you can recruit monsters to fight in battle, and it was the first Dragon Quest where your main character is not a Legendary Hero. I didn't like Dragon Quest 9 too much as you only have one save slot as opposed to two or three, which left you vulnerable to losing data or missing important quest items.
@Wingforth7 жыл бұрын
I agree %100 with your top pick. Dragon quest 3 for the gbc was one of the first games i remember preordering and just knowing I had to have it. I am a bit sad though you left out dragon quest monsters 2. It might not have been the best game in the series, but the whole premise of the first 2 monsters and the world they built just left me wanting to see more of the other tree kingdoms, and eventually running into terry in 2 was one of my favorite moments in the series.

I'll be honest with you, Jirard. I love your Top 10s. I really do. Most of them, if not all of them, are among my most favorite videos of yours. However, this is by far the weakest Top 10 you've made so far. The subject itself isn't what's wrong about it. I may not be a Dragon Quest fan myself, due to the fact I've never played a single DQ game myself, but it's always interesting to see which installments of one franchise in particular are among one individual's favorites. However, the fact you constantly felt the need to talk about DQ Heroes II over and over with almost every entry on this list was REALLY annoying. I get it's a sponsored video made to promote this game and that's fine. But you should have found a better way to include the promotionial aspect of it. The AVGN recently made a video about Sonic '06 sponsored by Full Sail University. But guess what? He didn't constantly bring up Full Sail University once every three minutes during that video! If I were you, I would have simply talked about DQ Heroes II at the very beginning of the video and at the very end of it, while letting the Top 10 itself have the time to breath without being slowed down by DQHII over and over. I wish someone would edit this video to remove every single instance of you mentioning that game during said Top 10. Sorry, Jirard. I've rarely done this, but I'm REALLY tempted to give you a thumbs down for that video. You BETTER not do something similar the next time you make a Top 10.

I wasn't fortunate enough to live in an area with a high concentration of players, but I'll never forget the feeling of sheer joy I got when I DID find that rare player! And I totally agree that a 3DS remake would be amazing, but for a slightly different reason! Each of the episodic plot segments in the game felt satisfying, and the game play was fantastic, specifically alchemy and the post game treasure map. I would love it to have a 3ds remake, as I could get a chance to play the extra content I missed, and also, perhaps see a resolution to the almighty being split into ten pieces, as the game implies as much.

The symphonic music is the best in the series, even better fidelity than DQ 11 due to it being a full orchestra. There is such an incredible amount of content, even post game, that it rivals Western RPGs in length, while still having a cohesive story, unlike most Western RPGs. It's one of the best RPGs of the generation, I need to replay it soon.
