Balkans is so underrated it doesn’t even get mentioned enough in an underrated europe video. Only sofia mentioned what about all the other really underrated towns like Ohrid, Berat, Subotica, Budva, Sarajevo, Zadar, Pula, Novi Sad, Prizren at least one of them deserved a mention. @viamedia27044 жыл бұрын
Sofia is actually a city with great potential, it's been a melting pot of cultures for centuries, lots of natural beauty around, some genuinely amazing architecture, lots of culture, decent nightlife... It's, however, progressively been ruined by decades of incompetent administration... much of the old, elegant, Viennese-style buildings are left to crumble or burn down in suspicious circumstances, lack of regulation means that ugly monstrosities are regularly being erected without any consideration for the skyline, roads, pavements and parks aren't being maintained properly... Even the yellow cobblestones in the center are continuously destroyed by the heavy traffic allowed to pass through them. Pedestrian spaces are still very limited, bike infrastructure - highly lacking. Access to Vitosha - arguably Sofia's biggest selling point - relies on a few highly irregular bus lines, i.e. you very much need a car to get there. Public transport is pretty bad over all, which contributes to most people choosing to drive instead, hence the terrible pollution. It's certainly not a city primed to give a good experience for tourists, let alone for people living there. All of these problems do also exist in other Bulgarian cities, but when they are systematic in a city as large as Sofia, the end result is simply catastrophic.

@Matthew Williams Dubrovnik is not underrated, dubrovnik is more expensive than barcelona ,getting at the city walls will cost you 10 euros. Split also gets tourists. As for koper I don’t think we should consider slovenia a part of the balkans. As for Podgorica it is absolutely underrated.

Without a doubt my favourite places is Vilnius, I went in autumn a few years ago and it was just perfect. Bratislava is also extremely beautiful though is getting touristy. I also think places in Romania should be on the list, Bucharest is very busy but it has the most diverse architecture I have ever seen. Next on the list is going to be Slovenia. And perhaps I’m biased due to having a Polish girlfriend but Wrocław is a must to anyone travelling to Poland. Shame the UK doesn’t have more cities worth visiting - but perhaps our towns are what people should come to see 🇬🇧

Finally Gothenburg is getting some International recognition as it deserves! Because Sweden is not only Stockholm and Lappland :-). Speaking about Gothenburg and it's surrounding areas. Various airlines are flying directly to Gothenburg such as Air Baltic, Air France, Air Serbia, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Czech Airlines, Easyjet, Eurowings, Finnair, Icelandair, KLM, LOT, Lufthansa, Norwegian, Qatar Airways, Pegasus, Ryanair, SunExpress, Turkish Airlines, Swiss and Vueling have direct flights to Gothenburg. Gothenburg is completely different than Stockholm especially when it comes to the archipelago. Stockholm archipelago is undeniably beautiful but Gothenburg's archipelago and the surrounding areas is something out of a fairytale especially from Midsummer to the beginning of September with it's natural beauty and speaking about the sunsets in August... They're to die for. There are some places where you should do day trips from Gothenburg or make a stopover in if you're traveling from to/from Gothenburg to/from Oslo. For example Vrångö, Brännö, Hönö, Skagen (Denmark), Marstrand, Åstol, Tjörn, Smögen, Hunnebostrand and Grebbestad.

The last 3 picks in this video are the ones that I don't agree with. Cities like Riga,Minsk,Kiev,Skopje,and Sarajevo needed to have made the list.

Riga is not underrated imo, great city, but there are quite a lot of tourists (at least when i visited in September 2018)
@jsvilla1114 жыл бұрын
I agree, a pretty city but very touristy. This was in 2019 too so I can only imagine it getting more so.
@jsvilla1114 жыл бұрын
I do agree however that Minsk is very underrated, I think especially now with all the current political tension it may put people off but I really enjoyed it

As an American who has lived in Bulgaria for the past 3 years, Plovdiv is much better than Sofia... I've called Plovdiv my home now for 3 years
@Sergio-wn4sp4 жыл бұрын
I don't know about that, I've lived in Bulgaria for some years now and I prefer Sofia all the way, it might not be objective thought...
