SR-71 Blackbird should really be number 1 in this "fastest planes" video as it still, to 2023, holds all the official speed records for an airbreathing plane. The YF-12 basically was the Blackbird, additionally if you watch some of the declassified videos of SR-71 pilots & RSO's you'll catch that they mention gaining speeds of over Mach 3.5. The X-15 doesn't count in this contest as it could NOT achieve lift by itself, it was also Rocket powered..

These numbers you’re putting out there ARE NOT factual. The SR 71 is the second fastest aircraft, but the fastest Jet. The US Military rated the SR as a mock 2, but it was highly underrated. I received pilot information that this plane could fly at 120,000 feet reaching speeds in excess of mock 6. Did a run from New York to London in under an hour. It was also reputed that maximum thrust with afterburners would rip the engines off the body of the plane.

@@kennethnewkirk5911 incorrect. The flight suit patches wouldn't have said "Mach 3+" if the military didn't know the SR-71's capabilities. It is still to this day, the fastest and highest fling "air breathing" airplane ever made. The second closest aircraft to its speed is the MIG 25 "Foxbat" at a little over Mach 2.5 (according to Soviet & now Russian Era propaganda).

I had family living at Marham RAF base a few years back. The windows in the living quarters were quadruple glazed and roof tiles were replaced every few years. The highlight of our visits to see them was watching the F35s take off and manoeuvre. I could have watched it all day! I live near (previously called) the HMS Daedalus airport. During good weather I get to watch Spitfires flying. I’ve lived here for 7 years and I never get tired of it. The sound and smell of them are magical. 😊

well actually the skylon is meant to go at mach 5.5 for scram jet mode up to 90,000 feet but when rocket mode is active its suppose to be capable of doing Mach 25 in orbit/space. this project believe it or not is still going but they havve changed and improved the design since then
