Top 10 Finish - Kayak Bass Fishing Tournament on Lake Murray - QCKBF Event #6 - Batesburg, SC

My tournament season this year could be best described in one word: marginal. I haven't fished well enough to put me near the top of the field, but my mediocre performances have somehow kept me within striking distance of securing a spot in the tournament of champions. For this event, I needed a solidly great finish to move closer to tournament contention; however, I would have also settled for a horrendous finish that would officially knock me out of the running--I just don't like being on the bubble. Without giving too much away, Mission Accomplished.

Congrats on placing high! Thems some BigUns 💪🏾🎣 Hey how do you work your shaky heads around the docks. Are you swimming them or letting them sit, or other? A skilled older Angler in my club lives by the shaky head and suggested I use them so I've been practicing on ponds.

The shakey head will literally work on any body of water at any time of year. I work it just like I would a Texas rig-I sling it up/under any time of cover I can find, let it hit bottom, and slowly bounce it along the bottom. Sometimes they want a little bounce. Sometimes they want a slow drag. You just have to play around with the retrieve, but I mostly use the little twitches.

I'm not familiar with that access point, it's call Murray estates landing? I fish Murray all the time. I usually stay top to mid section just because it's usually less busy than dam end

Yes, it was called lake Murray estates. And it’s in the upper end of Murray. I picked it especially because it was kind of narrow and didn’t appear to be a place that would be conducive to pleasure boat traffic.

I usually fish a around that are & farther up stream. Its a lot better than lower end of lake, as far as amount of other boat traffic. Murray & Clark's Hill are my 2 big home lakes. I'm right in-between them. Its only my 3rd summer fishing down here sense I moved. Fishing has been good, I prefer Murray for largemouth & Clark's Hill for big striper

Congrats brotha. Random shower thought..I’ve noticed over time, you rarely if ever, launch from your backyard on the lake. What’s the story behind that? Lol. Are you just way off the beaten path or something?

You’re right-I don’t launch from the backyard much, but that’s mostly because the fishing isn’t very good around me. Plus, my section of river is always INSANELY muddy. It’s muddy on a good day, but if we get any amount of rain it gets blown out and it’s too muddy to fish. That’s a problem in the summer when it rains every day.
