Low ceilings! The number of times I've forgotten that my basement ceiling is a hazard to 7'+ rods... 😅even sitting on the ground, you raise that sucker up and BAM! To the point where I've put up a massive caution sticker on my gear closet (where the ceiling is higher). 😆 Hasn't happened since.

I buy Ugly Stiks because they're tough and affordable. I've never seen one break with a fish on. I saw a 5' ultralight version break when it was bent tip to butt on purpose , and seen doors hurt them. Other than that I haven't seen one break in over 30 years of using them. I fixed some guides but the blanks have lasted a very long time. And now they have a bunch of different lengths and styles they didn't have before. My favorite are my Ugly Stik Lite Pro, for spinning and baitcasting.

Love the channel! My TOP tip is never step over a rod on the ground or deck. I accidently stood on one years ago ....... rods don't like being stood on!

I did break my rod last week. I had my rod on a vertical rod holder (kayak) and when casting i got snagged with it and it broke right at the rod butt.

Another very common problem is grabbing the rod part way up to free a snag or hoist a fish into the boat. You create a fulcrum that can cause the rod to snap at that point. I would rate this as the number three or four cause of broken rods,
