I agree, Itoh peonies out perform herbaceous hands down. I buy a new Itoh every year. I no longer purchase herbaceous…..I have about 50 and will sell them once I figure out what is growing where because the herbaceous are scattered throughout garden beds. My Itohs are planted in just one area. I also grow tree peonies just for their beauty. Only last in a vase for a couple of days so I just leave them on the plants.

Do you find the Itohs bloom earlier than the herbaceous?
@janepeters5732Күн бұрын
@@EvelynM-vlogs approximately the same time but the Itoh bloom over a much longer period. Herbaceous are one of the messiest plants in my garden. I have to stake them and although they get loads of blooms they all basically bloom at the same time. Too many for me to cut so end up getting rained on and dropping all over the garden beds. I want them gone except for maybe 4 or 5 varieties. Tree peonies bloom before the others. Mind you if I had a big cooler I could hold the herbaceous peony buds for later in the season which I have done on a small scale but have no need for them so best to let them go.

@@janepeters5732 I only have 6 herbaceous because my husband bought them for me on a clearance blow out. He was so happy to have found them, so I planted them. They haven't been in the ground for more than a couple of years. I have a large tomatoe cage over each and the potatoes I plant fill in the central space created by the large C planting. If I don't like them when they bloom heavily, I can pull them up at that time and he won't remember.😁

@@EvelynM-vlogs with only a few plants you can likely use the blooms with no problem. I’ve mixed herbaceous and Itoh blooms in bouquets and they are beautiful. I just don’t have the need for so many. My husband wouldn’t know what a peony was lol

@@janepeters5732 It was a big ordeal getting the Itoh peonies I have, my brother, who lives in Vancouver, had to get them and bring them over by ferry for me so that I could get them in the ground much earlier than had they been mailed out in the spring. So Bruce was familiar with the name "peony" due to all the correspondence. He knew how much I wanted them, so he was really proud to have found the six. It was super sweet.

Have you grown Lisianthus? I ordered some - and so many bad reviews on germination. Just wondering. I'm still going to try it - if the seeds arrive. Thanks
@EvelynM-vlogs2 күн бұрын
Nope, everyone says its a pain to grow from seed and most flower farmers just buy plugs, can't help.

@@EvelynM-vlogs - you could try it and prove them wrong.🥰 I wanted to try last year, but my seeds were returned at the border. Lost a whole year. This time I was told that my seeds will be shipped from Canada. Thanks for the reply Evelyn.

@@canadian-gardening-6A Not this year, but that might be an idea for next year. As I get happier with the choices I grow for my bouquets, I actually though I might venture into experimenting just for the sake of experimenting. Good topic for the Q&A and good idea. If the seeds I wanted to buy last video get back in stock at Johnny's, I might add a package of lizzies in, but that would have to be in the next couple of weeks. People need the appropriate export license to ship across the border, most Etsy sellers or tiny businesses won't have that, but Johnny's certainly does.

I did two varieties in my basement and had great germination under grow lights. Some friends were doing it in their heated green house and had terrible germination. I've heard the seeds are only viable for one season so if you get them use them up.

@@angelabromley3712 Of course, my neighbour grows white and purple lilac, I'll have to see when they bloom specifically. I don't know much about Showball vibernum, will have to google that.

Hi! How did you include the mini pumpkins in the bouquet? Did you glue them on a stick?

No, no glue, I did a video on it that you can check out here; kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6CVl6iojKaNiJo I'll go over it in more detail in my January Q&A.

When do you bring your Ranunculus out of hibernation?
@EvelynM-vlogs2 күн бұрын
February 1st, I start the dahlias, then seeds, then the ranuncs and anems get all the available space that is left over.. I'll answer this in more detail on the Q&A, 🙂
