Smash Ultimate isn't a smash 4 port. How can a port rework and add features to mario, link, rework peaches moveset, and remove charizard to bring back pokemon trainer and *even changing the sole mechanics of dodging?* Its a brand new game, no questions. I think people are forgetting what ports are since they are so common these days.

+aikouka A port will be straight up the same game, same assets, even at times with the same resolution. However, this may differ in some cases, especially since ports like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe add some sprinkles to the original package. But again, the game is not being developed from the ground up. A remake is built from the ground up, e.g. Resident Evil 2, Shadow of the colossus on PS4 and Ocarina of Time 3DS. A remaster, this one updates the textures and at times the sound design, e.g. Wind Waker HD, Shadow of the Colossus and Ico on the PS3. Ultimate was built from the ground up. I'm certain due to the development time, some assets were brought as a framework, but as Bill Trinen from Nintendo explained the game is brand new. Not only due to the fact it was built from the ground up, but also because of new mechanics the game has. The whole balancing seems to already be quite different from Smash 4.

To be honest can we just face the fact it's a new game because Bill Trinen & the creator Sakurai himself has stated it the game was bulit from the ground up and also is providing new mechanics. Plus the argument that people who think that it's a port "still"is BS because all the Smash games have used the same assets since 64/Melee. When I think of ports the first one to come in mind is MK8 deluxe or 1.5&2.5 for Ps3/ Ps4.

Also the differences between each smash title have not been massive. They are all very different games while remaining very similar. Characters remain close to their previous versions often we get small mechanic changes that drastically change how it’s played. With smash especially it’s hard to call it a port unless everything was the same.

Smash Ultimate isn't even a port Literally every single new Smash Bros installment in the series was able to consistently add new content, despite being the exact same game at its core. Ultimate isn't any different. Melee, Brawl, and Smash 4 all did the EXACT SAME THING, throw in a bunch of new stages, characters, and items, but when Ultimate does it, it is considered a port. Heck, even Ultimate has a different engine and physics, just because it looks similar to the Wii U version doesn't mean it is a port. And don't say that Ultimate added less content compared to the other games, because this game is already jam packed with everything, which is what everybody wanted, and asking for anything else would be ludicrous

PSA: Wavedashing isnt actually in Ultimate. Directional air dodges are but they do not allow wavedashes. There is wavelanding but the end lag is gnarly

Wavedashing was just a bug that was exploited by people to ruin the game for those who don't use it. I'm glad it's gone.

I agree with part of your statement, but I don't think you're taking into account the full scope of the technique. Yes it was originally an exploit and added an unintended complexity to the game but you also need to realize that wavedashing is never meant for anybody who doesn't want/need to use it, i.e. competitive players. I think there is an argument to be made for it. If Sakurai wanted to fully embrace smash bros as a competitive game then adding a more uniform and easy to input version of it would be great. The thing about wavedashing is that it isn't an end all be all move. It doesn't come down to wavedash=win. Wavedashing is just one of many techniques that you need to know when and how to use. There are times to wavedash and times not to and only the best players will be able to utilize it to its fullest. That being said I also completely understand Sakurai's current desire to not include it. Smash is great with or without wavedashing andI look forward to whatever the end product may be!

ONLY in America. The original One Punch Man was a webcomic not affiliated with Shueisha (read: the company that owns Weekly Shonen Jump) at all. It got a manga adaptation in a Seinin magazine (read: not Shonen Jump), whose English translation was licensed by Viz Media (who also officially translates Weekly Shonen Jump) and put One Punch Man in their Shonen Jump (which has never had exactly the same line-up as the original, BTW). At best, One Punch Man is a third party IP that is only tangentially affiliated with Weekly Shonen Jump because they were translated by the same people. It's not impossible, but I doubt that Shonen Jump would bother going through the legal red tape to get One Punch Man in the game when Jump Force is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of a magazine it was technically never a part of.

From what I've seen Super Smash Bros Ultimate has changed way too much from the Wii U game to be considered a port. Yes it's using the same engine as the Wii U version but that doesn't mean it's a port. A port would be take the game, maybe put in a few new things, then put it on the newest hardware. Smash Bros Ultimate changed many tiny things that make a huge difference in how you play the game, they changed so many of the characters, and they added every character who's ever been in Smash Bros so no one would think that their favorite character hasn't been taken out. Before I call a game a port I look at what has changed.

The more I hear about Super Meat Boy Forever, the more I lose interest. A new Super Meat Boy? YES. Autorunner? no.... Checkpoint system? no..... Randomly generated levels? no.... I don't know. It feels like this game was meant for mobile phones and was going to be under a different name, but then they decided to slap in the Meat Boy assets and name for more publicity. This does not feel like Meat Boy, at least from all that I've seen. The autorunner thing I can deal with if the game still maintained the structure of the first one, but no. If there are really over 7400 "levels" that are randomly generated based on the difficulty, I don't see the addiction or fun of the first game coming back. The first game had a bunch of different worlds with different motifs, hazards, color schemes. You could get an A+ to unlock everything, and then you of course had the dark world! It had a ton to do, and the completion was quantifiable. But if this game is just the same level motif randomly generated with no rating system to unlock more levels, I don't see the fun. I won't dismiss it 100% yet. But everything I've seen thus far is scaring the heck out of me as a big fan of the first game. I'm fine with departures, but this is such a drastic departure that it borders on an entirely different game.

Sorry, commenting while watching the video. Mega Man 11 is another game that on initial reveal I didn't despise but I really didn't like. The more that comes out about it, though, the more I think it looks great. Glad to hear you are so enthusiastic about it, Jirard! I think when the initial reveal occurred, it was kind of system shock for me. The art style was vaguely like Mighty No 9 and most of those "2.5D remakes" of classic games on Xbox Live Arcade. It's an art style I consider vacuous and boring. But it's clear now that Mega Man 11's art style is more unique and dynamic than I initially gave it credit for. And the gameplay looks very tight! So I'm excited for that one :)

To everyone that thinks Smash is a port, everyone at Nintendo is referring to Smash as a new game. In the Invitational, they mentioned that it was a new game 3-4 times. I mean, it's obvious that it's new just looking at it, but the fact that they themselves are saying it means a lot.
