There are several reasons why I think he's fantastic. I love his sense of humour, he provides a good counterpoint to the more serious Jak, especially in the 2nd and 3rd games. He goes through an actual character development arc and grows as a character, unlike a lot of sidekicks. I loved the parts where you play as him in the 3rd game. He's adorable. And that series was the first game franchise I ever fell in love with, so both Jak and Daxter have a special place in my heart.

I'm so glad that Max made the list! The goofy little lagomorph is written so well in the games, both Hit the Road and the Telltale seasons, and he just meshes so well with the more calm, yet just as goofy as his little buddy, Sam. I love how the two see each other as the side kick but never argue about it. They're happy just to be a team. Also, I'm glad the Completionist team, or at least Jirard, talk about and/or play the Sam & Max series every now and then. The Sam & Max games are such underrated gems that frankly deserve more attention. So seeing them appear on the channel is great! Also also, though Luigi and Tails are obvious picks for great sidekicks, it still made me happy to see them on the list.

For me personally, I would’ve put the starter Pokémon instead of every pokemon. At least for me, I never take out my starter during the game’s story and seeing my longest friend and first Pokémon of the game put into the Hall of Fame is just heartwarming and satisfying

He's a bit annoying in the beginning, but I really grew to love Morgana in Persona 5. The little dude is always trying to help and he's always there with you wherever you go. All the other party members have their own stuff to do but Morgana's all like "Yeah dude. I'll see a movie with." "Yo lets go work out!" He actively encourages your growth as a character and keeps you grounded. He's kinda like an accidental therapy animal that the protagonist didn't know he needed.

His few positives don't force me to overlook that he's a more annoying and more contrived version (plot AND design wise) of Teddy. I wanted to overlook that the entire playthrough but it was so obvious of a rehash character. I would've rather had the two Jailer twins be the sidekicks (though more like Marie was in P4 golden, if they ever do a Persona 5 Golden)

Would love to have seen Clank in this. I got emotional by the end of A Crack in Time after being separated for so long and all they went through. Clank even became a secret agent while Ratchet was his driver and also turned into a huge robot that destroyed giant monsters. He's straight faced, logical attitude to contrast the cocky but heroic Ratchet developed a strong friendship. His upgrades to help mobility or even getting a bit of Gadgebot control like Captain Olimar gave him his time to shine. Additionally, while Daxter can perhaps get a little overbearing, I would be lying if I said the original game wasn't significantly more entertaining with his sass for all the quirky characters. He doesn't really do much but he's hitching the ride and being a bud when things get tough.

I'm not sure I would ever consider Luigi a sidekick. The old platformers didn't have Mario and Luigi together on-screen and it's hard to call him a sidekick in the sports games since you can play as anyone in those games. Even if you count the Mario & Luigi games, Luigi is in the title and the game treats the characters as equals gameplay-wise. Luigi is only really Mario's sidekick in the old cartoons.

I know it's a bit of an odd choice but when I think sidekicks in games, I tend to think of Bud from Legend of Mana. This young sorcerer needs love and guidance, and you take him into your home, help him realize his dreams, and aid him into becoming a better person.
