I competed in Bronze level at the collegiate level. I loved it. It still gets me comments and jobs as a performer to this day. Can confirm Quickstep is the hardest.

GUYS!! Pay Attention!! I took Cotillion when I was 8 and for two years before going to college I made money as a part time dance instructor. Halfway through my first semester a girl went on a "pity date" with me, taking me to a club. I spun her and twirled her around the dance floor. Almost instantly, I was being asked out by girls, always to dance, and I stopped only because one girl wanted to get serious and do more than dance. If you want a very active social life, learn the dances in this video.

Former Arthur Murray instructor, here. Keeping students from trying to dance to the values of the notes of the melody, when they should be dancing to the tempo, was one challenge. My mother asked me to show her how to tango. But, when I took her into tango hold her reaction was to literally sink her fingernails into my clavicles while screaming, "Let go of me!"

The tango referred to in this video is Argentine tango which is very different to the ballroom tango

I competed at the silver level during my college days. Quickstep is definitely the hardest, with samba and jive following close behind.

There is a profound difference between a foxtrot and a slow foxtrot, in movements as well as in difficulty - please don't treat it like it's the same dance. It isn't.

Well, only half of these dances are actually ballroom dances... jive, samba, paso, cha cha cha and rumba are all latin dances!

Nah, they are all competitive ballroom dances that you can find the syllabi for according to US Dancesport. Yes they are catagorized differently (Smooth, rhythm, latin, and standar) but they are all considered Ballroom Dance.

Totally agree, 5 are categorised as Latin Ballroom Dances and the other 5 Standard Ballroom Dances. However, the Tango featured was Argentine Tango rather than the Standard Ballroom Tango.
