I can never talk about "It's Quiet Uptown" without crying. It shows me that sometimes I have to get through the grief, but not alone. I've lost my godparents and I'm still a mess, but that song has actually HELPED me. It's probably the most important song in "Hamilton" because it actually has such a powerful message. Lin Manuel Miranda's lyrics never fail to hit me so hard. I'm still very emotional about it.

It's Quiet Uptown is such a beautiful and sad song. It makes me cry from hearing it EVERY TIME. Lin's voice is really powerful with his emotions in that single song. And when he breaks down in the song is when I break down hearing the song. The same goes with I'll Cover You (Reprise). I always cried when Angel dies. She was one of the best characters in the show. So when Collins breaks down during the song. I cry along with him and Angel's friends.

Each of the songs stands on its own as well as inside the story line. Of all the choices - each a wonderful example of great musical theater - “Send in the Clowns” uniquely has most often been performed by someone not generally thought of as a great singer. In fact it was written for a great actor, and not a great singer. For example, Elizabeth Taylor, Glynis Johns, Judy Dench, Glenn Close, etc. have sung the song to great effect. The meter is intended to be phrased as people speak: Isn’t it rich? Are we a pair? Me here at last on the ground…you in midair. Stephen Sondheim’s genius in this song is both for the lyrics and, as importantly, for how the melody is laid out. I truly enjoyed each of the performances. They were all different and they were all heartbreaking in their own way!

Ironically enough, it was on his telethon one year that I first heard Music of the Night, sung by Michael Crawford, and I was absolutely riveted to the tv. Instantly obsessed.

When I was young my mother dragged me to musicals, usually kicking in screaming, but I always will have to be loving every minute of it. They were always dated for my age but “if I loved you” from carousel has always been one of my favorite songs of all time.

My top three favorites: "Can't Help Lovin Dat Man" from Show Boat, "She Used to Be Mine" from Waitress, and my all-time favorite, "Summertime" from Porgy and Bess.

Summertime is I think the most covered song of all time; I can't believe the oversight. Can't Help Lovin Dat Man is Haunting, but Ole Man River takes the cake.

I'll cover you, particularly when sung by Jesse L. Martin, tears my heart out every time. I am disappointed that On My Own from Les Miserables wasn't included. I know Eponine isn't perfect, but think how she was raised. She breaks my heart every time she sings this and A Little Fall of Rain.

4.5 year old me heard a tiny clip of Michael Crawford singing Music of the Night and I thought it was the most beautiful thing I’d heard, literally stopped playing with my Polly Pockets and just stared off in a daze when I heard it, and that was stuck in my head until I actually discovered Phantom of the Opera when I was in 6th grade. It’s still my favorite to this day.

Memory always gives me the waterworks. The lyrics in the song just seems to show how sad Grizzabela was and how longing she was. All she wanted was to be accepted and happy. This song really gets me crying.

Thanks for making Music of the Night #1! I am a POTO fan and any time I hear this song I get goosebumps every single time. And I've hear this amazing haunting lovely sung by some the greatest Phantoms, but hearing Micheal Crawford sing it will just leave you in awe and with tears.

Okay, the ones that I think should’ve made it into the list (by personal opinion): 1) The World Was Wide Enough (Hamilton) It’s a really nice and somber song about Burr reflecting on how his one mistake, borne out of immature jealousy, had ruined the lives of so many (I.e. Hamilton’s family and his daughter) 2) Pretty Women (Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street) This song is really suspenseful because Sweeney has Judge Turpin right where he wants him, and he could easily kill him now, but he doesn’t, and you’re left wondering when it’ll happen. 3) Tomorrow Belongs to Me (Cabaret) A song in tribute of the Nazis. I don’t think I need to elaborate. Comment any others you think should’ve been on here.

I don't think this video gave "You'll Never Walk Alone" enough credit for the significance it has, especially in the English football league. Jerry and the Pacemakers performed this song which was in turn adopted by the Liverpool fans. Hearing 70,000 voices singing this song together is soul shaking. It has also been sang as a song of hope and encouragement after several tragedies that took place at various stadiums.

The song “Will I” from Rent talks about the loneliness of of having Aids in a society that is afraid of you and thinks of you as lesser. I started my nursing career caring for dying Aids patients in the 90’s and this song just rips me apart every time I hear it.

Some of the best lyrics ever: “death doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints it takes and it takes and it takes” (so true and so gut-wrenching). Hamilton is just perfection, let’s admit. I also **absolutely** loathe Rent but I don’t seem to be the only one - thank the stars.

I thought it was OK. The one I truly hate (besides 'Grease') was 'Cats.' I thought it would never end; magical Mr. Mistopholes can go straight to hell. The students with me just loved it, and I spent my time with them asking their reactions to it rather than give my opinion.
