The Bell V-280 is the clear choice for the U.S. military ... I hope. I would love to see more powerful engines to increase the altitude and esp. the speed to 400-plus MPH esp. if that could be the cruising speed with a maximum of well over that and which is possible without jet engine thrust. Wider wings by just as few inches would increase range too with little extra drag, no doubt. (Not a helicopter but for the same purpose or replacement of vertical lift/landing craft.)

I would say that The tiltrotor design is still in its infancy, so we might see some mind blowing aircraft soon!
@VictorLepanto4 жыл бұрын
It seems to me that the helicopter format has exhausted its potential. A helicopter will always be limited in regards to speed & altitude. Many executives make use of both helicopters & business jets or at least business planes to travel as they need. Obviously combining those two functions in one craft has enormous potential. What I am wondering is why hasn't a larger version of this kind of craft been developed? Something of small or medium air liner size w/ maybe 4 tiltrotors would seem to have a big pay off, it seems so to me.
@rpf2764 жыл бұрын
The coaxial drive contra-rotating rotors still make the Sikorsky models a true helicopter unlike the tilt wings. Speed isn't everything instant low speed maneuverability front back side to side, no need to tilt the fuselage to move like a traditional helicopter with slower response, hovering and remaining stationary while the nose is pointed down, the Sikorsky is the one for me.

Brave it terms technology and vision. When writing brave concepts I didn't mean any of the models shown here. If I were to show an actual example, Nexus by Bell Helicopters would be the first thing that comes to mind. And it's going to take years to make it work.
