Hyena Road, Mosul, Seige of Jadotville, '71... all fantastic and real.

speaking as a former Canadian Soldier with two tours of duty in Afghanistan, there was nothing "real" about Hyena Road. It was a completely false depiction of how and what we did over there. From the general who dropped F-bombs left and right while dealing with the local government to the "Intelligence Officer" going out into Kandahar alone and hand-picking a sniper det for his own personal use, to the false depiction of the construction of Route Summit (the real name of the road they were building), there is so much wrong with this movie. The only thing they get right is the ramp ceremony at the end, and that's only because Paul Gross forced his movie cameras into an actual funeral for fallen Canadian soldiers. Please don't take Hyena Road as an accurate depiction of CAF operations or CAF soldiers in Afghanistan.

@DavidSmellie-s5y My comment was regarding the list of movies I mentioned, all of them, and the level of authenticity and historical accuracy the themes of the film showed. I found some of Hyena Road's attention to detail concerning kit, radio usage, and the look of the film to be fairly impressive. It is also a refreshing change from the likes of U-571, which is just a complete fairie tale. Or Argo, which completely downplayed Canadian involvement. Jadotville and Mosul in particular, were very good. Maybe it's just finally seeing Canadians be recognized that I enjoyed. Thank you for your comment.

'Danger Close', true story - even though it seems like a Hollywood movie. Prob best War movie ever, after Saving Pte Ryan.

As an Irishman, Jadotville is a stain on the senior echelons of the Irish armed forces. These guys were heroes and it took a very long time for them to be recognised. Seen most of these - 4 I haven't so I will be checking them out soon

The Bombardment is based on a true story of the RAF where asked by the Danish resistance to bomb Gestapo Headquarters as members of the resistance where being interrogated there The Gestapo where based in the Shell Building across from a Primary School Unfortunately the School was hit during the attack and many children killed . The Danes have never much to their credit blamed the RAF
@Takhlin2 ай бұрын
Actually the school wasnt near the bomb target. But the first attack wave came in so low, that a Mosquito hit a pole at a rail yard and crashed at the school. The second wave took the burning wreck for their target and bombed the school.

"The War Below". Tunneling under the Huns? A good book for that is "A Storm in Flanders: The Ypres Salient, 1914-1918: Tragedy and Triumph on the Western Front Audible Logo Audible Audiobook - Unabridged Winston Groom". Groom also wrote "Forrest Gump". As for the tunneling and the explosions, "The explosion sent Germans and parts of Germans into the air." There were 19 mines dug, 17 went off. In the 50's another one exploded. There is one remaining mine. And, who doesn't like a good "Soldier of Fortune" story. "Jadotville is great. If you want more, may I recommend, "Congo Mercenary Audible Logo Audible Audiobook - Unabridged Mike Hoare (Author, Narrator)" "Soldier of Fortune" magazine lived off this man's reputation. Be advised, he sounds like your grandfather writing a post card.

All excellent movies. Great reviews. I really enjoyed Hyena Road. Canadian eh! As well as Mosel and Narvik: Hitler's First Defeat. I have been trying to find a WWII movie, looks like Scandinavian (?) a single name, I guess the name of the main character. I think it begins with an "S" (?). He is a loner, in the country and being harassed by a small German squad. I saw a brief clip in 2024 as a pay for view, Netflix or Prime. Do you have any idea what film I am referring to? Thank you.

I saw Devotion at the theater. I was disappointed. It's not very action-packed. It's more about the struggle of black navy pilots in the airforce. To me, it felt boring. It also feels like another attempt for Hollywood to force wokeness down your throat. The 2012 Redtails or 1995 Tuskegee Airmen are way better. These movies have better stories, better action, better camaraderie, just better everything.
