I really related to this video - I used to watch the TV series "The Good Life" too, and that is where it all started for me (I even bought the series on DVD so I can continue to enjoy it!!!). Your Dad adds a little smile to my heart, my Dad was a man of nature and loved his garden, sadly I don't have him anymore - but I always feel him in my garden.... so it's nice to see your Dad with you 🥰

So much to love about this episode dear Nancy! Yes I remember the good life show. I watched it as a child on tv (yes I’m that old) and it made such an impression on me too. I only recently looked it up and rewatched it and I still love it ❤️🏡 your garden is looking beautiful and your hard work is paying off. I also love Hannah and her book which I bought recently, what an inspiration she is! Thanks for the reminder that I must dig out my sewing machine and start sewing again….thats if I can put down my knitting for a moment 😄 big hugs beautiful lady and thank you for a delicious video that I’m watching in my cozy little 100yr old cottage on a rainy day in the mountains of nsw…. I used to watch The Good Life as a child (about 8 yrs old) living in the UK. (I used to live in Surrey where Tom and Barbara supposedly lived !) I loved it so much, I wanted to live that life, they seemed so happy. My Dad had a vegetable allotment and I used to go with him, play in the creek, pick blackberries and he'd show me the vegetables that he was growing. I'd then help my Mum shell the peas, make pickled onions and red cabbage and homemade mint sauce. The smell of mint still reminds me of those days. Now I live in the outskirts of Adelaide on a quarter acre. I'm living my own 'Good Life' with a large veggie patch, a beautiful garden, chickens and lots of native wildlife. I'm shelling peas, pickling and making sauces just like my Mum and Dad. Thankyou for this video. You've bought back beautiful childhood memories that have bought tears to my eyes. My Mum has passed but my Dad is 90 this year. Cherish the time that you have with them, they have shaped who you are today. ♥

What a lovely comment, Lily! Thank you so much for writing and telling me about your own 'Good Life'. I have noticed that the really 'good' part of Tom and Barbara's life is their love for each other, and their playful nature. I think that's the secret, really, don't you? 🌹xx

We're still in the middle of the winter here but spring is already smiling at us. You continue to inspire us all towards a beautiful frugal hedonistic life 😊 Thank you Nancy and Mr. Rose for another beautiful video. I wish you all the best. PS - I loved to see your mama and dad. I live in Northern California, on 10 acres. We have horses (that was my main reason for moving to the country, to finally realized my childhood dream of having my own horses at home), dogs, cats, chickens, and rabbits (pets, not for eating). Of course, we have a garden. I love to grow our own food, it's amazing. I love to cook and preserve all our garden bounty. But... do I dare say it? I don't like to garden! It is so stressful! I envy those that, like you, find it relaxing. I hate the constant fight with weeds that, no matter how hard I try, always end up winning the battle. By the end of the summer my garden looks like a jungle. I look at it, give a big sight that seems to form in the bottom of my stomach, turn around and go back inside. Gardening, and fighting weeds is overwhelming for me! I still do it, and I always start the new season with high hopes... I will again this year... By the way, we do have raise beds, we only water the beds, not around them, we use cloth barriers for weeds, we try, we really do... :(

Nancy, this is beautiful art💕 I also live in Australia and would love to start creating my own garden and grow my own food too but I can't stop thinking about all the snakes, spiders etc that it might attract. Any advices for someone that has zero experience? What are your thoughts?💕
@theramblingrose_
@theramblingrose_ 4 ай бұрын
Oh Maria, I try not to think about the garden 'attracting' such things, as they are a part of Australian life, anywhere there are plants and trees. Think of all the amazing GOOD things a garden attracts into your life instead! Also, I don't think snakes are as common in suburban backyards as you may think... they are more scared of us, than we are of them, as they say. Always wear gardening gloves and your gumboots... and stomp around, making a heck of a lot of vibration, step back and wait... listen for wriggles... and then you're good to go! The other tip is to do the better part of your gardening in the winter months, when it is too cold for snakes?! Finally, how about starting small, or in pots with wide paths and lawn areas, so there are not as many 'hiding places'...? Ooh, and also, I know there are some plant species that have a smell that deters snakes... let's Google it! 💕xx
