Finally someone telling it like it is. They are very sturdy, dense, fearless (to a fault actually). And extremely intelligent as well as loyal. I've had many. The closest match without size is a Rottweiler. Just opposite exteriors.

I luv my Peke, he is very quite and friendly and fearless. He never barks, he only howls when I put his leash on because he is happy it's neighborhood walk time.

Daily exercise? Before you let the one I had for 17 years see or hear her leash, you had better be sure all doors and windows were closed. Once the leash was on her she would drag me for about 4 blocks and then lay down and wait for me to carry her back home.

@@desiraesanchez7279 When I was around 10 my uncle gave me a Peke puppy. Less than a year later he was stolen out of my front yard, so my uncle gave me the dog I had for so long and told me that she was the first one's sister. Years and years later he told me that the 2nd was the 1st's mother. So I can't be sure how old she really was. Of course she wasn't awake for most of that time.

My Pixy was 18 years old when she died. She had a flat face with respiratory problems. She was twice tubed in ICU and survived. I always said she has more than 9 lives. A day before Christmas day when I was visiting my parents in another state her babysistter phoned me to tell me that she found her outside and she is breathing funny. I thought it was a heatstroke and asked her to record her. I just knew that this will be the last. She had 4 strokes and died. My biggest wish for me was to be there for her but I was not able. This has been 3 months and I am still struggling. I wish I could have been there for her and just hold her and speak to her before she crossed the bridge. I feel guilty for not being there for her. We had a onnection which no one can ever understand.

Pekingese only have flat faces; If it has a partial snout, then it is mixed or it is a Tibetan Spaniel. I have owned both CKC reg'd and Champion bloodlines. I presently own a Tibbie.

Japanese Spaniels are often mistaken for pekes, too. Besides the flat faces, their faces are broad (wider than they are high) and their front legs are short and bow-legged.

So many fun facts about this breed. It is one of the 15 high profile breeds designated by the Kennel Club as requiring particular monitoring by reason of visible conditions which may cause health and welfare concerns. Health and welfare problems due to their exaggerated conformation (Body shape and physical characteristics): Brachycephalic ocular syndrome, due to the Pekingese’s extremely short head and consequential shape and position of the eyes. Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS) (also due to head shape) Stenotic nares Suffering in hot weather, due to the above and hair abundance. Difficulty eating, due to mouth deformities. Dystocia Intertrigo (facial fold skin disease) Hemivertebrae Caused by selection for curly tail. Etc. Educate yourselves, folks. Suffering is not a personality trait.

This "informative" video has more photos of Tibetan Spaniel than Pekingese! The Tibetan has a short but wrinkle-less, well defined, muzzle unlike the Peke or Japanese Chin. The Peke doesn't have a muzzle per se so the nose is up against the skull. The Tibetan has short hair on body, front legs and ears. Pekes have very thick, very long (drags on the floor) hair all over. Tibetans, when combed about twice a week and bathed every 2 months, doesn't mat. Pekes must be combed every day or mats very easily.. like a Persian cat. Pekes eyes are set very wide, sometimes walleyed, and low on face. They are related but distinctly different dogs. The Tibetan Spaniel is growing in popularity but being used to promote the Peke in a "information video" isn't helpful.

Their rolling gait is due to their hind legs being longer than their front legs, and their front legs being bowed; their front paws will point noticeably outward, whereas their hind paws will point forward. They were bred that way so they couldn't wander too far in the imperial palace.
