I like these videos, many weight classes are relatively unknown compared to the most popular ones like Heavyweight and Welterweight. Videos like this one can educate people about great boxers they might not know much about. Keep up the good work.

i'll pick Michael "sphinx" spinks against any LHW in any time period. he moved up and got a better victory at hw with holmes(lost the 2nd one imo) and beat heavy hitter Gerry cooney. those are better victories than any other lhw that transitioned to hw in history and spinks was a skilled brawler. too bad he's only remember by getting koed by kid dynamite.

Technically speaking you are probably correct when referring to Archie Moore as the greatest champion in the division, but Ezzard Charles dominated Moore at Light Heavyweight in 2 of their 3 fights with the other fight being competitive but Charles still coming out on top, before either was a champion. Charles was clearly a lot better than Moore at Light Heavy. If Charles would have had a fair go and got a shot at the title he would have hung onto the title for as long as he liked. If they'd had cruiser back at that time would have been the same.

Your observation on the supremacy of Ezzard Charles over all other lightheavies, I'm afraid reveals the inherent weakness of this statistical approach, Rummy. Gus Lesnevich, far from being the best lightheavy of the nineteen-forties, would in truth be placed about fifth behind Charles, Moore, Maxim, and Marshall. He only comes out top on this questionable points ranking due to the longevity of his reign, where he made barely three successful title defences, and those, perhaps save for Mills, against the lesser opposition of Billy Fox. Not much to shout about. And when he did eventually tangle with Charles, Ezzard wiped him easily. Bit of fun your stats approach, but that's about all.

There is one fighter who is missing from this list, the only fighter who would give Roy Jones a tough fight hell may even beat Roy Jones and that is Billy Conn. The Pittsburgh Kid twice beat the #1 40's era Gus Lesnevich. Billy had Joe Louis in trouble but got brave against a heavyweight destroyer and it cost him the heavyweight title. Billy Conn beats Kovalev, Hopkins, Tarver, Ward, and would be challenged by Moore and Foster in close fights. I like Roy Jones who was talented above all others - but Conn would test the Great Roy Jones.

Charles was too good for his own good. Probably cost him a title shot with the pathetic 'champion' Lesnevitch dodging both Charles and Moore. He's the greatest Light Heavyweight. 3 - 0 against Moore at Light Heavy attests to that.

I don’t think Archie Moore deserves the credit for holding the title for 10 years. It’s well known that he did not fight , I don’t have the time line at the moment, but he kept fighters like Harold Johnson, Ezzard Charles etc from the title. He was actually taken to court for this. I can’t consider him truly the longest light heavyweight champion.
