Dredd is still a sleeper hit film, the Slo-Mo effect is stunning. Urban is brilliant as Dredd, the action is vicious and lethal, no quarter given, just like the comic version. One of my fave films

@@jonathanharwood1255 he became a Dreddhead when he landed the role while working with Krill Tro Thargo Simon Pegg on the star trek reboot. It was Pegg that told him which story arcs he should read to understand the character, and through that became a fan himself. As for the helmet thing, I don't remember that ever being an issue considering it was one of the biggest criticisms from Dreddheads of the Stallone version, I doubt they'd even consider making that mistake again. Urban did publicly state that he wouldn't be removing his helmet, but I believe that was in reference to the Stallone film rather than anything the producers of the new film where planning.

@@TallicaMan1986 it's very well documented, by everyone involved, that the lack of marketing was a result of fuck all budget, that's also why the film was set in a single location, saving money on sets.

The producer and writer, Alex Garland, had worked with 2000ad before, and had been in regular contact with John Wagner throughout production, and the studios involved in production weren't exactly big money studios. Don't forget, the budget was a mere fraction of the Stallone version.

Gotta love how most Jude Dredd villains are either killed or thrown in a prison that actually works. Dredd is quite competent for comic book standards. Even the few recurring ones have only sporadic appearances and not even them are safe (Poor, poor, Mean Machine Angel).

I remember buying the very first edition of 2000AD and thinking the adults had made some sort of mistake. I'd been reading a lot of Amazing Stories and Uncanny Tales and they were pretty cool, but this was a whole other level of brutally graphic, sophisticated storytelling with no stabilisers. Touched by the guiding hand of Tharg the Mighty, I was changed forever by it.

2000AD is one of the greatest comics ever published because of the unique weekly content.this was one of the comics in the early 90s that got me intested in comics as a whole. The artwork was totally on another level. Something that was lacking from Marvel and D.C. And Rebellion Game the guys behind the Sniper Elite and Aliens Vs Predator Games who now own the comic are doing a live action TV show. Can't wait.

Now that's one hell of a rogue's gallery. This reminded me of a survey I once read about (pre-internet); people were asked to name ten of Batman's enemies...the ones created for the Adam West TV show didn't count...but most were able to get ten, as well as ten of Dick Tracy's enemies. But when asked to name ten of Superman's enemies...everybody said Lex Luthor, some included Brainiac and the Parasite, even less could say Mr. Mxyzptlk, but no one could name ten.

Maybe in a real big way 👀 he's my favourite Dredd Villain, he killed his way to his family fortune from childhood, hiding behing his age and supposed simpleness, as he grows and gets busted, he always escapes the Judges, even Dredd, and even became the mayor of Meg 1 under a new identity eventually. His story is crazy.

My favourite Judge Dredd story lines. Block Mania/Apolcalypse War (Created in the early 80 and still impacts the world of Dredd to this day.), Democracy Now, Early P. J. Maybe stories when he is a kid (The child, highly intelligent serial killer.), The Pit (Excellent procedural which is a great look in the day to day of mega city judges.), America (A classic.). Honorable mention as it one of the greatest comic stories of all time and it is set in the world of Dredd but Dredd doesn't not appear in it. Song of the surfer. Amazing art with a really strong, emotional story.

Dredd was the best of the 2 films IMHO. While the Stallone version got the city & bike right, the Karl Urban version was better in so many ways, especially not removing his helmet, that's pure Judge Dredd, 😎👍👍

Dredd 2012 is perfect A genius mix of dystopian future, real world and some cyberpunk elements that fits well I really like that way of development of Dredd's Universe, feels much better and serious for me Old comics can be just adopted for this (like Judge Death is some kind of powerful psy-mutant, Necromagus is something like Herbert West, Reanimator etc.), without this magic shit It will look much better, imho

No he wasn't, 2000ad was created to be the opposite of kids comics at the time, it was birthed from the death of Action, a comic so violent it got cancelled.

Watch Future Shocks: The Story of 2000AD. It wasn't just Dredd, the whole comic was crazy, and has been more influential than a lot of people realise. Writers and artists from 2000AD have had a big impact on the modern comic book industry.

Not a fan of 2012 Dredd. I think the Stallone version had the right atmosphere and looked closer to the comics. Its only real faults were Dredd taking off his helmet and Rob Schneider.

Dredd is not a hero LOL he's a proper anti hero. He saves the day but has little or no redeeming qualities. Think this is why the original movie was so bad, they just didn't get that Dredd is not a nice person, he is the law.
