Surprised you didn't cover the massive LAX upgrade, expansions, People Mover, and new mega parking structures for consolidated and moved car rentals and regular parking. At a cost of 15 billion roughly. (I'm not exactly sure, it's all part of a 'vision' project but each part is like a separate project in terms of funding and such

11:38 there is another issue with the Vessel. Since it’s opening in 2019, there have been 3 suicides by jumping off the highest point by January 2021, when it closed down indefinitely. Eventually, they reopened it in May 2021 with extra security, plus an entrance fee and being required to be accompanied by another person, but it didn’t stop another suicide only 2 months later, thus closing it indefinitely since then.

@@Michael-pd6bc they're literally adding more exit lanes. Last year they built at least one new bridge. During rush hour it's just a huge headache to drive near downtown. Of course that's called renovation but they are worsening the situation i guess. Once completed it would be helpful for a while but later on we'll see heavier traffic than before. No subway lines/stations are built, very few bus lines are built, no HOV lanes and etc After living in west loop for a few years i was so glad to move to suburbs

I wish Seattle brings the underground city to life. Would’ve been amazing to have that
@cme98
@cme98 Жыл бұрын
@@Buttsceatcgee the underground city WAS the city. The entire city was raised up by making the 2nd floor the first floor because everybody’s toilet would back up sending shi* all over the first floor at any building along the waterfront whenever a new high tide came rolling in. Today half the city stands to collapse as there was never a proper earthquake ready foundation to support the upper level or anything to keep it from sliding down the hill it was built upon and ending up drowning in Elliot Bay. Keep in mind there is a petrified forest on the other side of that hill at the bottom of Lake Washington which contains the entire Mt Baker neighborhood today & well over 30,000 residents. Imagine all sliding down the hill into the Bay or the lake behind it? Seattle can’t even take care of their own residents despite their ability to create the innovation which has turned the American economy from the only thing there was after WW2 into the only nation which everybody else tries to copy. We get our money in this country from 2 sources. Oil & technology. The technology is all we have should the oil go away & that technology comes from 3 states… California, Washington State (not DC) & Massachusetts who are innovators to the innovators & with technology you have to constantly innovate to keep everybody rich. But if you do not fix your problems you will fail & our biggest problem is our government ignoring social issues which has led to homeless, unaffordable housing, & a drug overdose epidemic. They claim they are doing things to fix this but lie. They never have, never will, & lie lie lie. I’ve seen it all my life. Cities deliberately planned unaffordable housing because they got their information from the real estate industry which plans for profit not for growth. It’s a no brainer. A house is the biggest investment most people make. Nobody wants it to fail. So you underbuild to ensure a housing shortage keeps the prices going up & up so you can live off the equity & build a retirement life off of it. Nobody expected a $30,000 home to sell for a million today but that is the reality 50 years later up & down the left coast. The consequences is homelessness, that leads to drug addiction, which creates shoplifting & turns into bigger crime because we don’t employ addicts or the homeless, the homeless are forgotten forever! But they just don’t die as expected. Slowly we are turning into a 3rd world nation and we created it. Our govt created it as we watched. Some of us even cashed in on it as the real estate just rose &rose. Sound Transit in Seattle is a perfect example of government corruption. They chose the most expensive routes of prime real estate to build their choo choo train while the old interurban rail right away could have been used & were already owned by government. There was no real estate they had to buy, but they built the train to serve the rich. Except rich people don’t take the bus, or a train. Most set their own hours to avoid traffic, poorer people can’t & they can’t afford to live along the expensive train routes either. We were lied to over & over & most of us will be dead before it’s completed. It’s unconscionable the greed and total corruption that came from a simple fix such as the interurban rail provided, cities all over America a century ago had, have turned into this money pit of of lies fueled by tax dollars without any concern at all. But ya know… corruption follows where the money is until they bleed it dry. Then they just move on like the tramps they are.😊

Austin is already scaling back Project Connect. I'd be shocked if the rail component happens at all. Most needed is an extension of the existing light rail line to the airport. So many tourists come to Austin for ACL, SXSW, Formula 1, etc. and many could avoid car rentals or rideshare with some well thought-out infrastructure.

US infrastructural development has come to a halt in recent years, its unnerving. But check out some of the construction projects going on in the Middle East right now. @@NitroDonkey117 Agree 100%. It would take a concerted effort from our federal and state governments to adopt a "this is getting done with your input or without" mentality to prevent this from being held up by eco warriors and anti-train folk. While I can appreciate the significance of protecting/maintaining a species of snakes (for example), postponing a project a year to relocate them is absurd. The reason a flood protection project isn't starting in Miami is because they didn't want to work with the USACE when developing the plan and now the locals shot it down because the plan they came up with didn't pay enough consideration to the local wildlife. If they worked together in the first place they would've been able to incorporate ways to mitigate those concerns.

NOTE! @4:24 the illustration highlights in red, the 'Clay Wade Bailey' bridge, (the Brent Spence is the one to the LEFT of the picture.) and implies it is joining I-71 and I-75. The Brent Spence ALREADY carries both! From downtown Cincinnati south to Walton Ky, 71/75 is a combined highway already! They then split off, 71 going southwest to Louisville, and 75 south to Lexington. It's not hard to see the '2 deck' Brent Spence on the left.

Number 2 is something like what we need here in the Tampa Bay area. We haven't had a direct hit by a hurricane in decades, but if we did, Downtown Tampa could be under 20 feet of seawater. The damaged costs have been projected to be close to $100 Billion. We need a storm surge barrier across the entrance to Tampa Bay, along with miles of improved seawalls, both directly on the Gulf and on the intercoastal waterway as well. A cat 5 storm, if it hits in the right way, will turn the city of St Petersburg into an island. With a metro regional population closing in on 4 million now, a major storm will be a disaster that will make Katerina look like a summer shower.

I agree st Pete is in a precarious position, but it wouldn't be anything like Katrina. The levee's failing, NOLA being mostly below sea level, plus the water having limited places to drain was a particularly bad combination. The financial cost might be more in Tampa just cause of it's recent boom, but hopefully the human cost would be lower.

As much as people love to criticize it Sound Transit 1 & 2 had been a success and 3 is going to be the same. I got to Seattle back in 2009 when the light rail was being build. I can tell you it already has been a game changer. My only hope is that as we rely more and more on public transportation we put more funds into Sound Transit 3 and maybe start planning Sound Transit 4 to really create a connected Puget Sound Metropolitan region.

I’ve lived in Seattle for 4 years and mass transit access was the worst system and I grew up in San Jose Ca. Similar in tech business but the car traffic was worse than the Bay Area. You have to account the engineers back in the 60’s that designed that freeway system was a bunch of short sighted people because let’s face it…Seattle kinda sucked back then. Every time I drove in Seattle freeways I felt that the engineers were all high on pot when they made their decisions and that said I smoke and I still think they were stupid back then

as for the springe bridge. there was also recently a fire that caused significant damage to the upper deck. caused by a truck accident. double decker and flamables/hazmats do NOT mix. as for keeping the old brdige for local traffic. its honestly not needed. there are currently 2 bridges dedicated for that. tyler southgate and clay wade, both pretty low/mid traffic unless something is horrifically wrong with the highway. it would just be another maintance expense for the locals that isn't needed. there is also the roebling. but thats more of a shelf peace than something that should be used regularly. i wouldn't rely on it for every day travel as its frequently closed for maintance.

The Grand Prix in Baltimore was held years ago. The new pavement was to last ten years. It did not. I hope Vegas uses better road materials.

How about a federal mega projeted building affordable housing, upgrading cumbling schools and hospitals, and maybe (just maybe) making sure every major city has a metro system to reduce car traffic

Great example of ballooning all the infrastructure costs in the US. The old bridge (number 9) was build for 10million, or 70million dollars in today's money, while the new one will cost 1.5Billion?! 21 Times more!!! For a similar thing?

Wonder if that bridge is 21 times better or if it will just pay for 21 times the bureaucracy

How come Atlanta's Centennial Yards is not on this list?. Atlanta has a 5 billion 50-acre site mix-use redevelopment project building a new whole neighborhood in Downtown. Which redeveloping the gultch a gaint underground hole used historically by the rail lines. The project is massive and will transform downtown.

I'd rather Las Vegas turn The Strip into a 100% walking street with a rail tram that can take people up and down the street, rather than spending all that money to turn it into a race track.

Never make light of projects built by rich people. I am not rich. But I am a construction worker and love being involved in such projects. What can be built today with modern building materials is incredible and often absolutely beautiful. And middle income people such as myself make a lot of good money building projects for rich people.
