"Thats what I'm talkin about!" Cracked me up! This was great! 😂 I love all the combat carnage!

Some good ones. The best I ever saw was a dual midair/flyaways. WAM Fast Combat, about 1986-87, Del Mar High School football field, San Jose. One of my work buddies came to watch the contest, so I am showing him around. We go over to combat, which was sort of down in a bowl with bleachers along one side. I tell him "now, when they start to fly, stand up!". He sorts of hems and haws, the match starts, and I get him to stand up, he wasn't buying it, he sort of "oh, ok, if you insist" sort of thing. 15 seconds in, midair and dual cutaway. Before either of us knows what happened, one airplane flew off at high speed over our heads into the pressbox at the top of the bleacher, and collapses the side (3/4" plywood"). My buddy turns to me in shock "what the HELL was that!?" The other airplane takes off like a B Gas FF plane, higher and higher, almost out of sight. Note this is in the packed suburbs/commercial districts of San Jose, packed with houses 20 feet apart or major surface streets and businesses for 5 miles in any direction. Finally it quits and it comes down, a mile or so from the site, probably in someone's back yard. They jump in the car and take off trying to find it, good luck. No one batted an eye, next match up.

@@brettbuck7362 I always try to remind myself to be standing during any match, because the planes are super unpredictable once they get cut off their lines

Awesome! Enjoyed this... Why balsa and not something a bit more durable?
@samuellondke91087 ай бұрын
The models shown are made from foam with ply wood spars, and balsa wood ribs, carbon fiber trailing edge, they can survive impacts into the ground but not necessarily midair collisions
@brettbuck73622 ай бұрын
They're going 120 mph with 2 hp engines and razor sharp props, unless you milled them out of solid titanium, you aren't making them survive a midair, and then still be able to get off the ground. These you can sometimes at least repair and try again. But, effectively, the airplanes are disposable.

@@brettbuck7362 I understand that. EPP reinforced with carbon fibre has remarkable resilience but may not have the ridgedity required for this type of flying. Was just thinking that a twin electric setup would be interesting but maybe to heavy to be competitive. With differential thrust you would increase the maneuverability. All in all very fun and interesting.

@@smackfpv Differential thrust? This is not RC, they are only controlled in one axis, pitch.

@@brettbuck7362 Well having watched this five months ago and making the mistake of not re-watching it, I stand corrected! Forgot it was control line flying....

Oh No 20 planes destroyed! I liked the 3D flying at the end.

Thanks! After the NATS I really started to focus on 3d aerobatics. That flight was back in January I think

combat seems expensive
@samuellondke91087 ай бұрын
The airframes themselves are only 60$ a piece, the motors are what can get expensive depending on the event.
