@troyb.4101 no... there are too many off grid people in arizona and New Mexico up in the 5k - 8k elevation, rebuilding the soil, collecting water, digging wells, and living just fine without the AC... you adjust mentally and physically within months, and there are dozens of youtube channels from west texas, arizona, and new mexico that show how they have done it

@@cattywampusmcdoogle I live in Arizona have been here 60+ years now, own a farm that can pump 1,000 gallons per minute.. Buy land with a source of water. When I was younger 105 degrees never bothered me. Now I think we are seeing nothing but heat records broken every year. 78 degrees today expected, zero rainfall for December in this area. In a drought it's going to make your off grid much harder. Research is the key to finding the right area for you. I love the water resources of this area. Yes there are areas in Aridzona with water.

@troyb.4101 yep... lots of areas in Arizona with water, I personally like the northeast, Holbrook area.... as I search, most people in the are have dug ponds and collected monsoon water along with rain catching systems for collecting.... even digging wells to tap into the Colorado Platue water sources.... it can be done if it's not rushed

Unfortunately, none of the land areas mentioned are really prime for families to move to. The land is cheap because there's no jobs, hospitals, schools, gyms, or anything else that makes life enjoyable. We all think we can just move to a rural area where land is 4000 an acre only to find out that we can't farm the land. More importantly we never realized how much work it actually takes to live off grid.

@@blackrealestatedialogue My family owns quite a few acres in Alabama ( True Story). Land in the area can be purchased for 1000 an acre. Now that's list price which means cash buyers probably could pick up 10 acres in Alabama for 8500usd. The catch is these areas are heavily wooded. Possibly no roads, no electricity near by, no police station, no fire dept you get the picture I'm sure. Nothing! If you're not hunting you will not be living there simple as that. Land is fertile but realistically how many people can build a life in a dense forest nowadays? 0.01%

A rain catchment system will supply you with thousands of gallons of water for use throughout the year even out in the desert. Only takes a few decent rains to fill up a huge tank. Filter, UV sanitizer, and reverse osmosis will give you cleaner drinking water than you can get from the city without all the chemicals and hormones still floating around in the water. Of grid is doable in the desert, you just have to be smart about it.
@abiyah31764 күн бұрын
Check out Geoff Lawton, he started a movement called greening the desert. He used permaculture to create swales to catch and hold water during the rainy season. There’s a couple on KZbin who catch and store all the water they need for the year during monsoon season.
@cattywampusmcdoogle4 күн бұрын
drill a well.... catch rain from the monsoon season, dig a pond, and if all else fails, you can buy it and have it delivered. Use pimps at a creek or river.... there is plenty of water

The water is depleted in the highly populated areas. Get a well, collecting rain water probably won't work because it barely rains in AZ. Monsoon season is usually dirt and wind. Depending on the area of AZ there may be water near.

I have made a bit of money in my life buying and selling land, so I think I am qualified to comment. A lot of the states you list are just horrid. You can't get a decent cup of coffee in some of them. Others might be ok but water will be an issue. Culture shock will be the biggest issue though, particularly if you are from Brooklyn. Of your picks, upstate New York has the best prospects. New York formerly had good infrastructure and one of the best educational systems in the world. The SUNY system is still really good I believe. Remember, there are plenty of states where spongy white bread and canned vegetables are the norm. When your neighbors burn their plastic trash and raise fighting dogs for entertainment you may regret moving to " Rural America".

The question is city services sewer & septic city water & if the land perks. Lol. If there is no activity going on & no opportunity for upward growth. Look at The policies the government of state & Where its resources come from… 😂 Water is extremely important. Mississippi has some of absolute worst water & can’t make good cup of Coffee. Taste like mud to me. I will be in the best area for many reasons. Midwest/ Great Lakes Michigan quality of living & the land is clean & there is a Whole lot of room for growth…boating & fishing is great. Great Lakes have 20 % of all the fresh water in the world… not the country! The world!! Sandy beaches THE MOST STABLE WEATHER IN USA & ECO SYSTEM IS IMPORTANT. GROWIN Of many things in Midwest & Michigan apples Strawberry’s & corn etc etc etc. 4 SEASONS IS VERY IMPORTANT. YOU WOULD LOVE MICHIGAN!!! TRAVERSE CITY THE THUMB. SNOW WARM & ETC Spring time is wonderful & the buds in the trees.

Elwood, Ne is not 34 miles from Omaha, Ne. It is 232 miles from Omaha. Maybe you are thinking of another city.

You are correct, someone spotted it earlier today. I’ve made a correction in the pinned comment and description to address any confusion. Sometimes when doing hours of research everything starts looking the same 😭. Thank you for noticing it!

I understand, I do think it all depends on what’s someone’s ultimate purpose is with the land though. Thanks for the comment!

The farther you get away from the population, the more weird people get.

I mean that as a statement of economics. Less people, less commerce, less opportunities. 1 thing rural areas resist: change.
