I've definitely had a lot of trouble with my 2024 Genesis GV70 2.5T Sport Prestige. The 3D gauge cluster went out. The cruise control early on had glitches. One of my oldest friends suffered through Genesis ownership. It developed a major drive train issue due to a defective differential. Forcing the dealer to honor the warranty took months. When the finally did "fix" it, the shop he used for tires and his wife's car service commented to him that his differential wasn't installed correctly. He would up having them fix it right. It's been OK since except for a continuing electrical issue that he's just living with. I would never buy one. Only Lexus, Toyota and Honda for me. And I wouldn't buy a new car anyhow.

As a current ‘24 Cadillac lyriq owner, the amount of issues this SUV has is ridiculous. I can’t reverse when it’s raining as it slams on the brakes thinking there’s someone behind me. I had to turn auto - braking off. What does Cadillac do recently as an update? They made it where when you’re in reverse, a button pops up in the reverse display to easily access to turn auto-braking on or off. Crazy! Everyone on forums was so happy of this new convenient “button” feature, yet nobody is furious there’s no update to fix this. And don’t get me started with the display being too dim in the mornings to the point where you can’t see your display or gauge, and there’s no way to brighten it. I tried making the gauge max brightness, manually having the headlights turned off, and also putting it in “day mode” in the display - NOTHING makes it brighter. Makes my previous Tesla seem like a Lexus/toyota

I told peeps that Nissan is perfectly average in reliability, and not to believe all the FUD. Sure enough, on both short and 10 year reliability study, Nissan was just above mid-pack and perfectly fine especially with the big discounts off MSRP available now.
@bradleyscobel3222Ай бұрын
Nissan’s reliability is actually fairly good. Nissan’s problem (and what completely destroyed its reputation for making reliable cars) was the CVT transmission they used 10 or so years ago. It was a bad transmission if not meticulously (an unrealistically) maintained but Nissan kept using it and then not standing behind it when issues happened. Nissan has since improved it and never had major issues with its non-CVT transmissions, but the damage has been done.

At this point stick with older Toyotas and Hondas, maybe Mazda. The naturally aspirated engines always or generally last much longer than turbocharged engines. And that has been a problem when turbos are all that's available for a given range and year, especially smaller ones. There's a lot of stress on those engines comparatively. Apparently Honda has finally dropped the all-turbo line up for 2025.

I have learned to be skeptical of Consumer Reports ratings. I have no idea why, but their ratings have led me to disappointment on a wide variety of purchases. And, as you observed, their comparisons are by no means encyclopedic. Regarding reliability experience, as a 17 year owner of a Volkswagen Rabbit/Golf with a non-turbo 2.5L 5 cyl. engine, I can report that your observation regarding the expense of repair is spot-on. The engine itself is bullet-proof, however it does have recurring issues with a few peripherals like the vacuum pump, which often seem to require an experienced VW mechanic to correct. That results in a pretty high annual maintenance cost. The big drawback to this model was the transmission, which was not designed to last much beyond 80K miles. Neither VW nor VW America stood behind their product at all in that case (unsurprising considering their cynical corporate approach to diesel emissions) and their poor regard for their customers is why I won't be buying a second VW.
