The only reason I got mad because he started crying after he killed even though he killed like atleast 20 people fighting him
@vshazam5 жыл бұрын
I personally didn't mind him killing, they pulled off his emotional response to it really well. That being said, the circumstance doesn't make it any better for the people who think he should absolutely never kill. It was a choice by the writers to create the circumstance in the first place, they didn't need to put Superman in that position.

The only problem I had with it is that he clearly had the mechanical leverage to steer Zods head away from killing those people. I don’t mind that he killed him tho.
@Nicholas_Chen_5 жыл бұрын
I don’t mind really, the circumstance alone is perfectly reasonable, however I think the film itself didn’t make the invasion/terraforming genocide enough of a horrid act, a lot of casualties and it didn’t make them impactful, so when seeing through all the mass destruction of Metropolis and finally reached the final climatic battle, i just don’t really feel the gravity of the death of Zod.

I have ALWAYS felt that way too. Killing Zod was brilliant if you ask me. It was about time they made a Superman movie (or anything for that matter with Superman) where he was FORCED to take a life for the sake of protecting humanity. And it's NOT like he wasn't affected by doing it. His scream of agony was great. Shows he's STILL the Superman we all know and love who cherishes life and never wanted to take it from anyone. But he had no choice. He'd have killed that family, and MANY, MANY more. There was no way to send him to the phantom zone anymore since the ship left, and this universe isn't like the Arrowverse (or the MCU for that matter since SHIELD has cells that can contain basically anyone but Ghost Rider so far) where they had cells built to contain almost any type of power. It was before kryptonite was introduced too so it wasn't an option to use it to contain him in a less secure cell. There wasn't really a better option for him in this scenario. As for his destruction of Metropolis during the battle it's bullshit how much shit he got for that but no one hated on the Avengers for LITERALLY dropping a giant chunk of a massive city on civilians killing thousands and leading to the sokovia accords. And he was fighting an army of WARRIORS who had all his abilities and were basically stronger and better trained than he was so of course he didn't know how to fight them with causing massive property damage and loss of life. It was his FIRST battle EVER. He shouldn't be held to the same standards as a fully formed Avengers in their debut. (who might I add STILL caused lots of property damage on their first battle in New York even if there's not as many casualties.) Man of Steel got shit on for doing things the MCU had done for years and would do in the future simply because Superman is generally seen as a boy scout who doesn't EVER bend his rules. Much like Batman who people forget killed people in ALL his live action film adaptations since at least 1989. Superman also killed Zod and his followers in Superman II, though people don't seem to know or care if they do about that.
@TheRealTimMeredith5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree that it's fine that he killed Zod, but I don't actually think that's the worst part about that scene. I mean, for like 10 second he treats it as though it's a battle, and he's losing the battle, and Zod's neck is stronger than his arms, so that the lazer beam just moves slowly toward the family, and then suddenly he's instantly strong enough not only to move the head away, but do it so forcefully that the neck snaps.

It may have killed interest in the character for mainstream audiences 2) You wouldn't have a decade of passionate indignance by Ryan Reynolds, the Deadpool team, and the fans to push for a rated R masterpiece and also fuel marketting and ticket sales 3) You can argue it had an even larger effect on the comic film industry as it shows what happens when you aren't faithful to the spirit of a beloved character and it leading to a succesful rated R superhero film

But it's not like he didn't let thousands of people die already when they battled it out in Metropolis. Supes really should've taken Zod to a desolate place instead and fought/killed him there. Now, I know. You must be thinking that, if this had happened, Metropolis wouldn't have been destroyed and Batman wouldn't have hated Supes. Therefore, no conflict and BvS would have no premise. Not true. BvS could've still had a plot and the conflict between them could've arisen from different philosophies and political misunderstandings, instead of one side just hating and fearing the other, and the other one just being desperate to save his mother.

True, but people were probably expecting something smarter or more karma based, like him falling victim to his own machine or him doing something to cause the people he lead to turn on him. Just having superman break his neck feels kind of like lazy writing. The whole movie felt like that really. The dad telling him to let a bus full of kids die, The fact that Zod didn't even try to trick Superman into thinking they were friendly, not taking the fight out of the city, just breaking his neck. It all seemed to lack any imagination and seemed to show no planning on Supermans part.

The issue from Man of Steel was nurtured by WB's garbage handling of their own cinematic universe. Kal killing Zod was upsetting to fans, but if an appropriate follow up movie were to be made instead of a mad dash to try and get some of that Marvel success they could have built upon the death and how that shaped Supes disposition of never doing it again.

Plus, Lucas sold the rights to Disney so he really had nothing to do with Episodes 7 and 8. The only thing that's attached is his name. Honestly zod is an idiot. He can't recognize that they can just colonize a plethora of other planets AND why is it that no one else survived the planets destruction, were they so braindead that they would allow exiled prisoners to both LEAVE and have the literal ability to harm people on other planets, it is so genuinely braindead in terms of writing genuinely. Also his acting is very poor and monotone for such a talented actor. The head snap is bad because it is avoidable, the family could have easily moved out of the way but instead decided to cower, also it doesn't make sense superman would care about people when he for the past thirty minutes caused so much death via collateral damage, it is pure shock value without any understanding how to properly implement any value other than "look how different and edgy this is" which for some works but in terms of writing and filmaking it DOES. NOT. WORK. regardless of who the character is, it is amplified as bad when it seems to be done just for the sake of appearing different without any effort to BE different in a good way
