El Tango De Roxanne is just such a masterpiece of a scene, song, acting performances and powerful voices. The first time I watched the movie this scene left me in tears. Not because it was making super sad but it was just filled with so much emotion and passion. I really started crying because I was just wowed by everything in the scene

I remember listening to “All I Ask Of You”. When I was in my sophomore year of high school, my friends and I were watching The Phantom of the Opera during our choir class. During Christene and Raoul’s duet, I was practically bawling my eyes out. They’re so beautiful and adorable together! 🥹

By the time you saw it in highschool I had probably been to the Broadway play at least 20 times...I took my mom to the Broadway play and we went to see the film. And remember 4 teenagers coning out complaining "they sang the entire movie, who does that?" My mom told her OPERA .

I've never seen Les Mis, but I've watched that Anne Hathaway performance on KZbin many times. It was the first time that the lyrics of "I Dreamed a Dream" have registered it with me. The song has been used several times in auditions on competition shows like The Voice, but the singers always performed it in a way that led me to believe it was a triumphant song. Watching the Anne Hathaway rendition helped me understand the meaning.
@lunaskye23522 ай бұрын
The last sentence of the whole song is "now life has killed the dream I dreamed". In which way is that triumphant?

@@lunaskye2352- I don’t know how old the O/P is, but I do know that when we’re young -like teens and younger - the lyrics to songs don’t always register in the mind as much as the music and emotion does. So, that could be why.

Greatest Showman got me through breast cancer treatment, watched the video numerous time a day. I loved the origional West Side story it used to be show on TV , along with The King and I, and the Sound of Music when I was a child and I always watched them with my Mum. Les Mis and Chicago are my daughter's favourites and we stream them to watch together when she comes home from Uni.

Cell Block Tango is definitely a chill-giver. Partly because of the ferocity and fierce sensuality of performance as the strut and sing about the murders they've committed and then with the one innocent one in the middle you can see is not being believed because of the language barrier. The other song from Chicago that gives me chills is Mr Cellophane.

No 2. should clearly be No. 1. Hathaway's performance is gut wrenching. And you should've put The Man That Got Away, up there, 100 percent. Don't Rain on My Parade from Funny Girl? Worse Things I could Do, from Grease. Here's to the Ones Who Dream" from La La Land. Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha....You'll Never Walk Alone, from Carousel? A lot out there that grab you more on there. But agree totally about the switch on Somewhere for West Side Story. And kudos on All I Ask Of You, easily my favourite version of that. Patrick Wilson is criminally underrated and an all around talent, and he and Rossum blended beautifully.

So many great songs…El Tango De Roxanne is one of my favourites, one of the best mashups of all time in my opinion, and the song that proved to the world how awesome a vocalist Ewan McGregor actually is, but Queen Latifa’s “I Know Where I’ve Been” has my heart and is still in my regular music playlist. I’m also a an absolutely massive fan of Phantom, but the movie version just didn’t cut it sadly. Also annoyed that no songs from Chicago, Cabaret, Rent, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady etc. (so many more) didn’t make this list. 😢 Sorry…will never agree that “I Am Telling You” from Dream Girls should be #1 on a musical moments list! The song is awesome and so is Jennifer but it does not deserve the #1 spot of the greatest musical performances of all time!!!
