Watch Mojo, you broke your own rule for this list. You said, "we'll be ignoring films that came out prior to the modern rating system, like The Wizard of Oz". So why is Bambi on the list? MPAA ratings started in 1968 and Bambi was 1942. You can't say it's because Bambi was re-released after 1968 with a G rating. Because The Wizard of Oz was also re-released after 1968 with a G rating. Also, at 0:27, you seem to be confused about what the GP rating meant. You implied that is the same as G. GP was the same as what PG is today - All ages are admitted but “Parental Guidance is Suggested”.

Exactly,many many family movies of all things (particularly animated kids films) are rated PG nowadays. But many parents are fine with what the film's rating contains and the kids are cool with it also. Come on MPAA these films today are practically rated G!

Disney's Tarzan is rated G, and it's not even on this list? Not even as an honorable mention? Clayton shoots Tarzan, kills Kerchak, and dies hung by vines as he fell to his death. When the lightning strikes, you can even see the shadow cast by his dead body. And at the START of the movie, Sabor the Leopard kills Tarzan's parents and there are BLOODY FOOTPRINTS in their treehouse.

They're going by the MPAA ratings. Watership Down got a PG in the US. Though it got ratings which are the equivalent to the MPAA G rating in some places like the UK and Quebec.

Back then just because a movie was rated G didn’t necessarily mean that it was a kid’s movie.

The G rating back then in the 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s was originally aimed at adults. It didn’t become a kids rating until the mid to late 90’s and early 00’s when Disney made those home video sequels including The Little Mermaid 2 Return to the Sea, The Lion King 2 Simba’s Pride, Mulan 2, and computer animated movies such as Chicken Little and The Wild. In the 2000’s, Pixar made their movies rated G and they were for all ages, including kids and adults. Pixar movies like Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, Cars, Ratatouille, and Wall-E were rated G and they were for all ages. However, in 2004 Pixar released The Incredibles which was the first Pixar movie to be rated PG. By then the G rating became a baby rating and PG became a kids and family rating. Once PG movies became popular in the 2010’s, the G rating declined in popularity and disappeared later that decade. The last two G rated movies released in theaters recently were Toy Story 4 in 2019 and Paw Patrol The Movie in 2021.

You are correct. Mojo goofed on that. Bambi was theatrically released many times after the MPAA rating system, with a G rating. But Mojo started with the rule that they would "be ignoring films that came out prior to the modern rating system, like The Wizard of Oz" (which was also theatrically released with a G rating.) So Bambi breaks their rule.

In the early days of the MPAA, there were a lot of adult-oriented movies with a G-rating. For instance, the original "Odd Couple" has a lot of adult content (the second half centers around Oscar's attempt to get two women into bed, and it's even got an unsubtle reference to the F-word). The Walter Matthau film "A New Leaf" contains the word "son of a bitch" and a depiction of a woman about to take off her bikini top. The only G-rated movie to win the Oscar for Best Picture--"Oliver!"--while it's relatively mild by today's standards, it features a scene of a man beating a prostitute to death before getting shot himself. At a certain point the G became the sole domain of kid's movies (and even then studios and filmmakers tried to avoid it). Still, even G-rated family films often feature some sexual innuendo (intended for the parents watching it with their kids, I suppose)--see for instance "Wallace & Gromit and the Curse of the Were-Rabbit."

It didn’t.. It got an “M” rating (“Mature”), a category that the MPAA renamed “PG” the following year. Paramount cut it and resubmitted it to get a “G” rating, but the DVD version (and probably the one that’s aired on non-network TV since the 90s) is the uncut “PG” version.

In the UK there was till the early 80s only a voluntary rating for documentaries this changed when the documentary 'The Great British Striptease' came out. Basically it's 'Pumping Iron' with strippers and Bernard Manning but originally it was up to the cinema owner who to let in to see it.

You should have added Gone With The Wind because it’s G rated and it has lots of death scenes and the scene were they were at Atlanta lots of solders were dying and Scarlett even saw a solder get his foot cut off. The movie also has a scene were Scarlett shoots a Yankee solder. The movie also has a high level of drama. But I still like the movie but I’m just saying you should add it to the list.

Can't blame people of Bambi and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Though I think you all may have forgotten the following too: 1. Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)- I just watched the full version of it and it said it's rated G in the end 2. Toy Story 3 (2010) 3. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) 4. The Wiz (1978) 5. The Lion King (1994)

Toy story 1 deserves a PG then Toy story 3, it should be PG because Andy's Toys act more like adults then Mario & Luigi, and Sid destroys toys but in a toys eyes, he pretty much tortures them, and all of it's dark humor.

PG would be a tricky list, and Jaws wouldn't qualify. There was no PG-13 rating before 1984, so anything harsher than G but not bad enough for R fell into PG.

JAWS was re-released onto DVD with a pg rating. So its still considered a pg film.

I don't think bambi needs to be rated anything different, however I can see Willy wonka being changed and planet of the apes too. The MPAA was formed in 1967 or 1968 i forget which to be honest
