We should all petition Netflix, Hulu and other streaming channels to carry Mr. Rogers re-runs. There are no kids shows out there these days that can come close to having the impact on new generations as his old shows can. I wish I'd had Mr Rogers' Neighborhood to show my son as he was growing up (he's too old to get into them now). Even if the clothes are outdated, I think he'd still resonate with little ones today.

The worst thing anyone can find is a VERY OUT OF CONTEXT photo of him flipping off an audience of children, while laughing. XD It was completely unintentional. He had a laugh at himself about it as he knew it was an obscene gesture but he knew the kids wouldn't recognize it either. XD The man was so pure. I miss him dearly.

He made me feel like I was good enough, just like I was. He obviously had a huge impact on all the children who once watched his shows, and the absence of his kind heart, mind and voice really shows in the generations who have come since then. He taught common decency, how to love everyone- even if they are different or we don't agree. He taught us how to love ourselves and be kind to ourselves, without doing so at the expense of others. He taught us to appreciate everything and wonder at the little things in life. What a wonderful, God-fearing man he was. The people who never knew him or his show really missed out on something life-changing and wonderful.

Heroes are hard to come by. I was born in 1969, and from the very first time I watched Mr. Rogers, King Friday, and Henrietta Pussycat, I was mesmerized. His message was so affirming, and his cadence was slow and thoughtful. He embodied love, acceptance, and taking a stand against evil. He was much more than a messenger of tolerance. I really loved watching Mr. Rogers as a little kid and even now, as a 35 year old grownup he still is a calm and reassuring voice to hear whose message of "I like you just the way you are" and other positive message still rig loud and true today. His goodbye message/video makes me cry every time I see it cause I really miss him and his words of love and kindness. Kids need them today as much as they did when I and generations of other kids who grew up watching Mr. Rogers needed them.

This absolutely touches yet breaks my heart at the same time. Fred was someone we all needed in our lives. Notice that I did not call him Mr. Rogers because he was my friend. He was all of our friends. He was so unique and special and the world just isnt the same without him now. Take 10 seconds to think about about Fred. Imagine how happy he is to know ypu are thinking about him! 😭🙂

I watched "Won't You Be My Neighbor" this morning. I was born in 1974 and grew up in a poor family in a very small New England town. We had three television channels so Mr. Rogers on PBS was something I watched daily for many years. Of course being a 44 year old man now, ex military, current merchant marine, tattoos, metal head, etc..I'm no softy. But within minutes of watching this documentary, hearing his voice again, being welcomed back into the neighborhood and the land of make believe the tears started to flow. It was as if we were never apart. Mr. Rogers was a saint, a national treasure and we did not deserve him. He is dearly missed and will never be forgotten.

I love how he never shied away from tough topics and he tackled them head on, his method was lighthearted, but he understood the gravity of the topic and was never disingenuous about it. He was the light in a dark world. I talked to my mom about how much I missed Mr. Rogers and how we need somebody like him today, and she said to me, we all have a little bit of Mr. Rogers in us. We just have to find it.

Okay, I was pretty much a blubbering mess from about 10 seconds into this. I love that in a sense he's far from gone. If we remember what he taught and hear his voice in our heads, he's sitting right next to us.

I watched Mr. Rogers everyday when I was young. I learned so many things. Things I didn't learn in school so when special people were brought in to talk about topics, I had answers I had no right to have. One asked me if I played the violin since I knew all the terms. I said no. He then asked how do you know all of this? I replied: "I watch Mr. Rogers." A bunch of kids laughed since I was now in the 6th grade ( but with a home life that made his show often the only kindness in my world ) The man then said "I don't know why you're all laughing. She got the questions right. None of you did." Years later I had a son and while it had been 15 years since I had seen Mr. Rogers I had no problem with settling down to watch him again with my child. I wrote on behalf of my son and received a letter for him, photos of all the cast and a signed one of Mr. Rogers & a letter for ME! Personalized! He thanked me for sending extra postage (I wasn't sure if they filmed at station 13 in Pittsburg still or someplace else & this was before the internet so I mailed the letter to the station with a special postage to go from State to State in case he was taping elsewhere) & he answered other personal things in the letter that made it clear he had read it and signed it. He may have dictated the letter to be typed but the signatures on the photo and letter were the same and match others I have seen online since. The world has rarely seen such a caring individual. I was graced to have him balancing out many of the ugly things I was hearing in my childhood. While my son didn't hear that at home, he did at school and Mr. Rogers comforted him as a father figure in a way I couldn't. There is a void where he once was.

I'm crying like a baby. I remember watching Mister Rodger's Neighborhood while growing up. I could write an essay about what memories you just brought back. This show was when children were being raised as such. I appreciate my childhood though bad or good because of innocent shows that catered to children. I'm also glad to know that they dedicated the show on PBS... Daniel's Neighborhood to Mister Rodger's.

I teach sophomores in high school, and they love Mr. Rogers! I played a video for them to introduce our multiculturalism unit, and they all became really nostalgic and talked about how they watched re-runs with their parents. Mr. Rogers still lives on and I think sometimes, we don't give kids today enough credit or lump them into a category. One of the best things I learned from Mr. Rogers is that every child has profound feelings and that we are all unique and should be given a voice. While there are plenty of teens who might say this, there are also any children today who would greatly benefit from an adult telling them "I like you just as you are."
@8644mec5 жыл бұрын
You vastly underestimate kids today. They adore Mr Rogers. Stop thinking kids today are terrible and being one of those "back in my day" people.
@SakuraMoonflower5 жыл бұрын
Kids of my generation high key thought he was lame; every last one of us cried when he died. When he is shown to children, his themed shows still have a profound, positive impact on them. Kids in every generation are the same. They all have very deep feelings, and few words to express them until they've been carefully taught. Kids in your generation probably thought he was lame, too, until you grew up. Perspectives change. As corny as I found him sometimes as a kid, I loved his honesty, sincerity, sweetness, and that he encouraged learning and loving genuinely. These traits never go out of style with children of any generation.

I never had him in my life until now, and I'm 25 yeard old. However, ever since I got to know about him, the sincerity in his eyes and genuine care in his words have made me cry like a baby. Simple words like "you are special" manage to touch something inside me, and I feel so happy to have footage of a human being like him. I envy all children who had the opportunity to grow with him, and I hope that he's managed to pass his message on to at least one of them.
