It's not quite the same thing, but if I'd known about it while making this video (the game is so obscure it doesn't even appear in most lists of Bowser appearances) I'd certainly have mentioned it. *Main channel:* kzbin.info *Twitter:* twitter.com/MrMockRock *Patreon:* www.patreon.com/mockrock *Twitch:* www.twitch.tv/mockrocktwitch *Teespring:* teespring.com/stores/mockrock *TimeBolt affiliate link* (excellent software I use to speed up editing on my videos, use code "MOCKROCK" for a discount): mockrock--timebolt.thrivecart.com/order-page/

On this topic, there is something interesting about Roy's sword in regards to smash vs his own game. In his original game, the binding blade does use fire as a ranged attack, but if you do any fire emblem romhacking you will discover something interesting: the fire may have originally been a placeholder animation. If you use romhacking tools to add a ranged attack to a sword, it defaults to the animation for the fire spell. The binding blade's lore describes it as more attuned to light magic. The theory is that since smash released before The Binding Blade and established the fire connection, the devs decided to just keep the original placeholder animation and just add a few more fire animations to the sword. Unconfirmed but still interesting
@DSaC_2 жыл бұрын
I'm not an expert on romhacking, but I'm gonna assume it has more to do with Magic Swords and data storage. In FE6, the only 1-2 Range Swords are magic, and therefore need to draw a Spell animation when used at 2 Range. I assume that, due to a lack of instruction on *what* Spell animation should be used, it ends up loading the first one listed in the code, which would be the basic Fire spell.
@wobbles32172 жыл бұрын
@@DSaC_ kind of. If you use a romhacking tool to give a regular iron sword 1-2 range, it gives it the fire spell, but still calculates damage like a regular sword i.e. targeting defense. Fire is the default ranged attack animation when no range attack data is present or otherwise specified

What I find funny about Joker's grappling hook in Smash is that it works the opposite of how it does in Persona 5 Royal. While using the grappling hook on opponents in Smash brings them to you, using it in Royal actually brings you to enemies for an easier ambush. Original Smash moves that stand out to me are Mario and Dr. Mario's forward smashes, which are bursts of flames and electricity from their hands, respectively. I often hear people wanting to give Luigi his Thunderhand ability from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga as a new Neutral Special. However, Superstar Saga came after Melee, where Mario first got his fiery forward smash and Dr. Mario debuted in Smash with his electric forward smash. This makes Thunderhand and Firebrand more likely references to Melee, so technically Thunderhand belongs to Dr. Mario.
@ThundagaT22 жыл бұрын
More like Mario can use both, because they're the same character lol

Luigi having the thunderhand as a neutral special would be so cool though as well as a down special that uses the poltergust more.

Peach also got moves from smash, in the Mario Party series both Peach’s and Daisy’s way of attacking is pushing their enemies which is inspired by smash melee Peach’s dash attack. Peach also uses her butt when sliding in a slope like her side B.

I don't think the charging Paralyzer was taken from Smash, they simply "converted" the auto-charge into a charge-at-will. In ZM, it charges by itself, but you have to wait a bit. But yeah I can see your point.
@jonathand.40882 жыл бұрын
Still the name "Paralyzer" came from Smash Bros. and the way it works in Other M is more similar to Smash as well
@williamrodriguez89572 жыл бұрын
The paralyzer could be charged in Zero Mission, and it did so automatically. You needed to charge it to actually freeze enemies with it. You can still fire uncharged shots though to destroy obstacles though.

This is honestly a really cool idea! It's really neat to see you put forth original ideas like this and makes me enjoy your content a LOT! *However* one thing you probably need to know and tread carefully about is you referring to Other M as canon. This is.. honestly kind of a hot topic in the Metroid community for the reason that it retcons every other game in the series and completely wrecks the lore which is one of the main reasons why it's not popular. In fact it's kind of why people say Other M *isn't* canon and can't be since it rewrites the lore so heavily and badly. Just thought I'd provide a little insight into that.
@Compucles2 жыл бұрын
The story may not be popular (and the dialogue certainly isn't), but it was written by Sakamoto and is considered canon by him, so that's all that matters. Besides, it *does not* retcon nor rewrite much at all, explains a few important things connecting the earlier games to "Fusion" and "Dread", and whether or not it "wrecks the lore" is a matter of opinion (one I don't share).

I'm not so sure about Metroid getting the paralyzer straight from smash. In Zero Mission you technically still have to charge your paralyzer, otherwise it won't paralyze the enemies, it's just that you don't have to keep the button pressed for it to be charged. I think the plasma shot from the paralyzer could be an interpretation of zero suit grapple beam which is definitely a smash original but since Metroid hasn't used that idea it wouldn't be fair to say Metroid took it from smash.

It's cool how they do this, especially since even a third party game did it. I wish a Zelda game would reference something about Ganondorf's Smash depiction.

Other things to note - Link’s Triforce Slash in Super Smash Bros Brawl seems to be implanted in his ingame moveset in Breath of the Wild as Flurry Rush except without any Triforce - Samus’ homing missiles in Super Smash Bros Melee were later incorporated into Metroid Prime - Luigi’s Green Missile has later appeared in later Mario sports titles - Jigglypuff’s Puff Up concept in SSBB has later been Implemented as a gameplay design as Dynamaxing in Sword & Shield - Pokémon Trainer’s Triple Finish in SSBB was later incorporated as a gameplay element as Triple Battles in Black & White - Diddy’s Monkey Flip in SSBB has inspired Diddy Kong's forward/backward Trick Shot in Mario Tennis Aces - Sonic’s ability to Spin Dash in the air in SSBB was later officially added to his moveset as Drop Dash since Sonic Mania - King Dedede’s Jet Hammer with the engine inside his hammer later appeared in Kirby Super Star Ultra

Sort of a neat one is Mythra. Xenoblade 2 released a year before Ultimate, Mythra appeared as a spirit in an alternate, censored costume featuring her black tights. A wholly original design for the character. Xenoblade 2 received a free update on the launch of Smash Bros, in both the base game of Xenoblade 2 and it's expansion Torna The Golden Country where Mythra appears playable in both games, there is now an NPC named "BroBro". When you talk to this NPC after adding Mythra to your party he was give you the best Critical Hit Rate Aux Core in the entire game (Mythra's best stat in Xenoblade 2) called "Massive Melee Mythra" (In Japanese the name is literally "Smash Brothers Mythra") when this Aux Core is equipped to Mythra it will give her the black tights from her Spirit design, BroBro will then recite the following line "How friends getting on with Aux Core that Brobro gave as present? Did it improve power of Launch? Meh? No change to Launch power? ...Well, it special thing all the same. Brobro have strange feeling it maybe even most Ultimate item of all!" When Mythra was added as DLC 2 1/2 years later these tights were included in her base costume as well as a pair for Pyra for herself (which never made it into Xenoblade 2)

Shieldbreaker is interesting because it wasn't originally from Fire Emblem but the form it took in Brawl, where Marth stabs, is actually based on Marth's animations while using the Rapier from FE 1 and FE 3, where unlike every other class in the game Marth gets two different animations for the same weapon type, a generic sword swipe for most weapons and a stab while using the Rapier. In that sense it kinda was in Fire Emblem.

Just a note regarding Other M's canonicity: Some things in the game (mainly Adam and Ridley) directly contradict things in both previous and later Metroid titles, so given that Other M's entire existence is barely acknowledge by later games let alone any of its story or lore, especially by Mercury Steam who do seem to care about that stuff considering they unambiguously canonized Prime and gave it a definitive place in the timeline via Samus Returns, it's safe to say that Other M is not canon.

5:00 Technically, the Paralyzer _did_ charge in Zero Mission - it was just a passive charge (complete with a meter), where the first shot fired on a full charge would paralyze enemies, and later shots wouldn't until you waited long enough without firing. The name is definitely a carryover, though.

Why is the anime Falcon Punch blue? Probably because both Captain Falcon's costume and his vehicles (the Blue Falcon and the Falcon Flyer) are mainly blue. Outside of Smash, Captain Falcon isn't related to fire at all. No fire kicks, no fire punches, no fire anything

Another Smash attack that end up being canon are both of Meta Knight's final smashes. The first final smash appeared in Kirby planet robobot (for the 3DS) as one of Meta Knight's abilities. The second final smash (the one from Ultimate) appeared in both Kirby star allies and Kirby and the forgotten land (both for the switch) as one of Meta knight's attacks in his boss battles, they're not called the same but they are the same move.

I think things like Whirling Fortress are a major gray area. I mean yeah, BOWSER first used it Melee, but it's clearly based on several Koopalings in SMB3, plus some Ludwig in SMW, and is kind of just an extension of overall Koopa shell behavior. I mean, a lot of Ness's Smash moveset is made up of moves from his own series, but used by other characters.
