Why were the 1918-H, 1918-KN and 1919-KN omitted though?
@BitsAndBobsCoins2 ай бұрын
They are varieties not dates but still worth collecting

@@BitsAndBobsCoins Mintmarks are not considered varieties but separate dates (even if they add to an existing one) because they have their own official mintage figures. It works much the same way as how everyone considers the 2008 Portcullis and 2008 Shield pennies as their own things even though they share a date.

Interesting list, Ethan. I have a few of these. I would say, though, I've never found any difficulty getting pennies dated 1926 or 1953.

Definitely easier to find than others on the list

Many thanks for the video . A pre 1860 Victorian Copper Penny (maybe back a bit earlier) video would be interesting. I fortunately have all the top 10, but as comments below indicate it might also be interesting to do a top 10 or top 20 varieties / mint marks or maybe errors ? [we might not know mintage except for H and KN but there could be a guide to value ] Anyway many thanks again

We all wonder about the 1869 Penny... Super rare today and hence the assumption is that the listed mintage figure is false. Yet was it? There seems to have been no logical reason to mint a coin in 1869 and then not date it 1869! We do know that the practice occurred with Jersey pennies in the 1940's but i feel that if it did occur in London in 1869 there would have been confirmation of such from the royal mint at the time. Granted, Mintage figures are always somewhat vague-- i don't think we have any confirmed figure for the first Copper pennies (1799, 1806, 1807) but the lowest of all of the circulated years must be the 1860 penny --copper as opposed to bronze-- i'd love to have one of those!

I have 5 of these pennies. 1926, 1894, 1953, 1950 and 1951. One coin that I feel should have got an honourable mention is the 1926 modified effigy penny. It's listed as having the same mintage figure as the standard 1926 penny, but it's believed only 50,000 to 100,000 were minted. But I loved this video

I find it rather annoying when news articles refer to precdecimal pennies as 1p, this shows extreme ignorance on the part of whomever wrote the article, because predecimal pennies were NEVER known as p, only ever as d, for denarius, the Roman word for Penny!

One reason they didn't make so many coins back in Victorian times, is that the population was much lower
