I agree with almost every point. I’d like to point out though, when it comes to our snap decisions about people, I suspect that us blind people can do it to based on voice. When someone starts talking, you might make assumptions about their level of education, their age, gender, and sometimes even ethnicity. We probably make these decisions slower than the average sighted person, but I think we still might make them based on voice. It is dangerous to assume we don’t make assumptions about people just because we can’t see them. Also, I don’t have a guide dog, but for me I can’t do anything else while I’m walking or I risk running into things. Or some other walking related mishap. Have a wonderful day.

That is true. But I do my absolute best to never judge a book by its cover the same way I hope others will take a moment to give me a chance. :)

Not blindness but my own disability of schizophrenia would be that while I do lead a mundane life, at times my reality becomes truly magical and beautiful. Ive seen a herd of wild horses stampeding next to my car while I look out the window, an oompaloompa staring at me from within a bush and adorable animals flitting in and out of my periphery. Though on the other hand other times I see terrifying monsters too

Point number 2 is big. I think losing my vision has been great for refining my problem solving skills. I’m not one to say things are too hard or impossible so I just find a work around. It is probably a good thing I didn’t know Braille as a child though. I probably would have never slept if I could have read in the dark then!

I almost never did. I got in trouble more than once at school for nodding off in the middle of a lesson because I stayed up too late reading 😂

One of my favorite things is if I can't find something in a grocery store I can always ask for help to find it. And it's something that you know unemployees supposed to do anyway. But it just feels like I'm getting treated specially and they're always so kind. And court courteous and to me that is special.

Ah yes, and then when they say, "what are you blind or something?" in that angry tone and you say "yes, I am" and there is that awkward pause from their embarrassment.

Great video! There are definitely lots of things I enjoy about my blindness. You’ve touched on a few of them, like relying more on our other senses, and therefore getting more out of the world. One of my favorite things to do while I’m shopping is feel fabric, or smell scented merchandise like candles. It’s super fun to explore the world in different ways. Something totally fun and random specifically for me is that I absolutely love rides and roller coasters, and I never get spoiled about what the ride is going to be like. The first time I’m on a ride, it’s a complete mystery, which makes the ride even more fun to me! I love never knowing what crazy turn or loop is going to happen next! And finally, though I understand that many people will disagree with this one, I have come to a point in my life where I’m happy being inspiring to others. It used to really bother me when people said I was an inspiration for living my life, but I really have been able to change a few peoples perspective and make their day just by being me. That’s pretty special! I love that my guide dog and I can make someone smile just by walking into the room!

That multi-sensory thing is so amazing. I love getting lost in the touch of fabric or the smell of something home-cooked. We truly do need to slow down and smell the roses. Ohh! We’ll need to go do a park together. I love rides too :) I think if someone finds you inspiring for actions you can be proud of that’s amazing and I will accept their praise graciously, but I’m a little less inspiring for just getting up and tying my shoes, so I’m still on the fence depending on the situation. But I’m always glad Patience brings so much joy as does miss Cindi

@@UnsightlyOpinions totally agree with you. I should have mentioned that I enjoy being inspiring for things I am proud of, like my orientation and mobility skills, or my ability to persevere in a post secondary setting despite all of the challenges that come with being a blind student and working with a school that is less than supportive. I think my mind has changed a bit since working with newly blind adults. Even though I was born this Way, I do see how much work it takes to get to a point where we can be independent. And for a lot of people, it’s a struggle to get here. I love showing them just how independent and comfortable they can be with their blindness. 😊 And absolutely! We need to go to Galaxy land when I’m up in a few weeks!

hello! I discovered your channal after watching your collab with JC 5 productions. this was a very nice video. I Am also blind since birth. this reminds me a quote by Hellen Keller. I think we all do. Goodness knows I have felt sorry for myself and bad about being blind more times than I can count, but so long as you can keep remembering the things that you can do and the things that you can’t lose then it makes it a lot easier to keep going and see the other side. I’m so glad this video spoke to you. :)

I am not blind or visual impaired but this was amazing 👏 especially number 1 - it's crazy how people judge other on looks without even realising they are doing it - so to not have that is definitely a pro ❤❤

I can see fine with my glasses. But since my vision is 20/400 without them I can always take them off if there's someone I really don't want to see, although I forget to. 😂❤

I can blend spices for cooking better because I rely on my nose instead of measuring spoons. I can also get it to match perfectly the next time even if the spices vary in quality because I'm not "blindly" following a recipe. When it smells right, it is right.

My favorite thing about being blind is I don’t have to turn on lights in the house. Yes I don’t have to watch where I’m going. I don’t make snap judgments on how people look. I can use my braille note taker in the dark. I can use my braille display with my iPhone in the dark. I can use my braille writer and slate and stylus in the dark. I can cook, take a bath, and get dressed in the dark. And I to only have light perception. And I’ve been blind since I’ve been six months old. And I live in Tampa Florida. The sad things about me being blind is I don’t know what my two older sisters look like. I was never able to see color so I don’t know what color looks like. And on top of all that is without hearing aids I am considered profoundly deaf. And with paranoid I am considered severely hard of hearing. But I do travel with my fourth GUIDE DOGS and I also have a long white cane
