Love the Art Gallery poplin. Great choice for the pattern.

Lovely presentation. Beautiful patterns and fabrics. Now, if only my waist was as tiny as in the illustrations, I'd be set.

My late mum attributed her small waist to the wide, black patent belt she often wore. Personally, I think her corset had a lot to do with it.

Hi all at Minerva. Thank you for this lovely video. I love retro patterns and enjoyed seeing both the patterns and the fabric recommendations, the combination of the two was great. However, I would like to make a technical suggestion regarding the video itself. During the video, the presenter takes up 1/3 of the screen, leaving 2/3 white space which is wasted. Although the presenter holds up each pattern during the time she is talking about it it is almost impossible to make out any detail as the envelope is so small compared to the screen / head shot. I would suggest that it might be worth shooting the video with presenter off to one side, leaving 1/2 to 2/3 of the screen blank and that a close up of the envelope could be inserted to the side and left there for the whole of the time the pattern is being discussed so that you can see in detail what is being talked about. If, on the otherhand, you wanted to keep your current format, could I please suggest that when you do the full screen close up of the front and the back of the envelopes you leave those shots on screen longer; I felt like my eyes had barely focused on the envelope and, boom, it had disappeared off of screen. This was particularly prevelant when the back of the envelope was shown and the shot started off with a pin cushion and then slid down envelope without time to linger on the details before the shot was over - I have seen a pin cushion before, so personally, I would have been quite happy for you to have skipped the artistic editing and gone straight to the pattern back and stayed there so I could see the details. Once again, thank you for the video. I am not trying to be overly critical, but to give a suggestion on how the layout of the video might make it easier to see the features of the pattern being discussed.

Absolutely beautiful collection! I heard that the Big 4 pattern companies actually didn't keep archives originally, and so when there was renewed interest they actually had to go out sourcing old patterns, buying them from people, in order to be able to re-work them to sell again! Would love to know if this is true, and a bit more about that history

Yes, this is absolutely true. However, the biggest issue is that the patterns are being produced using a modern block which means that the garments being made do not always closely resemble the artistic interpretation on the front. Stephanie Canada has a few videos where she overlays the retro patterns and the originals and gives details of how each pattern piece differs which means if you have the new version you the option to change your pattern if you want.

No matter what it says on the envelope, none of these are for beginners as they need many different sewing skills. They are fabulous though!
