Abel Huang--The wedding gowns of the late 1950s to mid 1960s were gorgeous. Made of silk satin peau de soi (called "slipper satin" and today "duchesse satin") were both lined and unferlined, as well as crinolined. Alençon lace, Chantilly lace, pearls were used as accents. Sleeveless gowns were , for the sanctuary service, covered with jackets. Bare shoulders and barely-covered boobs were unheard of. Veil length and train length were determined by the time of day and formality of the wedding service. Even pattern books of the time featured these creations that could be (and were) constructed by loving family and friends for the bride.

In reality, Maria Von Trapp was actually very unhappy on her wedding day to Captain Von Trapp, as while she was fond of him, she didn't love him, and a part of her still wanted to be a Nun. She mainly did so due to her devotion to the children. But as she says in her memoirs regarding the Captain "I learned to love him, more than I had ever loved anyone before or after."

I was honestly pleasantly surprised that Sound of Music was on this list, let alone #1. SoM is one of my favorite movies and my favorite musical of all time. I wholeheartedly agree that this is one of the best wedding scenes in cinematic history. There are no words spoken; just the chorus singing the reprise and it gives me chills every single time I see it. It is simply beautiful 😭❤

I just saw About Time for the first time two weeks ago (and then again the next night) and I feel like while it does fall under the rom com/feel-good romantic/familial love movie it's one of the best movies I've watched this year and doesn't succumb to any of the stereotypes. It's amazing and really sweet, I highly recommend it.
