I get the impression that a lot of these are some people's "fav" songs... but I have to agree with Frank on his takes. Good stuff! Played the Honeybee Festival yesterday in Paradise Valley, AZ and after watching may other acts, I realize there will never be a top 10 we ALL agree upon. This is VERY good to think through... and 1/2 probably will change over the next 365 days.

Thanks for the insight on "crowd pleasers" I have only been playing Open Mic Nights so far to build up my skiills and have made a point of observing the crowd. Originals are cool, but people definitely perk up when a sing along cover is played. Your advice of "play the Beatles in an emergency" holds true! Your videos are a big help to me, thanks!

Great video Frank! Sound of Silence was the first song I learned to finger pick (before KZbin and Internet). I think I was about 12 and figured out T-2-1-2 on an open D2 (5th fret) to C2 (3rd) before I even knew what a 2 chord was. Out of the Chat GPT ones my regulars include Blackbird, Sound of Silence, Hallelujah, The Boxer, Blowin' in the Wind (more like the Peter Paul and Mary style) Landslide Others in my list: Piano Man (yes I do the harmonica too) Here Comes the Sun Margaritaville (sorry) Brown-Eyed Girl Stand By Me (Ben E King...I loop the bass riff and play the interlude on harmonica) Take Me Home Country Roads Sweet Caroline (but not often, still a work in progress) Fire & Rain

Friday isn't complete without some Frank advice. :) I play a couple of these (although I do the Ryan Adams cover of the Oasis tune), but my gig is more about playing the songs you forgot you liked (because everybody plays the "hits" all the time around here), so those tunes stay in very deep reserve for paid requests. ;)

Love the topic of this video. But one of your picks naturally does something else you have touched on before. Which is mixing things up in a show. That is HERE COMES the SUN. Being a song with a much more treble overall tone ( almost like your guitar decided to do one falsetto ). And when you do it with all the ornamentation melody lines and transition notes it is busier and more entertaining for the performer to play. Which might make a good video subject. How to keep yourself excited without forcing yourself to project excitement because you are just being professional and delivering. ( Would needs a shorter video title ) I also think GIVE ME ONE REASON is a better choice for a set list than FAST CAR if you can use a looper, which you have shown you can. Just be sure to omit the 3 opening E notes before engaging the looper on that first F# chord. Then all the licks that do a call and return with the vocals make another nice change in the show. Just one more way to do something different much like what HERE COMES THE SUN and PIANO MAN does for a show. And as soon as those 3 E notes hit every female in the room looks is to see if you do it well. Lets face it this is much more of a favorite of the ladies. But it is such a loved song that doing it just good will be very appreciated and if done very good or great, will get more presidents in the tip jar.
@FrankPersicoАй бұрын
I think you're spot on with your observations about HERE COMES THE SUN. Great points and ideas for a future video!

Two more to challenge as late contenders for the top 10: 1. Weather With You, Crowded House as a much better alternative to Wonderwall and very similar chords. I winder where Liam Gallagher got the idea from? 2. Losing My religion - one where the looper pays for itself. Cheers Tony

There are so many songs that don't make the top lists simply because they didn't make it to world wide distribution. In fact I would say that the best songs probably never made it to simply because the artist wasn't popular. At the risk of repeating myself "Say it ain't so Joe" by Murray Head is one of my favorites even though I have only recently found it. Other singer/song writers produce some great stuff that maybe don't make it commercially. There are also those where the artists simply didn't perform that well in general but maybe had a moment of inspiration on a single song that should have been a hit. AI will be the death of all of us.
