Sony A6400 hobbyist here and still using Sony 35 1.8 oss as a walk around (was bought with Sony nex5 back in the days…because of you 😊) and sigma 16 1.4 for teams meetings 😁 Sigma 18-50 2.8 is very tempting along Sigma 56 1.4 to complete the collection. Returned tamron 17-70 as it was ridiculously big and heavy. Arthur is back with another classic video that will live for years to come. Really appreciate it thank you.

I was wondering if Arthur would mention the Sony 35 1.8 OSS. I would still recommend it over the Sigma 30 1.4 as the image quality is very similar and the majority of people don’t own the Sony 6500 or 6600 bodies with their inbuilt stabilisation.

If you can live with an f/1.8 instead of f/1.4 and a more spartan lens design, Sony’s 85mm f/1.8 is another fantastic choice over the Sigma 85mm f/1.4. Can be found between $500-600, is crazy sharp, and shockingly compact. For the person who wants a portrait lens on hand “just in case”, it’s great.

The Sigma 18-50 is great for It's price. For some of us 16-55 is much more versatile. Not because it goes to 55 but because it starts at 16. Since both Sigma and Tamron have full frame zooms starting at 28 I bought the Sigma 24 f2. The build quality is the best of all the lenses I own and have owned.

The only wider non-fisheye lens available on aps-c format is the Sigma 8-16mm, albeit you'd need an adapter to use it on an e-mount camera body. I have one from my Sony a-mount days otherwise I would probably be interested in the Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero-D myself! Its nice to see you still think so highly of the Sigma trio! They've been out for a while now and most lenses get almost "forgotten" when they're not new anymore, these still have a great amount of following. I'm struggling with getting out and about with my camera these days but hopefully will break myself out of that soon! Take care. :)

Always love your videos! Everyone has their own preferences based upon their own usage. Mine's a little different. I have the Sony 20mm f/1.8 G lens that I love! Very sharp. Then the cheap Tamron 35mm f/2.8, I actually liked better than the Sony Zeiss I used to own. After that, the Sigma 65mm f/2mm lens which is great. Also love the Sigma 90mm f/2.8mm lens as well. And then to round it off, I have the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 lens which is terrific for event photography. They all work extremely well on my Sony a7riii. I was debating between the Tamron 35-150 and the 70-180 that I have, but I'm one of the few that like the 70-180 better. I like the longer distance and also it is much lighter and smaller. I think I"m in the minority though. I think most will prefer the 35-150, but for my purposes and event photography, I'm usually shooting 70mm and past, and bring the 20mm and 35mm when I need them. They are small and portable. I use the 20mm, 65mm and 90mm for light travel (not event photography), since all these lenses are quite small.

I find it isn't up to the standards of the 17 and 56. Lacks contrast. Sigma 56mm 2.4 suburb lens. Perfect for portraits. Amazingly sharp. Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 is on my Christmas list. Tamron 70-180. 7:45 The Sigma 85mm D1.4 DG DN Art is a good lens and I would say better than the Sony 85mm F1.4 GM, or the smaller Sony 85mm F1.8, but within the Sony Full Frame E mount options there are certainly more impressive lenses including: 1. Sony 135mm F1.8 GM, 2. Sony 35mm F1.4GM, 3. Sony 50mm F1.2 GM, and the 4. Sony 20mm F1.8 G. Hi Arthur I'm getting myself A6400 for Christmas and I can't decide whether to purchase it with 18-135mm kit lens or to go for sigma 18-50mm lens. I'm doing a bit of travelling around country, most of the time spent on car shows/meets bit of landscape aswell, any tips or recommendations. Thanks

I’m new to photography and videography, looking forward to purchase my first camera, the sony zv-e10 without the kit lens. I wonder which lens should i get first, the sigma 16mm 1.4 or the sigma 18-50 2.8, i wanna use my camera for personal use and short films. I’d be glad if anyone could give me an advice.

I really want a Telephoto lens. I still love my Tamron 17-70mm. I also picked up the Lowa lens from your recommendation this year. I got a few real-estate gigs with it.

Hey Arthur great video man! I subbed and started watching some of your older vids for reviews! I have a question, jus having a newborn while trying to build a streaming setup on a budget I was able to get my first camera! I got the Sony ZV-E10 and currently hunting the best budget lens with the lowest aperture?! Looking at Amazon i would love your opinion on the newest or best low budget one. Neewer x TTadtisan x 7artisan x Meike x or the Yongnuo yn50mm (only budget auto/manual focus)?!? Help a brother out 😅

Would love to see a review on that 85mm apc-s sigma.. that's a unique length which i know produces good photos and is awesome for portrait work. On a side note.. could you do a video with the 3rd party lenses on sony regarding continuous shoot facility.. I understand on Sony.. they physically limit the camera if you are not using a native sony lens on speed on frame rate to 15fps on the shutter max.. regardless of the camera model

hi arthur, i had sigma 16mm and 56mm for my a6400. i am planning to buy sigma 18-50mm, do you think it is worth to swap those 2 lenses?
@owenfriedrich911
@owenfriedrich911 2 жыл бұрын
I had the 16mm but sold it when I got the 18-50. I love the flexibility in focal length with the zoom and not having to change lenses. I still have the 56mm for portraits though.
@ArthurR
@ArthurR 2 жыл бұрын
You can get away with swapping the 16mm and the 30mm, but indoors you may have to add some good lighting. The 56mm is a portrait performer, and the difference between 2.8 and 1.4 with portraits is huge, so it’s hard to let that lens go.

@@ArthurR Don't you think 56mm on a crop sensor is limiting? What would you use for a new baby on the way? Is the 30mm F 1.4 too close. If so I May keep my Rokinon 12mm for ultra wide angle, get the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 for walk around and then Sigma 56mm for low light indoor baby shots etc. However the 30mm is a good walk around walk around lens.

Hi, what you think about the Sigma 24-35mm f2 (Full Frame Lens) on Sony Apsc 6400 .. is it possibe ? It would make it to a 36-56mm FF equivalent with f2 Stop (for good bokeh) ! I Wanne replace my 56mm f1.4 Prime and this would Cover the Sigma 35 & 56mm apsc primelenses and still have good bookeh. would it be better to buy the Sony mount Version or is there a benefit to buy the Canon FF Lens Version and use it With a speedbooster to get the extra F Stop (so F1) ?! Yeah its 940gramm but i dont need to Switch it all the time on a Gimbal and have 2 Prime lenses in one With good bookeh (good for weedings and Shootings where you have to be quick). Just need to know Is Autofocus working With Sony 6400 With both Versions (E mount & Canon mount With speedbooster) ? If yes this is a must have Lens for Sony apsc cameras for me

I have watched you for so so long. I watched your video on the samyang 35 2.8 and purchased it before seeing this video. I have the A6600. I have purchased the sigma 30 1.4 that im loving and thinking I should return the samyang? I also had the sony 50 1.8. do most people have a 30 and a 50? I used to love the 50 but I'm leaning toward the 30 1.4 now.

I had A6400 with FE 50mm f1.8 I'm looking for wide angle lens for my next lens, so I'm thinking to get Sigma 16mm. But then Sigma 18-50mm is coming and I'm confused on picking which lens to get. Since I like zoom lens versatility but I also like the prime lens sharpness and bokeh. FYI, in Indonesia, Sigma 16mm is around $410 if converted to usd and Sigma 18-50mm is around $635 so quite a big difference. So which do you think should I get?

Hi Arthur - I have the 16mm, 30mm and 56mm f1.4 Sigmas. Do you think it is worth getting the new 18-50mm f2.8? Just feel there is too much overlap.

If you are fine with swapping lenses you really can’t beat the IQ of the trio. I got tired of switching lenses so I got the 18-50 and sold my 16. No regrets and love the flexibility of having a zoom. I still have the 56mm though and don’t ever see myself selling that.

Love your video! Great selection. Would you compare Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 ($899) to Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens ($949 EDU pricing on B&H)? I thought Sigma 24-70mm is better. Even Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN ($799) is more compact and cheapter than Tamron 28-75mm; the picture is sharper as well.

Regarding the sigma 1.4 85mm, I think the Sony 90mm macro G is significantly sharper. The 90 is one of the sharpest lenses ever made across all lenses in history. Curious, have you tried it out? I ask because you, more than any other sony YTers I have seen, care about optics, specifically sharpness. Always excited when I get a notification that you've posted a video :)

I have tried the 90mm! It is very sharp, it would be an interesting comparison - i bet they are close. But the Sigma 1.4 is remarkably sharp at F1.4, which is what makes it incredible.
