Top 10 Special Forces list was created according the quantity of successfully done missions (although most of them are very classified), length of the training and of course the quality of equipment they use. mmmm the United States has 3x more people in our military then the next country that's in 2nd place. So, in reality the United States should be superior to any other country. Yes spetsnaz has better hand to hand combat and pain tolerance, but we don't fight majority of the war on our hands and knees do we? The SAS are the most experienced modern day SF Group in the world. Formed during the second world war do the research, many of the worlds elite are based on the SAS tactics and to some extent may have honed some skills. To be fair many countries have very formidable elite units but never put the Special Air Service second to anyone. We here are all patriotic towards our respective countries as you should be but for me SAS are the best. Just my opinion.

Obviously people are going to put national pride before facts. The SAS is and always will be #1, why? They have more combined experience than all of the rest put together, their tactics are copied and adopted worldwide, they were one of the first military special forces groups to adopt counter terrorist roles. I classified NSG only for terrorist encounters .If you want to know more about indian commandos i will explain, indian air force directly controls Garud Commandos.Indian navy controls MARCOS coammandos,PARA commandos are controlled by Indian army. Special Frontier force(SEF) this wing is controlled by RAW(India's external intelligence agency).GHATAK force this troops are mainly using for spontaneous frontier action ,they are also called as "shock troops" this troop also controlled by indian army. at last, NSG commandos are controlled by Indian Prime minister .NSG commandos elected from Indian defense and special class training for encountering.I don't want to prove my indian commandos are superior. There's no Special Forces stronger than the other, Each SF around the world has its own speciality..... Some of them has more powerfull weapons, some of them has more powerfull tactics, some of them more powerfull people, and harder reqruitment.... The SAS are the best in ww2 they took out entire airfields with 3-4 jeeps packed with vickers and in most modern situations have been able to take entire palaces without a single catultie. The main reason was that they have took part in every war since ww2 same with navy seals but the navy seas for a long period of time were pioneers who would land on a beach blow a few tank traps, mine fields, etc to pieces then retreat back to there small assault boats never truly seeing combat until after Korea. The spetnaz are also said to be some of the best as they have never lost and have serious training, they also served in ww2 as reacon and assault troops but became the best after being able to sneak into German main bases and kill who they needed, the reason there low on the SF list is the amount of catulties they allow for. Not dissing anybody's SF Also sorry for spelling not a strong suit of mine.

Just to prove the SAS positions deserves to be first - operation storm - Oman 1972 - Nine SAS men held off 400 or more enemy soldiers in order to maintain control of an oil supply line that ran through Oman - between them the SAS had only a 25 pounder WWII era gun, a browning anti aircraft gun that fired two rounds at a time, two mortars, a machine gun and their rifles. they held the position until a relief column arrived.

You're right. The best spec ops units in the world are the ones who don't let them advertise themselves. For example, everybody knows the spetsnaz but noone knows russian navy commandos. I am not going to belittle any nations spec ops... When it comes down to it, none of these units want to go against the other. No SAS wants to go against regular US Marines, no DEVGRU/ACE (ST6/Delta) want to go against a regular British military unit. Hell, none of these units even want to go against a regular civilian police SWAT/SRT. There will end up being heavy fire and casualties on both sides. All these units are trained as anti-terrorism units. They are not expecting nor want to fight another Spec Ops unit. It comes down to terrain, knowledge of the battleground/urban environment, support at your disposal, etc... Saying one unit is better over another is ludicrous. Half of these units always end up training together anyways. While I am a former US Marine, British SAS did set the standard. That day has past now. While SAS may be the first, doesn't mean they are the best. They simply set the standard at the beginning and I have nothing but respect for them. They are all good. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. ACE (Delta) and DEVGRU (ST6) are among the best along with all the other Special Operation/Missions. Again, like I said, comparing any of them is nonsense. If you really want to get picky, I would like to believe CIA - SAD - SOG is probably the best as far as most missions/training. They recruit from DEVGRU and ACE. In fact a lot if not most of DEVGRU/ACE missions are done along side SAD. Usually a mission involving ACE/DEVGRU is under CIA control due to the fact it is on foreign soil. The members of the units operating are temporarily transferred to the CIA since it is a civilian agency. Without the temporary transfer, if the members of the unit were caught, it would be considered a "military attack" on a sovereign nations soil by the United States.

Also it should be noted that the FBI's HRT (they are classifed as well) trains with CIA SAD/DEVGRU/ACE. Don't expect to win against those bad asses if you are a criminal or anyone else. :)

Marcos B I have agreed with most of what you said. However, I disagree that the US lacks training. We know little to nothing about ACE/DEVGRU actual training. 99% of the things we see on tv saying and showing "ACE/DEVGRU" I believe they are not really them. They might be SEAL teams and Army Special Forces, but more than likely not ACE/DEVGRU. As far as the interview for video games. Highly unlikely that is them also. One thing that has been said about them is that those individual units alone have a higher military spending allowance than the entire United States Marine Corps budget. That says quite a bit in that statement alone.

A person hiding their face with a narrator saying a disclosed member of ST6 or Delta is coming to us today to tell their story... blah blah blah... is nothing more than our own propaganda. Just because news/govenment tells us a person was caught talking does not mean it really happened. That strategy is used so enemies of the US fall and believe the story of the person talking. That gives them false knowledge about out intelligence and how we gather and operate. I wasn't even remotely close to those units but still a US Marine Infantry. People do not realize that after the formation of the SAS during WW2 of which both Australian and New Zealander's were heavily involved New Zealand was the second country after the Brits to set up such an elite special force closely followed by Australia so she they are good at what they do.

I think JTF2 should be in the top 3, or rightfully so probably 1st or 2nd. They are one of the most highly trained and are also the most secretive. They beat out almost if not all US SF units. They would probably be even with SAS.

There are three principal special force units in the IDF. Sayeret Matkal (Land), Shaldag (Air) and Shayetet 13 (Sea). There are not pictures of Sayeret Matkal or Shaldag in training as their equipment is highly classified. The only pictures you might find from Sayeret Matkal is from recently unclassified operations like the hostage rescue in Entebbe! It's a shame because I have some family that were in these units and looked good. But better to stay secret than the world to know your tactics!

Of course all of these are tough guys and I'm sure Norwegians, Polish and Germans are very good as well but I would line up the battle proven units on the top ranks. All of the rest (other than the 3) are units that regularly engage in combat missions and often operate in hostile territories. And this gives them and experience that you cannot gain in any training or drills..

those soldiers in the pictures aren't Sayeret Matkal. there is no picture of them from the last 10 at least. that unit is the main combat unit of the Military Intelligence Directorate(The main purpose of it is to gather intelligence).
