I think this depends per player. I think HOI3 is for sure a more complicated and strategic game, but that has its pros and cons. Its amazing if you are familiar with the game, but for more casual players, or people who don't want their brains hurting too much, a more simplified and streamlined game like HOI4 is better. Personally I prefer HOI4, because of above reasons, I played 50 hours of HOI3 but never really quite got the hang of it.

Just finished up a game with Poland. formed commonwealth then lucky enough to get Hungry in personal union, and take over most of venice. after integrating hungry, Russia and the ottomans decided to declare two separate wars on me. I had france to help but it wasnt enough and now im just getting picked away every time the truce runs out haha. great game though

PantheraX I dont think you understand, HoI3 is FAR more strategic than HoI4. You go in depth in managing nations as a whole. You dont control the leaders like you do in HoI4, you control the ENTIRE nation, easily HoI3 is the most in depth game in the series and is the most complex as well. HoI4 is the easiest "Grand Strategy" game ive ever played, not saying its fun, just that its strategic value is far less than HoI3.

Its just mods. Not the actual game. If you count in mods, EU4 still trashed it, since you can play as the Romans(Imperium Universalis and Extended Timeline), play in the HRE using it's actual maps(Voltaire's Nightmare), and play as Germany and form the European Union(extended timeline). You even have mods that add more flavours to the game, like Conquest Europa, Expansion of Prussia, Rise of Andalusia and many more. Some mods even made full overhaul of the game, like Voltaire's Nightmare and of course, the best mod I have ever played, MEIOU And Taxes.

What kind of troops he's using, his technology and troop quality, their morale vs yours, land type, the leader's qualities vs yours (maneuver etc etc). That's how you lose, it has happened in history. Bigger forces like Austrians have been cut down by smaller numbered Swiss pikemen when they tried to invade Switzerland.

EU4 should have been waaaaaaay higher! If you really consider the historical part of the game, EU4 is so rich and deep. Playing on a total real world map really gives you the chance to rewrite history by making real historical enemies collide. This game is hard to master at first but that's what make this game so good. There's a infinite number of strategy you could do. Civ5 is a great strategy game, but you don't play on the real world map and leads to historical inaccuracies.

Also, if you download some of the dlc, you can get real world scenarios that you can play through (the fall of Rome, the American civil war, the conquest of the new world, etc) this creates fairly accurate representations of wars throughout history that you can then change and bend the outcomes of. EU4 is definitely more true to history than Civ 5, but civ isn't completely lacking in historical content.

i liked more the game engine of rome or medieval 2 rather than what they did with shogun 2, less bulding in the cities, the siege battle are way simplier (and for me, less fun) the only thing i like more about shogun over medieval 2 are the naval battles and the diplomacy. and while medieval 2 is better than rome, nothing beats the fun of cuting down some barbarians, or the thrill of figthing against greek and makedonian phalanx. Rome 1 had problems, I know. The diplomacy was awful, It wasn't historical accurate. But Rome 2's problems were a whole lot worse, at least the battles In Rome 1 actually worked and weren't a boring static slug fest, the campaign In Rome 2 had features removed that many people liked. You can't keep throwing around nostalgia accusations. Rome 2 was a build up to what was hopefully going to be the best Total War game to date and It's now called the worse by a lot of people, for legit reasons. There's no rose tinted glasses here.

I'll probably buy Attila and Warhammer when they go on sale and after all their DLC and whatever deluxe edition goes on sale on Steam, I'd rather play other games In the meantime as I've been playing Total War since Shogun 1. EDIT: Rome 2's battles will never be fixed because they can't, the unit collision will never be on par with Rome 1 and Medieval 2 due the Rome 2 using the same engine they have been using since Empire, the engine was designed for musket warfare, not melee. It always be bad. Rome 2's UI Is extremely boring and looks more like Windows 10 rather than a Roman setting, go look at Shogun 2's, look how authentic that Is. Rome 2's Is terrible.

Ok, so this is a decent list. If you're going to put in an objective based game such as Company of Heroes, why wouldn't you put in Hearts of Iron. That is a truly world conquering and world changing game to the extreme. Also you left out the Close Combat series that puts you in control of up to 15 squad size elements and battle all parts of World War II from both sides of the war. It was still a good video, just think these two games should be included

I'm going to be honest here and I'm sure I'm going to be crucified for this: I prefer Total War Rome II to Rome Total War, yes it had a very buggy launch but in it's current state it is a much better game than it was at launch, plus I just prefer the options it provides (though I do miss the Family Tree that ended up being reintroduced in Attila).

Civ 5 as your #1?!!! I might agree on one of them, but certainly not 5. Civ 5 was at best a test bed for a lot of half baked concepts. Some worked and some did not. You praise other games from the past, it would seem more likely for Civ 3 or Civ 4 to get the honor. If you like the new directions the Civ series has taken I would have thought that Civ 6 would have been the better choice. Most of Civ 5's concepts have been smoothed out at least. To each their own, I suppose. I do support that you lose a lot of historical accuracy, due to how zany the "historical" leaders act. I like the games that let you re-write history, but I feel the elements need to stay true to themselves. To me it would be like playing a WW2 strategy where Hitler was trying to act like a hero and protect people from the war machines of that era. It just isn't true to the element of the leaders of the war. Changing the fate of the war, that is the sort of thing I think is a lot of fun. I would have put Rome: Total War on top or placed in one of Paradox's Hearts of Iron games. I don't know if it was out when this video was made, but currently, hands down, number 1 should be Stellaris. It is the best 4x space strategy ever made. I don't say that lightly, being a die-hard Master of Orion fan. It is the most accessable Paradox title with a very easy learning curve and a wonderful in depth tutorial robot that will guide you about every element of the game if you want that level of help. It also is nearly a role-playing game for an empire in all the events that can happen from meeting ancient races to having precursor races battle it out and sucking the whole galaxy into the conflict. One late game problem can involve a robot AI uprising too if you take the wrong technologies lol. I highly recommend it.

if the all the features of games comes together,it will be wonderful, for example, use the Crusade kingdom and European universe and Victory2 to make control of you faction, then use the series of Total war to give you a opportunity for conducting every single battle, then use the age of empires to build your land and manage your border combat or make a outpost or have a sudden strikes on you enemy . Well straight to the point just as yours was. Civ 4 and 5 have a different approach and both do well in their own areas. One major pitfall of Civ 4 certainly was the square tile map that made some movements more benefitial than others. Also lets not forget Civ 4 Vanilla was just as bad as Civ 5 Vanilla was. The AI was not up to par and major mechanics were introduced in later expansion just as in Civ 5. Without certain mods Civ 4 is also not as good as without them. Most Civ 4 fanatics that still go on declareing Civ 4 is so much better than 5 only played early Civ 5 and never got into the later version with both expansions, several patches and of course the balance mods. What is a problem for Civ 5 and likly in the long run for Civ 6 as well is that it is much harder to write an AI that can fight with the hex map and limited units per tile rather than just adding up units to a SOD. Still I prefer the hex fields and the unit per tile (one or more depending) system. I would argue the hexfield system alone makes Civ 5 much more interesting in multiplayer. I played many play by e mail games in both Civ 4 and 5 and Civ 5 was certainly much more interesting when it came to warfare. Civ 6 now is certainly better than both Civ 4 and 5 were in their vanilla state!

I love Paradox games and Total War games. Paradox#1 Total War#2. As for the rest on the list, I would say the games are less about controlling history and are more of a love making simulator between building and cursor, where you rapidly click the building to pop out as many babies as you can and then hurl these babies into your opponents walls and buildings hoping they will crumble from the massive weight of their rotting flesh and bones.

Total War all the way for me still. Oriental Empires has been a breath of fresh air and is a future gem for me, severely addicted. Sort of a mix between total war and civ, my 2 favourite franchises. I read that the project director of Oriental Empires was the project director on medieval 2 total war, the attention to historical detail would back that up.
