He worked as a maintenance worker in a Power Plant. He stood 7ft-7½" and about 400 lbs... I had to meet him... Standing next to him, I felt like a 5 year old kid! Taller doesn't mean bigger though. Some of these guys are or were super skinny. Manute Bol is ridiculous. Some consider him to have been the tallest player ever, and he entered the league at a dumbfounding 190 lbs, which would be quite light even for someone a full foot shorter.

Taller doesn't necessarily mean bigger or larger unless the taller individual is heavier. Height is just the dimension that makes up your body. So Shaq would be larger than most or probably all of the players mentioned above.

Good video with one exception. Mark Eaton played for over 10 years, never got hurt and set an alltime shot blocks per game record. One season he averaged over 4.5 blocks per game, winning Defensive player of the year. With Utah he was very successful with Karl Malone and John Stockton. But they got edged out by Kareem(7'3 in shoes) and Magic. He was 7'4 about 290. He would get 10 blocks and 10 points on occasion.

Height alone does not make for a good center plenty of tall freaks could not play at all. It takes heart coordination and athleticism and brains a rare combination. Mark Eaton was another really solid center at 7.4 inches. Not the most amazing but a great shot blocker and rebounder.

Since they started with 7'4, they should have either went with Rik Smits or Ralph Sampson instead of a guy who doesn't play much. I would have went with Smits. He could probably still play in today's open floor game. He was shooting 3's too, as well as dominating the paint. "The Dunkin' Dutchman"

You skipped Mark Eaton...listed at 7'4", played his whole career alongside Stockton & Malone....he was probably 7'5", with very wide shoulders and very long arms. You also skipped 7'4" Rick Smitts....the Dutchman for the Pacers....I think Minute Bol still has the longest wingspan ever....Ralph Sampson also, might have been the most skilled Center, listed at 7'4"

Just FYI, Yasutaka Okayama, a 7-foot-8-inch Japanese basketball player picked 171st overall in the seventh round of the 1981 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, is the tallest player to ever be drafted for the NBA. But he never actually played during a NBA game or made a roster, so he doesn't count. He probably never left Japan.
