For me the key is to always think ahead and take advantage of any extra time to prepare for future meals, whether it be chopping vegetables, shredding cheese, prepping sourdough, etc.

Put those liver items thru a food processor and put it in with the ground beef! It makes it so smoky tasty, like off the grill from a restaurant! That's the ONLY way my family will eat it (as long as they don't know it's in there 😂)

Hey Laura. Great video. As many people realize the value of scratch cooking, it becomes very stressful trying to find an easy, non time sucking daily activity. So many ppl are struggling with few free hrs and stressers. Your video gives great practical ways of getting closer to scratch cooking. Just a little bit of prep work like taking the meat out of the freezer can make a huge difference. I invested in an 8 qt instapot so I am able to put frozen lrg cuts of meat in the pot and have them ready for dinner in just a couple hours. Ty for posting the video❤

Hi Laura, I hate meal plans also. I do keep a well stocked pantry but I don't thaw my heat days ahead. I love this idea. Ty I'm gonna work on the meat part this next week. I just hadn't thought to do several meals at a time of meat! Duh!!!! TYVM Laura.

As a fellow mom who enjoys cooking but hates being bound to a meal plan, I find that defrosting a giant bunch of meat weekly or twice weekly is the biggest help. I also try to prep my veggies weekly as well. And I love to do a “Sourdough Day” weekly where I take my starter out of fridge and start many things (pizza dough, bagels, multigrain sandwich bread, artisan loaf, crackers, buns) and sour to the point when they can be put in oven and then put them into fridge. I started doing this in the Fall because we have 5 kids playing sports and I found it so much easier to just have stuff ready to go in fridge .

Avocados freeze. Cube or slice them and put them in the freezer when you have extras or can get them cheap that way you can keep them longer and you have them on hand. They thaw perfectly and you can use them for a side or quac whenever you need them.

I really enjoyed all of your tips and advice. I do check frig, freezer and pantry to see what I already still have; then make my grocery list. I do a meal plan to make sure I have everything to make a certain amount of meals; but not for any certain days.

There’s just two of us but I like to prep three meals on one morning…giving me less work each day making a daily meal. I use instant pot to cook potatoes, Usually 5 lbs…then I can make whatever kind of potato we need and I take what I don’t use up and mash and freeze it. I bought ten lbs of hamburger and tomorrow it’ll be made into meatballs, cooked ground meat for recipes and meat loaf. I cook eggs in the instant pot for snacks, salads and mixed into potatoes. Sausages and ground sausage gets cooked up at once and divided for meals. I just find cooking in the morning leaves the day free to accomplish tasks. When at a loss for what to make I go to my prepped pantry of home canned foods I did during the cold months. Having an instant pot, air frier, small convection / microwave oven and electric skillet saves time when I can make several meals at one time…..but that’s just what I always did while raising six kiddos.

These are great tips Laura, thank you for sharing them. I have an odd question. I notice you had a ceramic baking dish and a Pyrex baking dish on the counter. Do you find as the Pyrex ages they are more difficult to keep clean or a film develops on it? I am thinking of converting to all ceramic type baking dishes because of this.

Great video…this is how I operated as a younger stay at home mom…my adult children do not seem to do this now though. The “having meat defrosted “was always my number one suggestion, and like you if you get a pile of meat out to put in the refrigerator in the beginning of the week, you have so many options as the week goes on. The other big hint I always had was “know in the morning what you’re planning for dinner that night”…that way as you have moments in the day you can do bits of meal prep as the day goes on. Question for readers …how do you keep sweet potatoes from oxidizing ( and turning black) so quickly when cutting them…does it have to do with freshness of the potatoes?
@juliequates9529
@juliequates9529 Жыл бұрын
Yes....old sweet potatoes will oxidize and get black spots. Fresh ones, I can peel, chop and keep in the fridge for much longer.
