They should put a MC Stu NPC permanently at starfleet academy. Pretty sure he's single handedly teaching all the cadets.

Lol...if we let him go to new starfleet academy as professor, starfleet members have to thinks to respect for traditional academic rules. But if let him as starfleet commander or senior science officer, we needn't to take his courses as students but peer to peer study and to reads his papers and publications by peer reviews. Then we'll save more time to neighboring constellations to know new starfleet updates.

These are good tips. Here are a couple of others: - Your captain's career (Tactical, Engineer or Science) does not dictate either the Skills you choose nor the ship you command. In other words, Engineers don't have to focus on the Engineering part of the skill tree nor fly cruisers. Captain career ONLY governs what Captain abilities you have. - Even if you don't plan on crafting, develop all of your R&D schools to level 15. You will unlock additional traits, some of which will be critical for certain types of builds. My suggested order is Beams, Projectiles, Science, Kits, and the rest in any order you like. If you plan on doing an Exotic Science build, put Science first and Beams after Kits. - Take advantage of every event. They usually take 15-30 minutes of your time, but provide you with some neat rewards. Some of those rewards have gone on to become part of high end DPS Chase builds. - Speaking of the DPS Chase, it is absolutely unnecessary. None of the content is designed around the huge DPS values you may hear about. That whole community exists to push STO's build meta to its limits. Don't worry about competing at that level. Well, unless you enjoy learning the intracies of the underlying mechanics and got some extra scratch to pay for it. - Don't spend money on the game until you know enough about the game to make an informed purchase. There are plenty of free resources available to help you make a build that can complete all content in the game.

Star Trek has featured exploration as a major part of Starfleet's mission from the very first series. Because of that, my theory is that STO has been designed so that players must explore the game to learn how to play it, and develop their own techniques and tactics along the way. Most of what I've learned about how to play has been from online discussions and KZbin channels like MCStu's. STO's own documentation (i.e. the wiki) only tells you what's in the game, what ships, equipment, species, skills and traits are available, but it doesn't explain how to combine and use them.

The vendor on DS9 right beside the tailor will give you more. There's one on new Romulus at the staging area and for Romulans inside the command centre, also beside the tailor - which might actually be a pattern. Because the one on Qo'noS is also beside the tailor (the vendor on ESD is also next to the tailor).

As for other really useful tips, probably not super useful for starting players but is useful generally, ship loadouts are HUGE. They are such a QoL improvement, having a loadout for your main ship makes it moving stuff over to a new ship when you didn't want it to an easy fix because you just go back to the original ship and load the loadout and it moves everything back. If you fly multiple ships the same thing applies. Speaking of you can switch your active starship while in any local or sector space zone so you don't have to go to a shipyard and ready starship to switch between your vessels.

Faster method for getting new ship items off the ship and deleted: - Drydock the ship - This dumps everything on the ship to your inventory - Open Inventory, click on Replicator (on bottom of window) (opening Inventory causes Ships window to close) - Click on Recycle (top of window) - Scroll down to the items and double click left button on them - double tap spacebar to acknowledge the pop-up confirmation - repeat for all items (double click, double tap) - Should only take a few seconds to go through all of the items

I’m still kinda in the overwhelmed stage. A friend tried to get me into STO a few years ago and it was just too freakin much. She loaded me up with a buncha good gear and kinda jumped me passed a few of the learning steps I should have taken on my own. She also assumed I knew way more than I did about mmos and talked over my head. And didn’t make clear that a lot of what she was trying to show me wasn’t that important in the beginning. I needed those baby steps. I had fun playing with her “holding my hand”. But when I tried to play on my own I had no idea where to start or what was important at my low level. I picked it back up recently and started over on my own. I still want to learn as much as I can (I still have no idea exactly what TFO’s are or how they work. Same with Fleets, Events, etc) but I’m just working through episodes solo and trying to get a handle on it on my own. Thanks for making these videos for us complete noobs!

I always keep Midnight slotted for my ESD quick travel. Just need to talk to the NPC’s first when initiating the mission but once you’ve beamed up to your ship, you have direct access to ESD and also easy access to Herald ships as you can just go into the mission instead of Sol if needed. Stormbound is great for Tholian ships and if you have the romulan drone ship hangar pet, it will adapt itself to whichever energy type the enemy uses so the mission is also great for tetryon damage in space. But mainly, easy to get 30 Tholian ships in the mission. Renegades regret or Quark’s lucky seven, free transwarp to DS9 Mine Enemy is very close to Dyson Sphere so basically free transwarp to Dyson Sphere, Mine Enemy is also probably the best mission for harvest materials endeavors as you get 3 in space before even beaming down to the moon, and the ground part has like 4-5 on it if you play the whole mission. Spoils of war, free transwarp to the Badlands Just some of my “Rey’s list of efficient STO-ing” (I really should make a list or even video on it... If it’s something I’m good at, it’s getting around fast and do endeavors very efficiently)

Send the '/fpsgraph 1' in the chat (without the quotes) to get a graphical representation of how smooth the rendering is working on your side. If it's a constant level way above 30fps, then the problem is not your PC. I once had stuttering and a saw tooth graph. A combination of limiting the framerate to 60fps and updating the graphics drivers solved it. Oh, and check the graphics / display options to make sure it's using the dedicated GPU and not by accident the CPU-integrated one. Just in case.

I have request for build video. So I returned back to STO after really long time being inactive (had to learn what are ship traits) and was poking around looking videos learning all the new things started grinding the new factions and having good time all around. But I have issue with current crit is king on everything meta (exotics, torps, energy). So i dont want to join to that same crit boat and was asking around and seems there is build that might work for me but i dont know how to build it so my build question is how would you build mostly Support build? (preferably on carrier) I love playing with other people and helping them to survive and do more damage is more to my preference.

Tip for new players and you're telling them to spend their dil on re-engineering their gear? Also, the power levels one. Is it the first or second mission in this game (as a Fed) where you fight that shapeshifter's very powerful (compared to you at the time) Undine warship? If you're going to give tips to newbies, you need to get out of your DPS-elitist mentality and actually help them with the sort of content they'll be playing. Go take a T1 ship into that Diplomatic Orders mission, see how max weapon power works out for you. (I'm not talking about a T6 ship you've put on a cadet, with six consoles and all your best crafted gear - go in naked, like a newbie, and experience that mission with minimal shield power) Also bear in mind your experience compared to that of a new player. A lot of the other tips were just things everyone picks up over time as well. This list could be much better.

Faster moving about on the foot TIP... There are weapons that have a 'RUN' ability attached to them allowing you to run faster than normal. These are easily found on the Exchange, and can be pretty cheap. If I cheap one isn't available, simply check back an hour or two later, at the end of your session or next time you pay. If you equip this as your second weapon, you can swop to it when moving around space docks, etc. It's easily replaced with a 'proper' secondary weapon when you play missions, etc, if need be. I would suggest a pistol-type weapon as you move faster with a smaller weapon than a large one (as is typical in all games). TIPS for making money for newcomers!!! Good news... this is the easiest game to make money in. The Exchange allows you to buy and sell pretty much everything. And typical of any game this one is full of impatient gamers and people clueless about markets, gamer purchasing habits or making money, and they're easily exploited if you have a little patience and prove to be a little smarter than the average STO player! Before going into a bit of detail about money a few things worth noting that were not covered in this video. Your goal with regards progression and the point of acquiring any of the in-game currencies will be to build a collection of gear and equipment that make your character and your ship/s more deadly, making the game easier and more fun to play. The three key 'currencies' in the game are Energy Credits, which is the currency used in the Exchange, and what you'll want to make lots of in order to purchase a large majority of the gear that you'll ultimately want. The other 'currency' is Dilithium; acquired by playing the game's missions; story (likely solo) or public coop missions. This is the second most valuable as it has a number of uses, the most important being to exchange for Zen which is then used to purchase a large selection of the ships in the game. Dilithium can be used to upgrade but there's an efficient and a less efficient way of doing this. The better use of Dilithium to upgrade gear or weapons is to buy Phoenix Prize Packs (available in Special Items accessible from the Dilithium Store which is found in the window where you 'refine' Dilithium; of which you can only do a limited amount each day). Buy the pack of ten for a small discount. The final currency is the hardest to acquire, Lobi. As ships in this game can be key to acquiring abilities (specifically Starship Traits) or specific gear (consoles or weapons) I would suggest concentrating on the acquiring gear from the other areas of the game with Lobi-items acquired as and when you have the currency to purchase them (if the items can't be acquired by other means, ie, the Exchange) with Lobi ships, along with any Lock box ships being luxury items you'll eventually own at a later date (unless you're willing to spend a huge amound of real money to speed up acquiring these; and if that is how you intent to play, there's little point reading any further!!!). One more thing worth mentioning. Starting off, you're unfamiliar with everything, and likely aren't sure which direction you want to go with regards ship type, weapons and ship equipment. I would suggest prior to making a decision on this start watching videos on ship set ups, here on KZbin, to help guide you on which direction you want to go. Once you've decided, search out videos from the major (and most knowledgeable content creators) and start to make notes on what equipment/ship each is recommending. You'll start to build a knowledge of that particular set up, and importantly will identify gear and kit that's common amongst all of their recommendations and start to build a shopping list of what you'll want to work towards acquiring in the game. Use the STO wiki and make a note of where every piece of kit or equipment comes from. Your 'shopping list' will likely have items from every source within the game. Some will be cheap, quick and easy to acquire, while some will not. Work towards acquiring the easiest, quickest items to instantly make a massive improvement to your character and/or ship. And for every new item you acquire limit your resources on upgrading it to the maximum initially until your progression to acquire all that you want starts to slow down for the more expensive to purchase or harder to acquire items. Sorry, this has gone off-subject a little, but it's worth noting that there are essentially four areas of the game that will supply everything you need. One of those will inevitably be in the Reputation section. It's split into several sections of which each needs to be 'progressed' in order to likely purchase what you need. Watch videos to learn more about them, but key to speeding up your overall progression will be to concentrate on the areas that will supply you with items you need. This is an extremely slow game to progress in, so concentrating only on areas that specifically benefit you will speed up your progression. There is inevitably a most efficient and quickest route to your progression and acquiring what you desire, so it's worth being aware of which areas of the game, and which sections you're best to spend your time on. OK, finally, making money. The one area that you will inevitably end up in order to acquire specific gear you've identified will be the Exchange. This may also be the place to acquire items that are otherwise hidden away in Lock Boxes. As these are a random gamble, I would suggest considering buying some (if not all) of the Lock Box items that you can from the Exchange. If you use the Exchange intelligently to make money you can speed up your progression and acquire items that would otherwise require far more time or lots more resources (whether in-game currency or, if you're that way inclined, real money! Again, if you're going to throw lots of real money at this game, do yourself a favour buy lock box keys, just sell those and stop reading these tips as they're of no use to you!). A few tips on making money on the Exchange. First up, it's mostly dominated by some incredibly clueless gamers, who either seem determined to slow down their attempts to make money and others, rather selfishly, or completely lack the ability to understand how a market works, and how others buy virtual items! A key point that limits everyone with the Exchange is a limited number of 'slots' in which to sell items. The work-around to this is to have multiple characters. Regardless though, you still have a limit on the amount of items you can sell so it's sensible to try and maximise the sales slots available to you. A few things to note... everything in the game has a value, and everything will sell. The question is how much profit you make and how quickly you can sell the items. Incidentally, don't listen to anyone who suggests "you can't make money on the exchange" or "it's just dominated by no-lifers and hardcore gamers". Both may be true, but no one can dominate every area of the market, and no on can keep an eye on the market all the time. Part 2 follows below...
@quantumjet253
@quantumjet253 2 жыл бұрын
Part 2.... Something that's worth noting; as with any 'market'... money makes money. Don't constantly spend everything you have in your endeavour to buy all that you need as quickly as you can afford it. For example, if you're attempting to acquire the best/content creator recommended gear and there's a very limited supply of it in the Exchange; consider buying it in order to sell it at a profit, to eventually buy the item again when it inevitably arrives on the Exchange at a lower price! Whatever the price of anything on the Exchange now; it's all but guaranteed to be appear in future at a lower price, and is equally guaranteed to sell for more at a later date too. The Exchange isn't realistic in terms of market prices; in fact it's utterly ridiculous as you can see with identical items at both end of the scale being wildly different prices. But the outrageously unrealistic nature of the pricing from one day to the next is exactly why this is the easiest way to make money (probably) in any game. Patience and a little intelligence is the most valuable asset in your attempt to progress quickly and efficiently in terms of requiring virtual-money, and the good news is, very few using the exchange have either; which makes it so easy to profit from. Get familiar with the Exchange, certainly with the areas where you'll be looking to purchase items from. If you start to craft/buy and sell items beyond what you're specifically after, always be prepared to leave that market alone if it becomes overrun and dominated by the (there's not better way to put it...) dumb players who seem determined to make money as slowly as possible. They will move on or give up eventually, and then it'll be worth re-entering that market again to continue making a healthy worthwhile profit. Never obsess over one particular market area in the Exchange, be prepared to hold off and wait out any ridiculously-priced times - patience and a little familiarity of the specific markets you start to trade in is far more profitable long-term than impatience and an incapability of understanding how gamers buy in-game gear. Players will likely pay far more than the current state of any overly low priced items; and importantly don't blindly buy stuff they don't want just because its cheap!!! But everyone has a limit at the higher end of the price range, and no one will purchase items they simply can't afford, and few are interested in being outright ripped off with stupid prices. Something, sadly, the majority of the dumbest STO players have failed to grasp. Seriously, with just the smallest level of common sense, patience and intelligence it's incredibly easy to make money in this game and that absolutely equates to faster progression, and acquiring a large amount of the best gear you'll see recommended in content creator videos, and what you'll eventually want to acquire. And if none of that is an option then just throw money at the game, and use the market without any thought and you can slow down your progression and cost yourself lots of unnecessary cost!!!

Something I learned recently - and correct me if I'm wrong: If you're running a space build with gear that doesn't increase your ships weapons energy cap - my surgical strikes build doesn't - and the value max value is hard-locked at 125 still, you can actually lower your power a bit until that maximum starts to decrease from 125, then raise it to where it sits there perfectly and lock it. This can give you a fair few points to redistribute to Shields/Engines, with - as far as I can tell - no negative effects to your DPS.

Are there only three rows max for ground bars, and what is your skill at "a6"? Also, I never recycle. I take my time to go to a vendor and sell it. Over 12 years, I've certainly gained a lot more EC with that, it paid off to get one or an other really good T6 ship. :)

The so-called "rubberbanding" is due to poor network connection. Packets get lost and the server and the client disagree on where you are. Then the server forces you back to where it thinks you should be. Sometimes, it also happens when an instance is very crowded (like during the Summer Festival on Risa), but that's the exception.

Wish I would have seen this 2 months ago. Cardassians have a damage feedback ability that is far better than anything you can do. Voth do too. Chances are that you are killing yourself. For DEW builds, it's hard ot to get splattered. Pop Reverse Shield Polarity and Hazard Emitters and hope for the best. If you have more potent healing abilities like Protomatter console from the Hokuun or DPRM, you might activate those as well. Otherwise, look to the standard hull tanking elements like Resistances and the Stamets-Tilly 2-piece. Just try to weather the damage. Science and torp builds are a little easier to use against them. No feedback on those powers.

When you're trying to strip the standard issue junk off a ship, it's a lot faster to just double-click each piece (which will de-equip it), then vendor them (if your inventory isn't a mess). They sell for 0, but it's WAAAAAAAAAY faster than right clicking, finding "discard" then clicking "yes". ^_^

The ship equipment vendor at the shipyard on ESD pays well for gear too. They pay 50% of the value listed on the item's tooltip. That's a handy way to tell if another vendor is scamming you. (grin)

Hack 1: instead of unequipping new ships. Just put them in the Dry Dock. Then pull it right back out. All the unwanted items automatically unequip. Easy peasey.

Thank you for making these videos. I remember getting this game when it first came out and I was one of those that was just slotting every new item that a came across as I played. I dropped the game a year later but came back with a new character in 2022. Your Videos have been a great help in my game play and helped me finish missions that a) I just got destroyed and b) helped me know more about the in and outs of the game. I do have one questions are you able to add more slots (IE weapon slots) to a ship or do you have to get another ship that has more slots to equip stuff. Keep up the good work

There is a way to increase your Ground Trays to more than 3. I do it, because I play with a Spam Bar on my Ground character (have it set to Tab), and I like having different pet options when I'm on the ground. If I remember correctly, it's like loading a Keybind file. First, you save your HUD settings (options, hud). Then You edit the ui_settings file with notepad (located in the installation folder \live directory), and look for "Hud Options" then "ground." There will be an option that says "Traymode". I play in 4k, so I have it set to 5. Save that as a different filename, then load it. I believe the command is /ui_load filename. Hope this helps!

you do realize that those of us that are new players, we don't have all the stuff you have. we don't need to learn how to swap ships, we only have 1. we don't have enough items needed for multiple trays. While these seem like they would be good for a couple weeks into the game, us beginners are looking for stuff like how to control the ship, how to swap weapons and gear for character and the only starter ship we have. Also, tips for navigating. other than that, nice video and I will come back to it after I advance some

I've been playing STO regularly for the past year and find your videos really informative, especially the reputation builds and ones like this. I first learned of STO by watching Brent Justice years ago. My question to you is how to configure the message pop-ups when using an ultrawide monitor (I have a Legion 44"). "Take Items" or messages either appear dead center or way off to the right side of the screen. I still have much to learn. thanks!

When you get a new ship and you want to quickly delete all the free stuff it comes with, quickly dry dock it and everything will go into your inventory. You can then use the replicator to recycle everything in your inventory quickly since its worth 0 ec anyway.

For Sol free transwarp, use the mission "Midnight". Complete the first portion of the mission but don't complete it. It's labeled as "Our Final Hour". I also use this for Iconian ships for Endeavors when I can't get one of the TFOs to come up for me. The mission can also be used for destructible torpedoes Endeavors too.
