Thank you for this. I’ve tried playing STO about 3 times in the past decade but have given up each time without getting very far. Most recently it was after an extended absence and everything was so different. I had no idea what to do and all the videos I found were outdated. I was part of a lot of STO communities and tried asking there but learned how unsupportive and unwelcoming the STO community is to new players. All my questions got downvoted to oblivion with the only replies basically being variations of “git gud”. I even got banned from one community for saying, in a conversational thread, that I wasn’t interested in Discovery content. Literally, that was the comment. I realized the community has no interest in being welcoming so it’s very refreshing to see your video giving such helpful advice. I’m seriously becoming tempted to try it again.

Ten months later, I wonder how long nspacemonkey stuck around. I just came back to Star Trek Online ten years after buying a lifetime subscription. I have probably played 6 hours in that ten years. I am *trying* to get back into it, but the ridiculous complexity of the ship equipment and the utterly and COMPLETELY broken costume system is ... an obstacle.

Overall, I appreciate what you are doing here. Too much of KZbin is from the high-end perspective. There are a couple of notes to keep in mind though. Power Transfer Rate is basically the EPS skill. The higher that is, the quicker your Weapons Sub-System recovers energy. The quicker you recover Weapons energy, the higher your DPS. Taking Improved EPS and using the Reinforced Armaments console should be all the Poeer Transfer you will need. The diminishing returns on Resistances makes stacking them beyond 25-30 resting values compromise on other facets of the build. If you are rumning a T5-U/T6 Cruiser, the Mastery package gives you 25 Resistance in every category. Combine that with Trellium-D and you are set. If you are not running a Cruiser mastery package, you can make up for that lack by taking the Hull Plating skill. Once you have a decent "resting" resistance value, Honored Dead (Exchange for Fed), Ablative Shell and/or Repair Crews can stack up a few more points and bonuses to healing as well. Keeping global cooldown on Polarize Hull is an interesting concept. I would do that more for its immunity to certain control effects. Hull Restoration is as important as Resistances. At the very least, Engineering Team, Hazard Emitters and Science Team can keep you up in all but the most intense fire situations. Another survival consideration is Threat. You touched upon that briefly with Fire at Will versus Beam Overload. A good Threat control system will really help with Survival. Pseudo-Submission is an excellent trait to make the bad guys forget you are there. If you run an Intel ship, Intelligence Team is a good budget method. Specialization seating is really useful. For example, you can roll all of the above Team skills into Rally Point Marker. Your Endeavor there has Command seating. Specialization seating and abilities is knowledge I regret not knowing for so long. I think those entering the end game should be introduced to those concepts very early on. Overall, a solid intro video.

If you done a lot of the previous events or have the Dilithium to buy Phoenix Prize Packs there's a crap ton of consoles that boost Antiproton damage, at one point I had 11 consoles on my ship that boosted Antiproton damage and I was using the Herald Antiproton weapons, and I got into DPS Diamond with that build doing over 167k DPS. Now I will say this, from my personal experience the vast majority of DPS seems to come from Personal Space Traits, until I started getting the better personal space traits I was doing somewhere between 50k to 60k DPS when I started investing in the more expensive Personal Space Traits then I started doing over 80k DPS, and when I started buying C-Store ships to get certain Starship traits that really pushed me over the edge to where I could finally do over 150k DPS. The first time I broke 30k DPS I was using the Risian Luxury Cruiser (T5), with Advanced Fleet Antiproton Dual Beam Banks in the front, and Advanced Fleet Antiproton Turrets in the back, and using the full Adapted Borg reputation set. I didn't even know how to parse back them I knew my DPS because someone else had parsed and shared the results in the chat. I really loved that ship back then, it was kind of like a hybrid cruiser / escort, it didn't have the full durability of a cruiser, and it didn't have the full maneuverability of an escort, it was a good balance between the two ship types, better maneuverability than a regular cruiser, and better durability than an escort. I'm currently using the Lexington, but before that, the ship I initially broke 100k DPS in was the Tucker Miracle Worker Cruiser. To anyone who doesn't do every event I recommend changing your mind on that because one of the summer events you could get the Breen Plesh Tral Heavy Raider, I seen that as the reward and thought, "that's just a Breen ship, I'm not interested," so I didn't do that event and now I regret it, that ship's Starship trait (Cold-Hearted) is used in a lot of high DPS builds. Despite not having that starship trait I'm still able to do over 167k DPS, but it could've gotten to that level of DPS a lot earlier if I had that starship trait.

Thought I'd check this out to see if it would help my buddy with his builds and I think it might! I've been playing for roughly 9-10 years now, plenty of stumbling along the way! Hell, I started my first serious build by thinking I needed to squeeze as many sets into it as possible. Took me a while to realize that mixed energy builds can be a bit on the weak side even with cannon consoles, of course nothing in the game mentions that and I thought things that came in sets must be god tier.

I would think 2 warp nacelle for travel with another 1 or 2 to create a constant warp field for weapons, defense, and tactical as those not in use are collecting entropic energy. While running two cores and most if not all systems and subsystems powered by the entropy collection.

Using the reputation weaponry I often use two of the same type like the Lukari ones are in two types polaron and plasma if I use plasma I might pair it with the Romulan Reputation weapon set. If I use polaron lukari weapons I use the Gamma quadrant space set with it as well as both are polaron and consoles from both buff polaron weapons. I also have on that same build the quantum and discovery rep sets on the same build and they are both buffed from the console from the Gamma Quadrant reputation. The quantum set obtained from the Mission Sunrise 3 piece gives you the quantum destabilization beam which does phaser damage as well as drains power from the target. The reward set I use with my plasma build and the Lukari full deck shields, engines, warp core and deflector makes you pretty tanky and I use that on my polaron and phaser build. My build I on a 3 3 ship I use one torpedo fore and aft and a 4 4 ship I use 2 torpedo tubes fore and aft with my arbiter battlecruiser which is a 5 3 ship I have 2 torpedo fore and 1 aft. I love using omni directional beam banks in at least one slot to make it that I have no deadzones around the ship that no weapons fire on a target. That is probably not what pros use but it works for me. I don't do PVP so I don't know how my builds fair against players.

That is not a Fleet warp core, it's a regular Plasma-Integrated Warp Core, the Fleet versions do not have 100% power transfer rate and the fleet version also say that they are either, "Advanced Fleet Plasma-Integrated Warp Core," or, "Elite Fleet Plasma-Integrated Warp Core," that one just says, "Plasma-Integrated Warp Core," which should be found as a drop or on the Exchange. If I remember correctly I believe the Fleet versions only do 66% power transfer rate, but they do give other bonuses which actually do make them better.

I’m looking into a phaser build and check yours out, where I’m getting lost at is that I’m at the very beginning and don’t have exactly what you have I’m asking if u can make a beginner guide on what you need on the ship at the very beginning for phaser build... for example I see you have a shield with a name I can’t find on my R&D ... now I can see this are upgraded but let me say it like this idk witch shields, Deflector and don’t know what exactly I should be more focused on for the science console because the I see what I need for the aft’s and Fore weapons because the names, Now for Engineering I’m more focused for all that to give me resistance. Idk I think I get you but then sometimes I just get lost
@aidanmpearce48213 жыл бұрын
Think I know what you're getting at, this video is amazing as a general guide but if you want to copy it exactly then it's a little hard. I would strongly suggest to look into the reputation system and get the discovery set to start. Some of the items in the video are Fleet related which can be a bit harder to come by especially since you need to be in the right fleet that has the right upgrades and you'll probably have to contribute to the fleet for a bit before they'll let you buy things. Reputations are your friend for now. I spent the longest time with the whole Borg Omega Rep set for my engines, shields and deflector and didn't have too much trouble staying alive. Honestly warpcore isn't the most important part of the build as long as you have a decent one that's at Mark XV, people mainly go after specific ones in the more advanced builds. Weapons are mostly user preference, just make sure they're all the same energy type for your first build. Consoles are based on what weapons you pick and eventually what sets you want to incorporate. Start by filling the tactical slots with boosters for the weapon energy you picked, Science slots are mainly used for consoles from sets although you could start with control and drain boosters, and Engineering slots can be used for set pieces or anything that boosts resistances. I know this is a lot sorry, hope it breaks things down a bit better for you though!

@leefoster41333 жыл бұрын
Don't think I have commented on this one yet. I don't like phaser and I avoid it. Normally, it's plasma and there is a ton of it for plasma and disruptors. It's not so bad even for polaron or tetryon either. I in fact pull anti-proton above phasers. It's a very personal bias and it's grounded in math. I have one science captain that has it on whatever that event ship is called with the agony phasers. But it's really a mess around ship that I don't plan to use in TFOs. I know you and the other fellow I watch love to get ships and strip the consoles off of them to use else where. It doesn't sit well with me as a set is a set and should be a set. I do have this problem on my disruptor builds as I do use the mission rewards currently. The Resonant set, Nausicaan set and Martok set; you just can''t have it all. This is one of the rare exceptions I do; do. As on disruptor ship it has a mix of all of that but atleast 2 of it is present. When I start getting enough marks? Well, am going to have to think about it and if it makes sense then I will use all of the rep gear and replace the mission reward get but I will remove one of the three and just use it on a different ship; if I fly it or not as a compete set; maybe on a shuttle or a PVP craft as am slowly building one on the Kiingon. I know what I need and where am going to get it. Thinking about it, the klingon is all plasma at the moment. As I wanted the Romulan rep torp on that one. I guess I still could and use the disruptor array instead. I have no idea what PVP is like in this game but if I do do it, it will be the Klingon or Romulan. Back on track; I always keep sets as sets. I agree, just buying ships for consoles or traits is just a waste. I think I could and am working on building a ship that uses fleet (yes, you changed my mind and made me look again) using mission, rep and fleet components. I will say I have brought consoles and devices from the phoenix store. Red matter, Console - Universal - Crystalline Absorption Matrix, and the one that creates a red cloud. In the ISA last I looked it was 8K. It wasn't what I would call a good one as there was allot of moving around and chasing down the mobs or waiting on them. The highest in that match was 13k.

You don't mention diminishing returns. What about placement of weapons ,firing order?
@MCStu4 жыл бұрын
I did mention diminishing returns as it relates to resistance. There is also diminishing returns when it comes to readiness as well. I didn't want to get to into the weeds with firing order.....

I am a returning player and I am so lost. I really like Star Trek but the guides gloss over so much that I feel like I am the useless mooch. I have no issue with buying from the exchange, but maximizing output for great synergy is... ugh... Headache!! I will need to check my Eng/Sci consoles over again to see where I can improve. Quite frankly, I wish I could input my current inventory to a program and see where I am lacking.

I would recommend get in to someone like Augmented Dictator's discord. There's a ton of great people there that are more then willing to help you with anything from the basics to high end builds. We'll even do runs with people to test builds and talk about piloting...... It's an awesome STO community! discord.gg/hHWrBEWwTa

I have just re-joined Star Trek Online after a 10 year absence (not exaggerating). Is this advice still considered current?

Is this game really viable f2p or very low spender...50 to 100 buck to start with an extra little bit of something good.
@MCStu2 жыл бұрын
It is viable for free, but will require a good amount of time... I would say for the best experience sending around $45 is good, buy the Energy Credit Cap increase and grab a T6 ship....

Console version have gotten much better now! Events and new content is still released a bit later for consoles but they're definitely more stable! My one buddy only plays on his Xbox One and hardly has issues thankfully!

how limited are you if you only play 'free'
@MCStu4 жыл бұрын
Star Trek Online has in my opinion the best free to play model. There is nothing you can't get, other then a life time subscription, by just playing game. You can exchange dil for zen for the must have stuff like higher credit cap and shared bank access. You also get a tons of very good free stuff from playing the events; T6 ships, upgrade, weapons/gear..... I have a separate acct that is 100% free to play and my two characters on it are top tier. Basically it's pay to get stuff faster.

You never told us where the deuterium warp-core came from and Google is useless
@nolgroth4 жыл бұрын
Deuterium-stabilized cores are pretty common loot drops and you can craft them. I'm sure you've already figured this out, but posting in case somebody else stumbles upon the video and has the same question.

This is meant to be a very basis guide. This vid one will show you a much higher end phaser build. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zn-uo2uwgJeAb80
@Zamolxes774 жыл бұрын
Please note that while is definitely easy to get the parts for this build, you get level XII as rewards. He has level XV in his build, which is extremely difficult to achieve, costs a lot. And difference from XII to XV is ... well major. After 6 months of playing, I think I got lvl XIV's weapons and such on my main. Be prepared to grind your arse off.
