I have had a mural in every one of my homes for the last 35 years. I am now in a brand new home and on the look for the perfect mural for my new space. This time my mural is going to be in my kitchen and I have the perfect wall. Very exciting.

I've never put up a mural. Do you not get tired of it? as with paint we can change it every few years to refresh. I am just curious and wondering if I would want to do one.

I enjoyed the video as I do all of your videos! I was especially surprised to see the Victorian settee that I reupholstered show up near the end of the video as you were describing curvy furniture! Omgoodness, I almost came out of my seat! For anyone who is interested, I was commissioned to reupholster that piece for a client. She used it in her wedding a couple of years ago. It was so much work but worth every bit of time that it took to redeem that piece of history. Broken beyond what you can imagine, given a second chance to live a new life. Thank you for sharing it! ❤

I love murals! Here in New England we get to enjoy them commonly in primitive shops and antique stores. I have a thing for combining lots of patterns in my decorating. I must be doing something right because people often comment on how peaceful and cozy my rooms feel!!!

I think each person should do what makes them happy, smile, giggle and just be content. I also think it really depends on where you live too. I love farmhouse cottage decor, but I live in the desert, so I have spaces in my home that this works but not my whole house. I also have rooms that are decor specific too. I am a sparkle girl, so I have a room that I call my glitz n glam room.. . Every year colors change and someone makes up new trends.. Do what makes you the happiest.. I love your channel..

Love to hear what's trending, even though I will do what I love . I have a style that is me, that feels like home, cozy and welcoming. I may change artwork, pillows and accent colors occasionally, but the bones and furniture stay the same. The only thing I disagreed on here was... I loved the gold ornate framed picture with the printed textile. compared to the dog. I could see the dog on a plaid paper or background in a little boys room , or a masculine space.

I appreciate your thoughts and ideas. I thoroughly enjoy design and I'm currently dabbling with furnishing my tiny bungalow, with thrifted items, including the furniture. Thus being a thrifty addict, I decided to paint all my rooms (8 rooms), one paint color, including the ceilings and much to my surprise I have been delighted to see each room appears very different from the other, simply because of how much sunlight enters each room. Thrifted Vintage is my favorite style, its never boring and always fascinating to the eye.

What a great video! I grew up in a house filled with antiques and am the child of historians (my mother an academic on the Civil War and my father on the Revolutionary War as well as an historical interpreter at historic homes in VA) so never saw "contemporary" design unless I went to a friend's house. So, I have never considered myself trendy in any way (even wear predominately vintage clothes.) But, I like to hear how the world, in general, moves through this most personal of artistic endeavors - interior design. It may not be a catchy phrase but I think your house can and should be a living history museum of sorts of your life - where you've been, things you've, personal family history, etc. It's not a new idea but I think, in the past, it may have been done more to impress others (think of houses filled with items people collected on Grand Tours in the 19th century.) Now, for so many reasons, it seems people yearn for and are comfortable with their houses being a true reflection of them for their enjoyment alone, even if no one ever comes over or sees it. It's the kind of therapy we all need, perhaps. Thanks for continuing to offer these insightful and practical videos and for encouraging others to make their corner of the world a soul-fulfilling haven. :)

This is one of my favorite videos you have done. I am not one to change my decor based on trends that are here one day & gone tomorrow so you gave me hope in the fact that what I'm doing in my own home is till basically "on track". I love thrifting & shopping for antiques so I'm pleased to hear you say that there's still plenty of room for that in my decor. I wouldn't stop it anyway as it brings me such joy to find pieces that "speak to me". I've discovered I'm definitely a Traditionalist & will more than likely remain so for the duration. I love "curating" my home with those special pieces I find in thrift or antique stores. I think the hardest balance to achieve is decorating with antiques without becoming "old" or "stodgy" in your decor design. As in all things I try to achieve balance. You still need something new & fresh to feast your eyes upon, right? Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us!

A young man who uploads You Tube videos using the name of Lone Fox began this “trend” several years ago. His style combines thrifted furniture and objects, diy projects, and most definitely, the color brown. I noticed how unusual his style was because I’m a minimalist, and I do not like brown or his use of plaid on cushions. However, his honest, positive attitude captured me. He is a self-made designer, too casual in dress and too passionate and real to capture the attention of the design world. Moreover, he has influenced a generation of young people who now embrace thrifting and the diy mindset to improve the quality of their small and humble abodes, and therefore, the quality of their lives. I have immense respect for him and his audience. Credit where credit is due: the Lone Fox has influenced what are now “trends” in the industry (beyond brown and plaids.)The lesson he teaches is that style is not determined by money nor imitation, but rather by initiative, imagination and the creation of joy in our lives. Now, there’s a trend we can all afford!

The best trend in my opinion, is the trend you yourself have created. A curation of the things you love. The things that speak to your soul and bring you peace and joy. Colors, textures and materials that are authentic like metal, wood ,glass or pottery rather than cheaply made synthetics. I have found that if you use this process you are more likely to be happy and satisfied with your choices for a longer period of time. Adding or deleting an item or 2 only once in a while when you are feeling creative that blends classically with your personal style so that your not throwing off the balance of the other decor you already have.

I see some of these new trends not lasting too long. I think for the long haul some of them could look dated sooner than people think. I think it’s nice to maybe take one idea like these to freshen a space but in a smaller dose like instead of painted and adding furniture all the same color maybe just put that color in accessories of curtains or both or just paint the walls that color and live with it a while to see if you want to add more. I’ve always loved murals. As far as pillows I still enjoy them I usually have two at each end of a couch and not only do I love the look and the fact I can change the cover and it changes the look of the room but it also gives some extra support on the back and coziness. So that’s something I’ll still do I just don’t keep buying pillows just the covers that way I don’t have so many. I also don’t put pillows on anything but my sofa and a chair or two and on my bed . I’ve seen people put them in decorative boxes or baskets or on something people don’t sit on and put the box or basket under something like a bench or next to a fireplace and too me a pillow should be on something you sit on comfortably or a bed or just put it in storage. Just my opinion of course in the end it’s your home and you should make it your own. Iam also not a fan of old books or any books showing just the pages and not the binding. I don’t get this at all. I love the look of old bindings and the titles of the books it adds warmth and character to a room and it’s fun to read the titles. And I love that they are different colors again it adds warmth and remember turning to just show pages is a newer trend people didn’t do that . I recently saw a you tuber who’s book shelves were full of books and all you saw were the pages and it looked really blah . I didn’t see the point of it at all. I thought just turn them to their binding adds some warmth some color some character to your shelves. Another thing that bothered me about it was she bought such gorgeous old books and all you saw was the pages! Such a waste in my eyes. So whenever there is a new trend and I really like it I add it very sparingly I don’t fill my rooms with it that way when it’s time has come it’s not overwhelming and I keep it and blend it in to my decor so it fits in and doesn’t look like it doesn’t belong and I feel this layering of keeping what you really like and incorporating it really is what makes your house a home. I think it’s aweful how people waste so much money trying to keep up with all the newest trends and constantly are changing their decor monthly and just buying everything they think they need to have. I love what I have not tired of any of it and if I want to change it up a bit I add fresh flowers or move things from room to room or buy one small trend piece or put up different curtains and tablecloth’s things you have you can switch out. Sara always has such great ideas for not going overboard or feeling you have to change everything all the time. I love her style and how much her home feels like a real home full of love and warmth and memories.❤

I am so glad to hear that the white/grey/black color scheme is moving out the door. I thought that if I saw that color scheme one more time, I would vomit. That said, I think that those colors make excellent accent colors but should not dominate. However, that said, if you were still planning on painting your bathroom vanity or wainscotting black, that would be very attractive. Overall, I suggest people follow the rule of harmony. No matter what the furniture or the patterns or the colors, it must all balance each element and harmonize. I love the 18th century elements - so wall murals and antiques that reflect that era are awesome. I hope that people stand up for themselves and never let the Cottage Core or "Little Women" designs become unpopular. Those design styles along with the dark academia are some of the best designs to come into style in a long long time. I am not a fan of color drenching because it can feel overwhelming even claustrophobic and lacks imagination. That said, I don't just like your home, I am in love with your home - I think you did an amazing job designing your interiors. Thank you so much for your videos! PS Here's just an idea - if you have a lot of pillows and you have children or pets, make them into large floor cushions so the pulverizers and demolishers in your family can play on them instead of your furniture.

I love traditional and think cottage style is very traditional. I kinda hate modern shapes of sofas/ furniture. There is some contemporary art that I love. I don't follow trends at all, I love what everyone calls grand millennial and have since my twenties and I'm fifty two. Mostly just love the well made traditional pieces. Left the Target trend years ago. Almost everything I've ever owned has been thrifted and antiques. I bought three pieces of art last year that I really love and got them all off of facebook. There is so much to be had without going to a traditional store.

I’m struggling with finishing my home- we had it going pretty well- I’ve been collecting antiques my whole life and then there was a flood and my son and I got very ill- everything has been moved, damaged, changed around by people trying to help and I just don’t know where my vision went🤷‍♀️ out with the flood I guess. Both my parents passed away recently and we gained a lot of their items that don’t blend with mine- but I feel bad getting rid of- I’m just stuck! My mom was an artist and I just don’t know how to blend her art with mine- it’s a disaster- what do you do when this type of thing happens?

I live in a beautiful , well decorated cape in New England. I’m a purest. No fake for me! Real wood, real wood burning fireplaces, real granite, etc. None of this fake, foam imitation stuff. I believe the hallmark of traditional design is to use pure, authentic material. Fake, imitation has no place in traditional design.

To each their own! Not everyone has a home with true old authentic materials, and for them, doing the next best thing is an old look, with modern (less expensive) materials! ♥♥

I love what you stand for as a Christian & love your decor. Is it only recently that your videos are only of you/your face with a few clips here & there?. I’d much rather see decor & decorating than just you talking. No hate. Just my thoughts. ❤

.... I agree with that Comment... I stopped watching as much ,due to that particular thing... She has a Design Course, but it seems that is overtaking other areas of the " Decor and Decorating " ... I see your Comment as Constructive, and those who read " hate " into it... .may not be familiar with the Age Old Terminology of " Constructive Criticism ". The other thing is ... The " William Morris thing " .. EVERYONE is on that Bandwagon...what eventually occurs is it may no longer become affordable, and as beautiful as these Designs are, and the use of them is quite virtually unlimited...It is on almost Ev e r y Design/ Decor / Home Channels. ... which , it has become too saturated on the Channels. The " Beauty Channels " are guilty of this, as well.. touting Products so much that those become unaffordable, unavailable and actually, some get discontinued. I am watching a Design Channel, for Decor Content ...For Real Life looks that one gleans Inspiration from... Not necessarily all the " commentary " that goes on and on.

True creatives never need to see nor do they care “ what’s trending”. Professional decorators I suppose need to do that to have businesses. The moment someone says “ Pinterest” I think yep ….copying not creativity.

@@SheHoldsDearly Yes and I feel that trendsm are a "stepping stone." If you see a Pinterest photo you start imagining what that may mean in your space. You aren't necessarily changing everything, but maybe it sparks an idea. No one is an "original." Everything we own has been done by someone before.....an antique has been owned and used 100 years ago. The "creative" sees another way that the piece can be used.
