Yeah, she was sort of broke, but in the sense that her stepmother had a hold of the family finances after her father passed away. Her stepmother pretty much made her do all the housework and kind of treated her like crap.

For those wondering why Sandy from Grease isn't on this list: Sandy was never considered ugly. She was actually considered pretty, but a very sweet, nice, "wholesome" girl. She transformed, but it wasn't from ugly duckling to beautiful. The transformation was from pretty girl next door to sexy bad chick. Just to clarify the confusion.
@SRose-vp6ew2 жыл бұрын
I never got the appeal she starts to smoke, dress trashy, and dates a male wh..... Not really a happy ending unless you need to "feel good" about going bad, it's just got catchy music and the kids watching it would be wise to ignore the bad life lessons that in reality wouldn't end well.
@as3957 Жыл бұрын
@@SRose-vp6ew It makes sense that Sandy would change like that with the way she was treated, and I think she was supposed to be more confident post-makeover, but I agree that it doesn't have a good message. I think the only good thing is how Danny starts to be more genuine by the end of the movie.

They should have gone with The Devil Wears Prada instead of The Princess Diaries. The Devil Wears Prada tells about the significance of the fashion industry.
@oliviaranson89358 жыл бұрын
+Melody Clark but I think in The Devil Wears Prada it was less of a radical transformation because the "makeover" was more subtle, whereas in The Princess Diaries, there was a dedicated scene devoted to the makeover. I'm glad TDWP was at least mentioned though.

I'm going to go with Strictly Ballroom as my favorite transformation, mainly because it's very subtle, and you don't notice her transition. It's like the bloom of love just makes her lovely. It's the best.

This video basically states that you need to change who you are and wear makeup in order for anyone to like you.

I personally wouldn't have made a separate channel, but I totally get why they did it. I've seen a lot of comments complaining in their main channel when they posted more female-centric videos. WatchMojo started out with a majority male viewers because of its original content. But since they started having more female viewers, it was a good idea to make a separate channel as these videos wouldn't have been in line with the tone or theme of their original channel. And look, I'm a guy and since these topics also interest me, I subscribed to this channel as well. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work!

The "ugly duckling turned beauty queen so she can overcome everything" is one of the saddest, most degrading trope you could think of. A woman's worth isn't defined by her looks or her abilities to conform to what is considered traditionally attractive. We should really stop showing people that you have to fit into a mold to get what and where you want in life. But what else can you expect from a channel based solely on blatant sexism, right ?
@marissawilson46448 жыл бұрын
I see your point but in some cases you there are women who hide behind frumpy clothing because they don't want people to see who they are. Like Stacy from Phat Girls.
@WatchMojo8 жыл бұрын
+BansheeDust Here's an honest challenge, watch the next 10/20/50/100 clips and let's see how many video topics merit that post. The way I see it, if we do a top 10 - feminists clip, - katy perry songs - cher songs - politicians - civil rights pioneers - one direction songs - etc video, we will get one person or another complaining about it being "feminist" or "vapid airhead" etc., but taken as a whole, it is basically content that a lot of women and men find interesting and entertaining. I personally don't mind the criticism, but what I see is how 1. biased people are themselves, 2. those shouting "diversity" only value it if everyone shares their perspective, 3. those who found WM to be of interest can't seem to get over the fact that a lot of women (and some men) don't find the WM content all that interesting and have, for years, begged us for more variety... and our "crime" here was thinking that if we just published the odd/token clip it would not be enough, so we took the time and energy to launch a whole new channel/brand etc to create the same kind of environment out of respect... but, still we get emails like yours. Bottom line, even those who didn't like the new channel admitted that yes, men and women do have different interests...
