Yes, I was wanting it to be on this list, but was disappointed because I always thought it should be number 1. I'm glad someone else still has some sense.
@Dan_Chiron4 жыл бұрын
That's because Nanny McPhee doesn't go through a makeover. The message of the movie is that the family see her differently because they've learned to understand and appreciate her; she doesn't change, people around her does.
@jacklow96114 жыл бұрын
@@Dan_Chiron: So she doesn't go through a makeover like all the others in the video. The title says "TRANSFORMATION", not 'makeover', and going strictly by the title, none of the girls in this video went through a transformation. I know what the message of the movie was, but in the movie, Nanny McPhee went through the transformations as the family learned all the lessons.

I feel like I’m the only one here saying this, but I always adored these moments as a girl. I didn’t see these women as ugly ducklings transforming into swans. I saw these women given the opportunity to become the women they wanted to be seen as to the world. Women with strength and confidence even when they stumble. They were loved as they were before and they didn’t change after the makeover. Like the women in my life have told me growing up, “You can’t be beautiful on the outside without first being beautiful on the inside.”

@@debh6304 Wow, well I love having wavy hair. Straight hair is boring, and besides people used to pay a lot cash to get a perm [ ie fake curls ], you should be proud of your hair and that you don't have to fake it. It's not a good message to say, natural curls are ugly. Was Andie McDowell ugly in Groundhog Day or Four Weddings when she had her natural curls, before she used a straighter? Curly hair can be very pretty if its styled well, this also applies to men with curls too.
@2killnspray93 жыл бұрын
@@jane1975 Yeah. I have very curly hair almost kinky. The thing is it gets easily dry and also I'm white with an almost afro type hair. It's rare. People use to say that its weird especially for a white guy. I thinking of having a perm or idk what. I want to try to make the curls more defined and little bit more smooth. Hair leave-in makes my hair shrink to much, and still to "compact" and when I get to explosed to sun for (example) or rain etc it breaks the effect. It's difficult hearing all of what people say "you should cut" "you should straighten" etc even in your own family. And yeah for the last one it's crazy ! I think these movies have a much deeper message about gender, specifically femininity and masculinity, rather than ugliness and beauty. If you notice, most of the women presented dress, act and overall look masculine before and then change into an ideal of femininity. These movies are really telling women to stay super feminine because if they drift away from this standard they will be viewed as ugly.
@tosca85713 жыл бұрын
Exactly. In "She's all that", "The Breakfast Club" and "The Princess Diaries", an arty / alternative-thinking person is turned into a preppie girl and that is supposed to be more attractive, because it looks less threatening. I liked "Miss Congeniality" but there is no way that giving her an aggressive personality and making her snort would ever make Sandra Bullock less than gorgeous. Also, what bugs me about these things is that once applied, the contact lenses and makeup NEVER again come off - even in bed or in the shower. Anyone who wears contact lenses knows you cannot wear them all the time without endangering your eyesight.

“Ugly Duckling Stories” are sooo overrated. Everyone is beautiful the way they are, even a pimple face. Why am I surprised that these shallow beauty propaganda movies still exist? Edit: Just tell me you’re doing on purpose. I had a fight with my shallow mother this morning because she doesn’t agree with my way of beauty. She calls me ugly because I hate wearing makeup and dresses.
@d-13814 жыл бұрын
they exist because censoring isn't any better and there is no point in complaining about movies that were made years ago. and there are people who do like them. :)

Because there are always individuals that haven't come into their own yet. Usually these stories are about realizing exactly what you just said... that we're all beautiful and that we are our best selves when we're true to ourselves. Those messages are always there in these movies.

One y'all missed was Grease. Towards the end of that movie where Sandy asks Frenchy and her friends to give her a complete makeover because she was in love with Danny and at the same time she wanted to be as cool as he was.

That one doesn't really fit though. She went from beautiful and innocent to beautiful and trashy. This was showing the transformation from plain to beautiful.

Being given more expensive clothes isn't really the same as an "ugly duckling transformation." I wouldn't count most of this.

Marisa Ventura - Jennifer Lopez (Maid in Manhattan) Samantha 'Sam' Montgomery - Hilary Duff (A Cinderella Story) Cinderella - Ilene Woods (Cinderella) Danielle de Barbarac - Drew Barrymore (Ever After) Gracie Hart - Sandra Bullock (Miss Congeniality) Andy Sachs - Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada) Mia Thermopolis (The Princess Diaries)

I loved *Ever After* so much. Any time they do these female empowerment countdowns, I always wonder why Danielle isn't listed. I always think about the end when the Prince comes to "save" her and she's already coming out of the house. He tells her he's there to save her and she's like, "I already saved myself." 🤣😂🤣 There's something beautiful about that because it takes away the helpless damsel in distress trope and allows her to enter their lives together as an equal. 🤗
@mortimerbrewster36713 жыл бұрын
@@dr.braxygilkeycruises1460 "it takes away the helpless damsel in distress trope and allows her to enter their lives together as an equal" and manages to do it without man bashing or misandry. Back when movies knew how to show strong women without belittling men.

I love that you had my fair Lady at second place. Eliza Doolittle is gorgeous and her makeover does not only means clothing. Her makeover is more the accurate use of English language. That's why I would vote for her to be number one and Mia on second.

My favorite will always be Adrian from Rocky. It shows just what confidence can do. Her whole life she was told she was ugly until someone finally looked past her awkwardness and told her she had always been beautiful. She is like my favorite character ever written.

I agree with most picks but for me the one not only missing but hands down the best one was Muriel in Muriel's Wedding. And it is a meaningful transformation because it was not someone conforming to society's standards of beauty but almost the reverse. It was a film about embarrassing your individuality and becoming confident because of that. Muriel truly blooms and transforms throughout the film in the true sense of the word.

As a bully victim I can tell you that changing my look made absolutely no difference whatsoever to the bullies in my school. It's as if they couldn't even see the difference. I lost the glasses, lost weight, cleared up my skin and they still treated me exactly the same.

My favorite is a league of their own. This movie is about according to a socialite character in the movie"a group of young women being plucked from farms across America to see which one could be more masculine." Because they were athletes playing baseball in the 40s. So the guy who ran the league had a group of beauty pageant women come in to give every woman in the league a makeover which gave us classic lines like "The eyelashes let's thin and separate try to remember ladies there are supposed to be 2 of them. "Color her hair so people can tell this twin is the girl" And my personal what do suggest for this woman, "A lot of night games".
