Top 10 Unobtainable Mounts

Over the course of WoW’s history there has been a gigantic amount of mounts added into the game. A decent chunk of these mounts would be made unavailable to players and are presumably never to be readded with most cases. Blizzard has been known to add content that is very much “If you didn’t play during this time you don’t get the rewards” so it incentivizes people to play more frequently. In this video we’re going to be going over the rarest unobtainable mounts in the game. The only rule is that if it can still be acquired in the Black Market Auction House then it will not be included on this list, even though its original method to obtain it was removed.

imo the Undercity Plaguebat from the burning of Teldrassil patch is one of the coolest mounts in the game, with the added bonus of it being unobtainable

Cool to see a list like this, I didn't even know how rare or unobtainable some of these are, which I have. Also wanted to point out that Recruit-A-Friend worked a bit different in the beginning, only needing one friend to make another account and buy one month of playtime. It was particularly easier because Blizzard also launched those bundles for a relatively low price where you had Classic, TBC and I think Lich King in it. All you had to do then is to pay for one month and it would be sent to you. I did this with a friend twice, one time for me and one for him. I got the X-53 Rocket and he got Heart of the Nightwing. We also wanted them to be able to transport our friends around if they made a new character and needed somewhere to go. And those were the only flying mounts at the time which would hold more than just the player, the only other ones were groundbound like the mammoth mounts in WotLK. I might misremember but I think the Sandstonedrake came later with Cataclysm.

I would have put the Phoenix mounts from the MoP dungeon achievements where you had to get gold in all of the MoP dungeons. Was the 1st introduction of Mythic timed runs as we know them today.

Season of Discovery now added the original Epic mounts, that were only available for the first few months of Vanilla when it release, after they were updated with the current models. I only ever saw 1 play on the human epic mounts

Was about to say this as well. I remember the NE had the mounts without the armor. The black mount had a purple carpet harness and that was it. Are you able to collect those on BF accounts. I just got back to playing the game. I had a few of the mounts on here listed like the Zebra and the Ram.

It used to be a very rare mount I think since I never saw anyone riding it, but I was very bummed to find out that everyone has it now. They were probably more rare than any of the recruit a friend mounts given the requirements to obtain them.

I got the original Brewfest mount back in the day. So worth the effort sense getting that ride quest's timing just right was hard. A mount thats rare only because a lot of people didnt like the quest was the Neather Ray mounts released in Burning Crusade. The bombing quest you had to do, for some reason, most people I knew, hated it. So I was the only person in my guild and among my friends who got it and it was rare, at the time, to see someone else on it.

Incorrect, the Black Qiraji Battle Tank isn't the only legendary mount. The Lingering Echo of Tarecgosa they added in 10.1 is also a legendary mount.

@@DZombieDragon You have to do the Blue dragon questline with Senegos, and it adds a bit to the quest chain if you have the achieve. It is added as a transmog to your dragon riding mount, and is then usable by all your characters.

​@@DZombieDragonIt is not a mog/transcript for dragonriding. It is it's own normal flying mount and is added to your mount collection tab like any other mount. In this sense it is BoA, however, in order to mount it you must have completed the questline, which requires the character to have completed the staff. It will appear like a mount of the opposing faction if it's learned on the account but the character your on hasn't completed the quest (will be high-lited in red). Only shaman, druids, mages, priests, warlocks, and evokers can unlock the ability to use the mount as they are the only ones that can complete the staff. So really, it's not unlocked account wide, just on the character.

I recruited myself to get heart of the nightwing- dont regret it at all. It’s a great looking mount and it comes in handy a LOT when playing with my buddy. I also have the primal flamesaber- i love HOTS, i wish Blizzard would try to breathe life back into it. Maybe another run of the promotion? I’d love to see more unobtainable mounts come to the trading post. Actually, it might be a good way to reintroduce the original unarmoured swift mounts back into the game.

Funny enough, I started doing AOTC when the mounts first started. Only missed out on the War Wolf by a day, but got every other one since then with the exception of the ones from Shadowlands and Dragonflight. Also tried to get the Jigglesworth mount, but fell at the last hurdle. I was just a couple raids away from getting it, but we just couldn’t crack them before the final reset when it was removed.

I wish you had included the TOGC 25 immortal run mounts. even looking at classic, it is still very difficult to obtain and few players have it compared to the war bear which most players in classic had.

Great video! just a correction on the PvP mount section: gladiator and rank 1 are and have never been the same thing. Gladiator, until BFA s1, was the top 0.5% rated players, like you said, but this is not rank 1: you'd only receive the mount and the "Gladiator" title, that used to last for the entire next season with the old system and then it would go away when the season ended. Now it lasts for all of the current season with the new system, and it goes away with the offseason. The mounts are permanent, unlike the Gladiator title. Rank 1 though is when you finish at or above the top 0.1% rated players, and you receive the "*name of season* Gladiator" title, which is a permanent title (For example: Crimson Gladiator was the rank 1 title for DF S1). This still works like that to this day. For some context, this title is called rank 1 because there was another system before the "top 0.1%" one, where only the very rank 1 team in the whole ladder of each Battlegroup would get the achievement and title, meaning that sometimes a team wouldnt get rank 1 at 2900 rating because someone in their battlegroup was higher than them, but another team at 2600 would get rank 1 because nobody else in their battlegroup was higher. This created very popular Battlegroups where the competition was the best, like BG9 in NA, but also created a very bad habit for players to transfer to dead battlegroups just to get free easier rank 1 titles. This whole system was scraped and revamped to the current 0.1% one with the removal of Battlegroups. Nowadays its not exactly rank 1, but people still call it that way because of the og system.

I have the number 10, 9 and 8 mounts, and also the Heart of Nightwing Recruit a Friend mount, so it is nice to see that I have some unobtainable things and some people used to whisp me when I used them at bgs or just leveling an alt, I say that cause I don't play WoW anymore, but if I remeber well, they also gave achievements for having them. But the Qiraji mount is truly the real achievement here. I saw only ONCE a player showing it and I already knew how hard was to get it. I think I will never see a person using it again.

Funny that the undercity bat and the nelf hippogryph weren't called out yet both are removed from the game. They aren't an AoTC mount but they did come from a limited time event that was run at the end of the legion expac. The War of Thorns event where players did quest events in Darkshore. I am also pretty sure that the event was gated so that the player had to do it in a certain way at a certain time in order to get the mounts.

Swift Horde Wolf (or alliace War Horse version) from clearing heroic Trial of the grand crusader without anyone in the raid dying.. Has to be one of the rarer one, even back then very few people were able to do that.

a honorable mention should have been the Naxx Protodrakes aswell. Like the Zul'Aman bear Blizzard removed the achievement when Ulduar was released, because it would be too easy to obtain them. But the Ulduar mounts are still in the game even after the release of TOGC, ICC or every other addon after that

I have quite a few of these myself. I really wouldn't mind if there was a way for people to obtain them in game. Trade post or gold sink. Don't matter. I honestly don't like the idea of unobtainable things. Keeping it sacred for a few expansions is fine, but we should be able to collect everything the game has to offer.

I opened the AQ gates on my server back in early 06 and what a cluster fuck that was. I rarely use the mount anymore since flying is the name of the game, but ill bring it out while leveling each expansion. During the BC beta, they actually gave it a flying mode that was the same model as a quest mob in Zangamarsh but reverted it before launch.

I'm pretty sure the ahead of the curve was for mythic levels of the raids. I killed Garrosh on heroic when SoO was current, and I don't have it, I did get the heroic version of his heirloom axe though

Ahead of the Curve is for heroic raids, and Cutting Edge is for mythic raids. Character achievements have the date obtained on them, so if you have the correct achievement with an early enough date, you can send Blizzard Customer Service an in-game ticket and ask them to look into your case.

Only thing to correct. The gladiators mount required you to be good in arena. Not pvp. Arena is a completely different type of pvp from the rest. Often gladiator ranked players couldn't do much w/o their team or voice.

Black Qiraji got a small boost in prevalence when BC and LK prepatches crashed servers so hard that the gates got reset. Happened for BC and a few people got their new ones, we expected it for LK and organised some groups on the off chance the servers would get destroyed and a few hundred more black qiraji got created.

I hope they never add another mount like the Qiraji Battle Tank. Making dozens of people pour THAT much time into a task for only one person to get something. Let's face it, if they did the only players who would get it would be streamers and people with a lot of in game influence. I am more than willing to put the time and effort into getting a PVP or AotC mount but that is on a while other level.

I’ve got the Warlord’s Deathwheel, and I think it’s absurd that any Alliance player can just buy the Champion’s Treadblade even now but that Horde players who never got the Deathwheel can’t get it. Just put a vendor in Orgrimmar who sells it for 100k and call it good.

The deathknight level restriction was still there when I tried to make a dk on wrath classic

They re added it these days cause surprise surprise, botters having free level 55 boosts was great for them too
