Your videos are really informative and have more depth than other russian language lessons on youtube. One suggestion, it would really help if you could put some text with phonetic pronunciations of the words. It is difficult to know if one is pronouncing a word with all the exact phonemes/elements.

Иметь is to have something abstract. If you want to say "I have a suitcase" you say У меня есть чемодан. A suitcase is something not abstract. For иметь, you use it like "to have the right" or "to have the opportunity" and so on.

for most of these words, I heard you pronounce the ending with a kinda ch sound. In the first set of verbs, I heard to drink, sound like the English word peach. And the fifth word sounded to me like gava-reach. In the word to eat, however, I didn't hear it end with a ch sound; I heard it as ye-est and ending with more of a T sound. Is it because the lower case b letter is next to the T that makes it sound like ch, and there are just some exceptions like in the word to eat?
@BeFluentinRussian
@BeFluentinRussian 6 жыл бұрын
ТЬ will sound very close to "CH" sound. But the reason is that Т gets softened by a soft sign at the end. For learners it's hard to produce that softening. It's just simply unnatural. Check this video out- kzbin.info/www/bejne/nonVgYOugZ5rack
@frenchimp
@frenchimp 2 жыл бұрын
There is a ch sound in Russian, it is written using the letter ч (and it is soft). The soft t sound written ть at the end of words sometimes sounds a bit like t followed by a very short s sound, but this is a result of softness (the tongue being close to the palate, which produces friction). It is essential to learn to distinguish soft and hard consonants in Russian, and ть should not be confused with ч (ch) or ц (ts) , the latter having a more clearly pronounced s component (hard).
