Speaking of the Nintendo GameCube, there were some fighting games for it and there was an arcade stick for it. Plus, the GameCube was compatible with the Game Boy Player add-on that would allow you to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games on your TV via the Nintendo GameCube.

It's a real shame they were forced to use a Low rom and could not use a High rom. For those that don't know. A High Rom was able to take full advantage of the CPU speed where as the Low Rom was effectively missing approximately 1 megahertz of computational 'power'. I believe it was cheaper to use Low Rom over High Rom

Just to be different Im going to place my vote on the Amiga version, just because it's a bit rare and not well known :-) Nah, seriously though, it's not a bad version. Looks better than the Saturn, PSX and N64 versions (higher resolution and better anti aliasing). They're all pretty good though, but my favorite is probably the PSX version soley for the controls, which just "feel" a bit more responsive than the other versions to me. It really is splitting hairs though.

It basically is the dreamcast 2.0. They both ran on a microsoft os. And the xbox controller looks heavily inspired by the dreamcast controller. And both came with built in online functionality. I'd love to hear about how you were able to procure foreign games and systems in the 90's. I had no idea many of them even existed being so young until I was older and found a local game store the did imports. It's a cool nostalgic subject to talk about.
@SegaLordX5 жыл бұрын
My fascination with imports mostly started from the back of magazines like EGM and Game Pro. Once I got my 1st job, I began importing titles for my Genesis, and it grew from there. Everything was telephone orders then. Companies offered COD(collect on delivery) to pay for them. It was the wild west of game collecting though, and you often paid a lot to get games that weren't always worth it. Sometimes I walked straight into games with heavy Japanese options menus and stories that were damn near unplayable.

Good shot on the topic, enjoyable and authentic to watch. For me also Stuff re-evaluates over the years. The N64 would rank higher without the smearing filter applied. (S-video into retrotink 2x), but like the GC with must play exclusive titles. Early 3D textures didn´t aged well, in that case the N64 is blessed with limited game size and sparsely use of textures, relying on shading effects. In return a gamer from late 90´s might not understand the value of pixelart today.

SEGA and Sonic are like a home to me, and I do tend to get homesick when I play another franchise outside of Sonic. In addition, I have every home platform SEGA released in the United States (even the Pico) in addition to several platforms SEGA platforms released in Japan (again, even the Pico), but I also have a lot of Nintendo and PlayStation systems. There's no denying those systems are a lot of fun. I have the PS2, PS3, PSP, PS4, and even the PSVR. The Switch is a system I can't go a day without playing (I LOVE playing Sonic Forces on that), Sonic is the reason why I own a GameCube (I have all seven Sonic titles for it), and the Nintendo 64 has a lot of fun titles that you can't go wrong with. I even have the rare and sought-after 64DD, not surprisingly having gotten that for the F-Zero X Expansion Kit, but I also have a few other games for it such as some Mario Artist titles. I also have the Hori Mini Pad for the N64, which I heard is the best controller for that system. Getting one and checking it out make me agree with those opinions. So although I'm glad you love SEGA like I do, it's nice to show some non-SEGA stuff to have a little more variety in what you have to show us. So there's no question making this video was a fantastically good move on your part.

The 3DO deserved more time and attention from developers. I was looking forward to the M2.

It was rumored that games like Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Metal Gear Solid; heck, even FF7 were going to be be 3DO exclusives before moving to PS1. If had the system sold better worldwide that is.

Love your channel. You and Game Sack are two of my favorite retro and modern video game channels.

Just curious, I assume you're not a big handheld gamer but do you consider that side of gaming seperate from these lists? I'd consider the gba and ds right up there with the greats personally, especially as someone still looking for retro experiences and huge jrpgs during their eras.

I always try and keep portables and consoles a separate topic. I very much enjoyed portable gaming growing up, though. If I mixed in portables, the Game Boy would have been in the top 10 for sure.

@@SegaLordX Makes sense. I'm sure it'd be way too tough to think of a top 10 without narrowing the list down a bit.

Back in the day I was this >< close to trading in a bunch of stuff to get a PlayStation (1) with a shiny copy of Samurai Shodown 3. For the most part I was content with having a Saturn and a N64 that complimented each other really well. I didn't really have access to the import market back then, not that I really knew much of its existence to even go looking for it. Despite really hankering for some Samurai Shodown on reflection I was giving up way too much to get hold of SS3. A little later on I discovered that the PlayStation version of Samurai Shodown 3 is not regarded all that highly... most people say avoid... and on top of that I modded my Saturn with some switches to enable import play on top of getting Samurai Shodown 3 and 4. So bullet dodged there. I have always wanted a Nintendo console to compliment what ever my main gaming platform is. Be it a console or PC. Nintendo often makes decisions with their console development that means they often get companies making some games just for their console that won't really work anywhere else. Mode 7 is an example of this. On top of these exclusives, you also have Nintendo developed games that obviously are not going to find themselves anywhere else either. In my opinion. Every gaming set up has room for the current Nintendo platform. I'm not elitest and going to suggest someone isn't a proper gamer without a Nintendo console. Each to their own. It doesn't take much to justify getting one to me though. Anyone that wants to call themselves a gamer is a gamer. No conditions required to be met, we are all having fun here. Now let's kick back, chill, and have fun!

Plus unlike Sony, Nintendo and Sega were(and still are) pure video game companies that made their own systems complimenting one another. Whereas Sony was strictly a tech based company, not a pure video game company.
